Spectral Souls is my BABY! in psp since I was highschool. Man! this game is really challenging overall hard core grinding rpg game. I remember I having hard time to obtained Lightning Guard, Chaos Sword, Meteor Tenma and other rare items just to finish this game. If you want a challenging game to the point that you will not belong to the mediocre level players, this game will gonna be your highly recommended for sure.
what people dont get about blazing souls, is that you can get a gameover/brick save file in the first 30 minutes if you mess up your exploration points XD. you spend all and cant get them back without doing jobs, which dont unlock until the mission after the first exploration. if you fail to find the maps you just are stuck. I wish that feature was removed from the game, as the true/god endings really require you to precisely get every map at the right times, and get to a certain depth of certain maps at certain time triggers, spend X amount of turns in some fights, and even lose X character in a certain fight in order to activate. 10 years ago we had it mapped out and played it so much we could easily do it, but I dont remember crap now XD
For those interested in Lord of arcana it had a upgraded version Lord of Apocalypse the game runs smoother it has two new weapons new quests and magics sadly it never got out of Japan but a hero (without cape) is developing a english patch currently is available a patch with 20% translated, mostly weapons and items.I recommend that you're selves patch the room, because the patched rom that you will find in any download site will get stuck on the second chapter the solutions for this will be playing the Japanese version past the second chapter, don't load English save files in the Japanese version if they're not past the second chapter this will trigger the error. Sorry for the long testament 😉 PS. I'm playing it on my modded ps3 it's a ton of playing it on a big screen.
Just found your channel the other day -- love it! Great work on these videos. And thanks for the reminder that I still need to track down a copy of ZHP. I own a copy of everything on the list besides that one. Looking forward to seeing more!
That's interesting. I only played it on GBA, and I abandoned it about half-way through the campaign when I realised that I had screwed myself and could only repair my mistake with a total campaign restart. That one haunts me, because it really was an astonishingly high quality game. Maybe the PSP version could be my redemption arc?
"Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time goes borderline psycko on some mission requirementes", hell yeah. The Akiel fight... dammit, I will never forget that one. Not only do you have to be incredibly fast to beat him, you have to be very tough to manage to resist the ordeal. Still, one of my absolute favorite TRPGs ever. With a story to enjoy over, and over, and over again, more so with all the potential "word choices" Crevanille can tell everyone to ally or alienate them (Leona's are my favorites, the answers to her question of "What is a surgery"... pure gold).
Came here for growlanser 4, last 2016 I quit this game because of Akiel, 2023 I replay it from the start and really enjoy the story more and get better on using stones and ring. Just today I beat Akiel using saves states from emulator and trial and error of different combination of stones. Brutally difficult game but so rewarding. Hope theres is a remake that the difficulty can be change to easy mode to enjoy it. This game is so good and highly recommended to play on emulator
then you suck, that game is easy. there are one or two very specific instances that make things hard but the game over all is very easy compared to those games on the video. hell, every final fantasy game is easy
spectral souls was always one of my favorite psp jrpgs alongside yggdra union and wild arms fx (dont judge me. that game's great if you stick long enough and get used to it) as they were all very challenging games with good story that was enjoyable. They all had incredibly hard and rewarding challenges... at least until milanor turns to a monster in yggdra, you gain access to levin in fx, and your character learns accelerate in spectral at which point anything and everything turns into a punching bag.
I actually always play Ys series in Nightmare or the Hardest possible difficulty available. So fun and many deaths. Oh yeah tips for both Spectral and Blazing Souls, it is best to pump vit and agi to 50 at the start, vit increases hp gain from level ups and agi affects dodge, hit and turn speed. Only pump Str(Melee) and Int(Magic) by 50-60 after those then pump Vit to 75 and Agi 100 then Str/Int continously by end game for Neverland and Simba endings. True end and the other ending involving the 3rd group should have Vit 90-95, Agi 120-105 and the rest Str/Int endgame. Post-game which is only available after the latyer two's end requires Vit 100(pumped via Party Point the earliest you get character) and should have a minimum of Vit 150, Agi 200, Str/Int 150-200 by end game. Stick to 5 Melees and 2 Mages too.
Those games are crazy grindfests. I love them but no wonder they were never successful; people like to grind, but most people don't like to grind THAT much.
@@ErickLandonRPG The longest grinding JPRG I find should be disgaea series as all characters can be leveled to 999 and also reincarnated for ... I can't remember how many time but I roughly remember total level for 1 character is around 36400 levels in total and you can have hundreds of characters. Not to mention there is the item dungeon where you dive into the item world and level the weapon as well.
