Harry’s already mentioned this back in the subway episode, but here in Ireland a court ruled that Subway can’t call it’s bread Bread. Too much sugar therefore it’s considered cake XD
Subway is also one of those places, at least in the US, where location and the person making it factor in huge. There used to be two locations in my town, one literally gave me 4 spinach leaves when I asked for spinach once and everything tasted of nothing but bread.

Its funny how whilst Joe was let down, he doesn't like Subway so nothing big but it was funny Harry was more let down, he generally disliked US subway... but then again, he equally isn't big on subway.
19:35 As someone unfortunate enough to have to work there for a year, I can confirm that's exactly how they did it. Pick a bag of (probably stale because they were kept on top of the warm meatball cabinet) Doritos, chuck a spoonful of sauce (I think it was marinara sauce from the meatballs), a pitiful handful of grated cheese (you got a stern talking to if you used too much), and chuck it in the microwave for a minute. I don't know why they didn't use the industrial toasters. To this day it baffles me that anyone would pay for that torture in a box.
Where I live in NH there are 12 Subways close by. Most owned by the same owner and all are terrible. I used to spend a lot of time traveling locally in my job and ate at most of the 12 at some point. If you like a Lettuce Sub, then these places cant be beat. All cold cuts and cheeses were of the see thru variety. I stopped wasting my money and found all the decent mom'n pop sub shops to be vastly superior. I did stop at a Subway 1 time up in a teeny tiny beautiful town in Maine. I was hungry and my options were limited to Dunkin's or Subway. I got a 6" Italian. Just the standard 6" sub with oil and vinegar. I was shocked. It was packed with meat and cheese. Loaded. At that point I hadn't been in a subway in years. A few weeks later I thought I would try 1 of the local shops close to my home. Same story as before, see thru meat and cheese. I haven't been back in a Subway in over 8 years.
When did you record the UK portion of this? UK stores now stock Coca-Cola products instead of Pepsi and raspberry cheesecake cookies are also back (we had them until a few years ago but they are now back).
Pepsi must have done something to piss Subway off. I know a few years ago, Subway in the US also use to have Pepsi products and I was disappointed when they switched over to Coke.
they probably filmed it when joe went to the uk to film those videos they did there. just like stuff with harry was likely filmed when he went to america to try american foods
Yeah, the Coke machine at my local store in the UK was really disappointing. The Pepsi machine was a touchscreen with plenty of options (two or three kinds of Pepsi, 7up, Tango orange and Tango apple I think, Lipton peach iced tea, and a Robinson's juice). The Coke machine was the old style and only had four choices. And there was no ice machine 😮
Canadian Subways also have the Subway Series and *EVERY* one of them is different from the USA and UK versions. Only one's any good: the "Stampede Brisket". But it's $20!!! The new footlong cookies are pretty good too
1:20 huh, I also sometimes get the meatball sub with pickles. BUt i don't go to subway that often, as there is a jersey mikes that is closer to me, and they're pretty great.
What gets on my arse about UK subway is that the Chicken Piziola isn't on the menu anymore as a standard sub. If the people that work there remember them they will do you one but its classed as a create your own and costs more.
Substandard and never substantial. Not only does their product suck but in the US their franchises have a reputation for paying employees cash under the table, evading taxes. I had two friends who went to buy cars and because they had zero documented income from Subway (but loads of cash), they were denied car loans and had to buy junk cars for cash.
According to my own experience, UK Subway is much fatter than Finnish Subway. In Finland, I'm used to the fact that here they put a lot of vegetables and a little sauce and a little cheese.

The Series subs are largely a way to trick you into paying for more add-ons (e.g. double cheese, pepperoni on a meatball sub, bacon, etc.). Even though they say double cheese, I don’t think they’ve ever given me more than on a classic sub. And I think they got rid of the classic Italian to only have the Series option.
This episode confirmed to me why I never go to subway and I do like my fast food. Its just the two times ive been (in the Uk) and orderd a sandwich, there was a weird chemical like taste, i think it was a meatball sub or something like that. Hard to describe but it felt so basically unnatural for a sandwich. Id rather make one at home.
