I really appreciate your viewpoint. You have a lot of solid points. The best part: the recommendation that we go out and learn about things of the world that will shape us into better journalists. Golden advice, right there.
It's shocking how true this is. My buddy is a cop...and he did get a degree in Criminal Justice. But he regretted it when he found out he really didn't need it. He loves history so he would probably have preferred a major in history. It would have made his schooling more interesting.
This video seems its come from a place of disappointment and frustration. Great points on how global networking and communicating with people to broaden our view is where the value is. - Not a classroom.
I have just finished a bachelor's degree in Social Anthropology, but next to studies I have worked in a student TV for 3 years and I am now working as an editor in the student TV. I am really not sure what to do next. My dream is working in media, but what master's should I do? Do I continue with a social anthropology master's, or something else? I just know I want to work in media, but it is hard to know what to next.
I’m following a very similar path to yours and I’m wondering what did you end up choosing as a masters? Also how hard/easy was it to get into the media field form a social sciences degree?
That is why I'm here. I want to know how to become one. Cause I want to know why the media is so twisted and toxic these days please I need to know why the world is this twisted
Build a portfolio. Write blogs, write anything you can. Show it to people, let your writing speak for you. I'm a high school dropout and I'm freelance and have worked for a magazine
Isn't that an advantage of the American system of schooling with Majors and Minors. Like, you can major in Journalism, but have minors in subjects such as Political Sciences or even History. By doing that, wouldn't you have this more "open" perspective that you're on about?
TravellingEevee you don’t have to pursue a minor, many people don’t in america. At most colleges it isn’t even on your degree but instead in your transcript,
@@quasimoto5656 Right, thanks for the info. I'm European and applying to a Canadian university where a minor is obligatory, so I supposed it was the same.

I disagree... and I feel like this is kind of misleading. Just because you are a journalism, does not mean they are dumb about the things happening in the world! How rude considering there are many passionate about journalism at these schools.
Hi my name is Julio im from Peru and study law ,but i would like to move to the US to work as a journalist or a writer in the media. Is it hard to find job first cause im immigrant ? Second cause i don't study the degree ? Its hard to find job ? Nice video. Greets
I disagree they are certain terminologies and processes you go through depending on what you are trying to get out to your audience. Yes, anyone can report news and do certain things that have to do with journalism but if we really want to be technical about certain things, you’d realize you’re lost and behind those who actually have a degree in journalism. My opinion. For you to think some people aren’t even smart makes you not smart at all. You sound so complacent; not cute.
Except that Tucker Carlson and Ben Shapiro are *not* journalists...and the lack of respect for learning the principles and history of journalism is why people like this have become rich and have their own shows...because you don't hold them to proper journalistic standards.
Dont do it waste of time got to move to god knows nowhere for little pay and you be hoping all over the place know plenty of professionals that were in major markets just simply quit and do something not even related to the field be a youtuber even if your not successful enjoy it

Great anecdote, and thanks for watching!
This is really cool! I want to write about performance art, so I’m doing a major in Musical theatre with a minor in journalism and media studies
This video seems its come from a place of disappointment and frustration. Great points on how global networking and communicating with people to broaden our view is where the value is. - Not a classroom.
Very interesting I want to become a newspaper journalist nice video tank thank you for this great information about journalism. 👍🏻
Lol no newspaper will hire you, you have to make your own newspaper

How do I break in to the industry when the degree I finish isn’t related at all with journalism
Just get as much experience as possible and make connections.

I was thinking of either doing History or journalism. I think I'll do History after watching this
A history degree is a horrible degree as well (without a minimum of Masters, preferably PhD)
When he called ben shapiro a journalist I knew there were gonna be some bad takes
Ben shapiro is a good journalist
Maybe not a journalist but he is very predominant in media so....🤷🏽♀️
@She Wolf I'd say the same about your astounding intellect but then we'd both be wrong