Yeah, specially Blazing Souls where the thresholds are higher. What I mean by thresholds are the minimum Stat Needed to gain advantage, IE Spectrals Souls needs 200 Agi to outturn every enemy but Blazing Souls needed 600 Agi. It also includes the fact that Heals and Buffs only gives 20-30exp even when combining a lot of them meaning you need to beat up a Level 100 to level. Blazing Souls also has no level cap unlike Specratal Souls that cap at 999. The other part that makes it even more grindfest is the equipment, the player has to manually upgrade weapon, armor to become stronger, weapons are notoriously needed for skill unlocking and registering them to be available in shop doesn't refund a fraction of the cost. Blazing Souls even added Clays, sacrficing Lv5 Equipment for equipable boosts ranging to Stats which max at 99 and Attack, Defense, Hp, Magic and Resist which max at 999.
Hey i know you didn't enjoy Valhalla knights but I'm playing it like 75% fast forward after I grinded a bit and gathered a few more party members. It definitely is clunky and the camera is horrendous, glitchy, almost made me quit but I'm really enjoying the game. Taking advantage of the support/attack/ranged attack system really comes in handy now that I have a healer/mage a thief which I'm honestly not entirely sure if I built her right cause she died really fast and has like no damage but the as long as we cover the healer the dungeons aren't so bad. And the lock on system kinda works but like I said I kinda fast forward as I'm playing and it's not as bad. My fighter is all str so I'm not dying as much and the loot isn't bad. In game I clocked in around 4ish hours in 2 irl hours which I could see how this game would definitely be a pain to play at regular speed.my biggest suggestion would be to get a healer first as a partner. But I'm really loving this game. It does get a bit tedious but once I fought that giant in the old prison I felt a bit excited especially since we survived those goblins hoards. You really have to keep the enemies off the healer though cause they can get stun lock and then everything goes to shit. Like every fight I've noticed the enemies rush my healer. My second fighter will be a tank and like yeah you gotta use a bit of imagination too. But for real thanks man, I would have never found this gem if it was for you. Sucks you didn't like it but this is Definitely something I've been looking for.

@RUBY DA CHERRY It's the tedium in micromanagement I'm calling awful game design not micromanagement itself. And yes, I've heard of and played RTS games, and they don't exactly appeal to people who like JRPGs so I'm not sure where you're getting at. Managing a nation and its army is different than managing each individual unit in menus with awful navigation listening to the same bgm and sfx repeatedly for hours and then rinse and repeat every few battles.
I love being on menus micromanaging things, and hate RTS wich imo is an awful and worst kind of game genre, people who like RTS probably have a screwlose in their Head
Yggdra union, Knights in the nightmare and Gungnir are my worst fear and the three of them made by Sting. Everyone says these are hard, and yeah, i really love JRPG's im not a casual but i tried these games and i got my ass beated up
I beat it! You can do it man. My pro-est tip is to GET THE GOOD HEALING SPELLBOOKS. If you do that, and get some beefy tanks who can long range, you got it
I didn't had difficult moving foward on Yggdra, however I still got stuck when a enemy higher up sets some sort of trap to capture Yggdra. Couldn't figure out what to do...
It like the game ar developed to be a hot topic in circle to findout how they can beat it as fast/efficient as possible. But now, when you play without friend to disscuss it someway different
I love Ys The Oath in Felghana! When I was starting to get into RPGs after getting a PSP, it was one of the RPGs I enjoyed playing the most. Maybe it's because most of the games I've played before I got into RPGs were mostly fast-paced action platformers....
I’m still a little sore at Yggdra Union for owning me on GBA, but I hear there are some minor quality of life tweaks in the PSP version, so it may be how I take it on for revenge!
Takman Klan Killa 187 I wish I could remember exactly but I think it allows you to speed up battle animations or something?? I’m having trouble recalling what it was exactly some reviewer pointed out, but it made me say “hey, that WOULD be less annoying!”, whatever it was
@@kanagawa85 Main one is you regain health on leveling up. This is huge. Second one is you can speed up battles. Doesn’t make it easier, but more fun to play.
