Check out all the cool new kits and tools we'll be reviewing on hpiguys Workshop.
    See you at the bench!
A scale model is most generally a physical representation of an object that maintains accurate relationships between all important aspects of the model, although absolute values of the original properties need not be preserved. This enables it to demonstrate some behavior or property of the original object without examining the original object itself. The most familiar scale models represent the physical appearance of an object in miniature, but there are many other kinds.
Scale models are used in many fields including engineering, architecture, film making, military command, salesmanship, and hobby model building. While each field may use a scale model for a different purpose, all scale models are based on the same principles and must meet the same general requirements to be functional. The detail requirements vary depending on the needs of the modeler.
To be a true scale model, all relevant aspects must be accurately modeled, such as material properties, so the model's interaction with the outside world is reliably related to the original object's interaction with the real world.
Revell is a manufacturer of plastic scale models. The original American Revell merged with Monogram. In 2007, American Revell was purchased by Hobbico while the European Revell Germany separated from the American company in 2006 until Hobbico purchased it as well - bringing the two back together again under the same company umbrella. In 2017, Quantum Capital Partners took over operations of Revell after Hobbico declared bankruptcy.
Aluminum Model Toys, commonly abbreviated as AMT, was a Troy, Michigan-based company that manufactured various pre-assembled plastic promotional models starting in 1948, when attorney West Gallogly, Sr. started it as a side business. Later, a variety of kits became very popular. Most of the company's vehicle products were American cars and trucks in 1:25 scale. In the 1970s, hot rods, customs, trucks and movie and TV vehicles were also produced.
Because Gallogly had solid connections with Ford Motor Company, he was able to place his first models exclusively in Ford dealerships, starting a long promotional relationship (Cawthon 2002). Gallogly's first model was a 1947-1948 Ford Fordor sedan made of cast aluminum and painted with official Ford paint (Cawthon 2002). After issuing successful Ford sedan models, the company set up shop on Eight Mile Road outside Detroit (Chrysler 2008).
In 1949, injection plastic molding became available. After the first Ford aluminum promotional model was offered (Doty 2008, 89), aluminum was abandoned. Different colors of plastic could now be used, so the company name was quietly changed to AMT, which deemphasized the word "aluminum" (Cawthon 2002). For example, AMT's 1949 and 1950 Ford and Plymouth sedans were its first plastic models, along with the 1950 Studebaker coupe. These promos often had wind-up motors which could not be seen through the shiny silver-tinted windows. They had metal chassis and diecast metal chrome-plated bumpers, which were later replaced with chrome-plated plastic. Often, official factory paint colors were applied to the models. The company's first commercial products were pre-assembled plastic promotional models, which were only available through automobile dealerships,
In the early 1950s day-to-day operations of the company were turned over to George Toteff so that Gallogly could better attend to his law firm (Cawthon 2002). Model design was kept in-house, but molding was outsourced. Continental Plastics in Fraser, Michigan, was one of the companies contracted to mold AMT's models (Cawthon 2002).
Model Products Corporation, usually known by its acronym, MPC, was an American manufacturer of plastic scale model kits and pre-assembled promotional models popular in the 1960s and 1970s. Traditionally a Michigan company, since 2011 the MPC name has been part of Round 2 LLC of South Bend, Indiana. MPC's main competition was Aluminum Model Toys (AMT) and Jo-Han Models.

Really nice stuff. Hopefully, I'm wrong about the F&F car, but normally, this type of company starts doing what they do, saying they have issues with something and the delivery is slowed down, then at one point they just stop sending stuff altogether and your model is never finished. As I said, I hope I'm wrong on that.
REALLY love the RC model kits. I'd do the Army VW as a post apoc/Mad Max vehicle personally.
The Amoeba kit is super weird but super cool.
Dunno if the Troublemaker truck is a real drag truck, but I guess it must be harder to get in it than in other dragster since it open in the opposite direction. Wondering if that '57 Chevy is the Ed Roth's model that Monogram/Revell did. I had a friend that was an experienced modeler who called it the unbuildable kit. And that guy's attitude on model kit building was similar to yours.
That Batmobile seems to be the Revell one that they did in '95! Built it back in the days, but I had to part it as it got damaged with time and wasn't really fixable. I will try to get it (but so much kits, so little money!)! That Marauder seems to also be really cool and again, money chimes to tell me I don't have much of it! lol Really wants the Dodge truck too! Styrene is a such a harsh mistress! lol

@25:12 The Jungle Jim Funny Car. Can't wait for your review of this kit. I did purchase it and so far my only concern is the "fit" of the wheels and tires. The rears are extremely tight and the fronts are too loose. Want to see your remedy. Thanks for your videos!!

    • @randytaylor1258
      @randytaylor1258 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The rears: Try heating the tires in hot tap-water so they stretch, then mount the wheels. If the fronts actually touch the rims, wash the tires in warm soapy water then super-glue them to the rim. You don't want cut the tire to shorten it unless nothing else works.
Shame that kit doesn't come with a figure of Jungle Pam. 😀

It would be interesting to kitbash the MPC 1/16th scale Firebird kit with the previously reissued AMT 1/25th scale Big Rig Turbine Engine. It should just about fit with a bit of fiddling; though the opening in the hood will need to be filled. Also, the 1/2500th scale USS Enterprise kit that comes with the 1/48th scale AMT F-104 Starfighter (from the "Tomorrow is Yesterday" set) would look pretty cool if displayed with the (1,000,000/1 scale?) I would like to give my opinion of the 1/16th scale 79 Firebird as a 40 year model builder....I am finishing one up now and it is awful....the doors didn't fit without major modifications and do not open as they should....the hood scoop sits back about a 1/2" too far on the carb, there for didn't line up with the opening in the hood (which is a very poor fit)...had to glue it off center on the carb....the instructions have you glue the front spindles on upside down, now the front end sits higher than the back...so anyone building the kit.....glue the spindles on the opposite way the instructions say and it should look good...on a good note, the engine bay is really nice and detailed along with the chassis and the body fit is good along with the front and rear "bumpers". Also, the interior is really nice and everything there fit as it should....I would give the kit a 5 out of 10.

I truly enjoy your videos and I am looking forward to your build of the ‘57 Bel Air. I am working on one now. I built that model as a Revell kit In the 1970s.

Hi Chris, Do you know if any drag racing model kits are going to be released this year. I was channel surfing and noticed that model king/mobieus is releasing some nhra pro stocks of billy the kid dodge demon, bill bagwell plymouth duster and dodge demon among others. Do you have any idea of a release dates? Thanks

Wow, that’s a lot of kits. Glad to see we can get kits still from the Ukraine. I ordered one about a month ago, in a day it was shipped, don’t know if it’s gotten out of the Ukraine though. Thanks for sharing Chris! Happy days and model on! 😎

I think alot of these companies that make the cool 1/35 scale cars and trucks should also release them in 1/24 or 1/25 scale. They would sell like crazy!

I had the Troublemaker in '71 or '72. Monogram put it out it was molded in red and had blue/white decals. I'll get son of but I may do different decals. A year or two later I also had a '57 Chevy by Revell that had opening doors hood and trunk, was molded in hot pink and had decals that I think went on the back side windows and said Strawberry Fields so I'll have to get that again too different color this time though. Love the single axle version of the WW2 2 1/2 ton truck. I wish the US Mail truck came out before the Hostess truck. Oh well.

Yes, Troublemaker is a fun kit to build Kenny, I thought about doing different decals on the new one too.