Dude love your reactions for every game.... Hahahaha... Anyways because of this videos, I thank you coz I found most challenging games in the history....love it... 😊😊😊
PSP is wonderful, so many great JRPGs! I just wish they still sold them at Gamestop...but Gamestop loves to stop the games... I will have to go to a Disk Replay soon to brows the PSP selection
Thats Ys one that u showed I think its the one I'm playing on my Vita. I got really into it but I'm in this part that I didn't allow other saves and just keep dying hey....so spewing! I might even try replaying it from the start...in 2 years!!!!
so that´s why I could never get far in Yggdra Union, I thought I was just an idiot but turns out the game is actually hard, that´s actually good to know
Heavily disagree on Lord of Arcana. I know that the general consensus was that Bahamut is a difficulty spike boss, but I just didn't see it that way back in the day. Any form of "grinding" in the game is not going to help anywhere near as much as taking the time to learn the boss movesets and how to deal with them. The game had a plethora of other legitimate issues, but the gameplay and control responsiveness was top notch and was the only reason I sunk as many hours into it as I did.
I already beated spectral souls 2 on good ending not best T_T While already beated blazing souls on all endings. I think you need a new segment like your opinion on games that we mention... What is your opinion on Brigandine, Super Robot Wars and Front Mission 3?
All already know all Front Missions (from first to five) are MASTERPIECE, super robot taisen i think all last games just too east(switch version), all early taisen games give challenge, Brigandine another very good game
I still have nightmares of my PSP crashing while playing the last dungeon bonus dungeon of Z.H.P and losing my entire god tier gear... guess I should have made a backup save file first.
When i played YS for PSP...... man! that game look easy and cute... but is hard!!! for the Vita the exact same experience. The game starts normal but from 0 to 100 in one second you begin to feel the pain.
Hmm tactics was not to Hard. But first time i played it i got pissed on THAT boss Who destroyed me haha. I even had to restart the game. I only say Cid :)
hardest wild arms i ever play are 2 and 3 and wild arms alter code f remake of wild arms 1 all this 100 IQ puzzle and boss super hard to beat make you triggered but wild arms 4 very easy to play why puzzle very easy solve and boss easy to beat to even any body can finish it, wild arms 5 are average puzzle but little hard solve but boss make you triggered if you not grind your level and not with best equipment you will lose, wild arms xf always grind your all jobs skill and grind your level make easy beat all boss
I always feel like such a bad a** when he brings up “Y’s: Oath in Felghana”, my first game in the series and one that I loved and beat easily! (Yet “Y’s 8” gave me issues cause I couldn’t find anything and barely made progress!

Dragoneer's Aria hard? I would say the difficulty is slightly above average, let's score it 6/10. All you have to do is go back and fight more enemies to level up, that's it. I wouldn't call it hard. Also I love this game :) My favourite game on PSP.
I'm actually surprised to see growlanser iv here, am i the weird one for thinking it was easy? Also i think drag Aria is more on the "uninteresting" side rather than hard
No need to grind on spectral souls or blazing souls. The learning curve is up there and there are difficulty spikes, but you just got to know what you're doing and you'll be fine.
@@Ophelia26s there's nothing wrong with your english. Your grammar and the way the comma was used was ok. The period at the end is nothing to about. Grammar nazis are a minority here and you were easily understood.
Mana Khemia, while not that challenging until lategame, has a really bad change on the PSP version compared to the PS2 original. The last sidequest has you fight three of the same monster on the PSP instead of one like in the PS2.
Spectral Souls 2 is not that hard (for story mode) if you use characters with Accelerate. Wild Arms XF, I got bored because it feels too easy. It has many jobs but I think only grappler job is good.
Like YS oh boy first time playing those games... their are macabre at some point.. cos in the begining they seem normal games.. and in a glimpse the difficulty goes to insane levels... and ..... WTF??? This is the real game.. not the first missions

Yggdra union, Knights in the nightmare and Gungnir are my worst fear and the three of them made by Sting. Everyone says these are hard, and yeah, i really love JRPG's im not a casual but i tried these games and i got my ass beated up
After watching KBash's videos on the Dept. Heaven series I'm surprised you put Gungnir and Yggdra, but only mentioned Knights in the Nightmare
Gungnir is pretty challenging.I still needs to finish the game
What's good bro
I beat it! You can do it man. My pro-est tip is to GET THE GOOD HEALING SPELLBOOKS. If you do that, and get some beefy tanks who can long range, you got it
@@demetriuspowell29 what up fam
@@TimBitten thx man.I'll try to finish it after i beat the princess crown on psp
3:59 yes, that Game gets tougher as you progress, but if you die & restart the Enemies become Weak & easier to beat
I didn't had difficult moving foward on Yggdra, however I still got stuck when a enemy higher up sets some sort of trap to capture Yggdra. Couldn't figure out what to do...
Yggdra is infamous for getting players stuck without a guide, I should have mentioned that.
@@ErickLandonRPG
You know how to take the enemy capital? I exhausted my cards just killing the dragon knight squad and killing the mage on the cannon
Is there any PS1 or PSP game that you can build your own stats for your character?
It like the game ar developed to be a hot topic in circle to findout how they can beat it as fast/efficient as possible. But now, when you play without friend to disscuss it someway different
I love Ys The Oath in Felghana! When I was starting to get into RPGs after getting a PSP, it was one of the RPGs I enjoyed playing the most. Maybe it's because most of the games I've played before I got into RPGs were mostly fast-paced action platformers....
i always love wild arms series, ive finished them all except the xf because it's tactics but idk i think i am gonna try it again
I’m still a little sore at Yggdra Union for owning me on GBA, but I hear there are some minor quality of life tweaks in the PSP version, so it may be how I take it on for revenge!
What's the difference btw GBA and PSP version???
Takman Klan Killa 187 I wish I could remember exactly but I think it allows you to speed up battle animations or something?? I’m having trouble recalling what it was exactly some reviewer pointed out, but it made me say “hey, that WOULD be less annoying!”, whatever it was
@@TimBitten 👌
@@TimBitten
Your hp gets restored if you lv up
@@kanagawa85 Main one is you regain health on leveling up. This is huge. Second one is you can speed up battles. Doesn’t make it easier, but more fun to play.
Dude love your reactions for every game.... Hahahaha...
Anyways because of this videos, I thank you coz I found most challenging games in the history....love it... 😊😊😊
Unlimited Saga for PS2. I don't even know if the game was hard or not because I never understood its mechanics.
SMT 4 is my first SMT game and I can't beat a Medusa boss. Any idea how to beat her?
PSP is wonderful, so many great JRPGs! I just wish they still sold them at Gamestop...but Gamestop loves to stop the games... I will have to go to a Disk Replay soon to brows the PSP selection
Luka Music True... you can barely find PS Vita games at Gamestop nowadays and it's a newer console lol
I still see a lot of PSP games for sale in most game stores here in Canada...
which track have you chosen for the intro?
Thats Ys one that u showed I think its the one I'm playing on my Vita. I got really into it but I'm in this part that I didn't allow other saves and just keep dying hey....so spewing! I might even try replaying it from the start...in 2 years!!!!
so that´s why I could never get far in Yggdra Union, I thought I was just an idiot but turns out the game is actually hard, that´s actually good to know
Played the hard mode on YS after learning the boss pattern and grinding more than I need.
What game is the character in the thumbnail from?
Spectral Souls.
I remember my the time when I played yggdra union. Gulcasa one-shots my Yggdra by landing a critical blow. Very balance indeed
0:47 what game is that ?
I really like your enthusiasm haha
I already beated spectral souls 2 on good ending not best T_T
While already beated blazing souls on all endings.
0:15 I can feel all the self-hatred in that "Jesus"
I still have nightmares of my PSP crashing while playing the last dungeon bonus dungeon of Z.H.P and losing my entire god tier gear... guess I should have made a backup save file first.
When i played YS for PSP...... man! that game look easy and cute... but is hard!!! for the Vita the exact same experience. The game starts normal but from 0 to 100 in one second you begin to feel the pain.
What are the games in his intro I only know Neir: Automata
i find trails in the sky fc and sc the hardest especially on nightmare mode
also arianrhod's helmet in trails of zero is hard
Yggdra Union was OK, not as hard as Final Fantasy Tactic, I had fun stealing all bosses weapon and punch them to death
I found Tactics on the PSP way easier than Yggdra. See? We all have opinions :)
Hmm tactics was not to Hard.
But first time i played it i got pissed on THAT boss Who destroyed me haha. I even had to restart the game. I only say Cid :)
@@ErickLandonRPG Yeah i find Tactic doesnt really hard as Yggdra. Its all matter of taste
So how many RPGs do you play at the same time
A lot, my friend.
I'm looking forward to your next release on this list but that should definitely include Dark Souls and Sekiro...Right? ^_^
You mean a PS4 list...?
Part 2?! Cant wait!
Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time broke my R1 button in my PSP.
As soon he said stay away from Dragoneer's Aria I cried in purchased from retro store
hardest wild arms i ever play are 2 and 3 and wild arms alter code f remake of wild arms 1 all this 100 IQ puzzle and boss super hard to beat make you triggered but wild arms 4 very easy to play why puzzle very easy solve and boss easy to beat to even any body can finish it, wild arms 5 are average puzzle but little hard solve but boss make you triggered if you not grind your level and not with best equipment you will lose, wild arms xf always grind your all jobs skill and grind your level make easy beat all boss
As soon as I saw ys oath in felgana I knew I wasn't weak its solo hard not to mention Valhalla Knight which always make me sleep.. crazy tooo hard
I always feel like such a bad a** when he brings up “Y’s: Oath in Felghana”, my first game in the series and one that I loved and beat easily! (Yet “Y’s 8” gave me issues cause I couldn’t find anything and barely made progress!
Yeah, wild arms xf was hard. Never expected it. I agree what you said about the game.
I love Growlanser. It was the cat girl that carried me through it.
dude..are u already play unchained blades..i want to know ur opinion cuz for me tht game not too hard..juz need to grinding to clear dungeon..storyline quite good too..but im sad cuz the sequel not release in NA..so i cannot play because dont understand japanese..haha..sorry for bad my english😢😢..
What about Hoshigami game? that was kinda hard
That wasn't on the PSP, dude.
@@ErickLandonRPG sorry, forgot about that lol. but u can put it on your hardest JRPG handheld ones or Nintendo handheld rpg lists lol
Check out the hardest JRPGs PS1 video I made.
Top 10 Hardest JRPs Nintendo DS Ever
That's gonna take a while, but you bet your ass I'll do it! ;D
growlancer was the last RPG on psp that i played.. after that i stop playin RPG and keep playing NBA2k13 for 5 years..
Dragoneer's Aria hard? I would say the difficulty is slightly above average, let's score it 6/10. All you have to do is go back and fight more enemies to level up, that's it. I wouldn't call it hard. Also I love this game :) My favourite game on PSP.
You need to do that the entire game. But anyway, maybe it's so bad it's hard, haha.
Have you played hoshigami ruining blue earth for the ps1? That game is a living hell 😂
I have. I put it there on my hardest PS1 JRPGs video.
@@ErickLandonRPG I have the ds version but have not played it yet.
for hard tactical rpgs I like to overgrind coz I hate restarting the long ass battles lmao. I feel like I waste less time that way.
I rarely grind on strategy RPGs unless I really have to. Yeah, I had to on all Idea Factory RPGs. hahaha.
You categorizing are off though, mostly you post here are Srpg (strategy) and Action rpg even though they still considered jrpg.
Great video
For me it's phantom brave, so many times I had to grind just to be destroyed in the next level more than anything the ice levels
Probably a game that I'll include in part 2, haha.
Still haven't finish that game
Gungnir graphics art is the same of Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone.
Edit : oh yeah it's the same company the same publisher.
I'm actually surprised to see growlanser iv here, am i the weird one for thinking it was easy? Also i think drag Aria is more on the "uninteresting" side rather than hard
It's so horrible it's hard, hahahaha.
> complains about Lord of Arcana's Agni
You're complaining about the FIRST BOSSS? And you think he's more annoying than that Chicken Horse at 6:16?
No need to grind on spectral souls or blazing souls. The learning curve is up there and there are difficulty spikes, but you just got to know what you're doing and you'll be fine.
I swear I've seen the thumbnail somewhere. I can't remember. Help.
Well, the character is from spectral souls
@@Ophelia26s thank you for refreshing my memory, kind stranger.
@@mementomori502 WOW, seriously i did not think you would make a reply hahaha (sorry for my horrible english)
@@Ophelia26s there's nothing wrong with your english. Your grammar and the way the comma was used was ok. The period at the end is nothing to about. Grammar nazis are a minority here and you were easily understood.
Yggdra Union is easy.... until you meet gulcasa and pick necromancer instead witch.
Yeah, first 5-6 hours of the game are pretty darn easy but then difficulty spikes aaaaaalll the way.
Gungnir is my favorite tactics rpg
Ys series is still the best for me especially Ys 7 is the best one. Unless I use the hacked cheats, I couldn't clear this game
Ive played half the games on this list omfg.
Mana Khemia, while not that challenging until lategame, has a really bad change on the PSP version compared to the PS2 original. The last sidequest has you fight three of the same monster on the PSP instead of one like in the PS2.
Yeah, that's a really hard one, though I mostly played the PS2 version.
That teacher beat the shit out of me and never managed to defeat her.
10:40 This looks like Jagged Aliancce2.
Spectral Souls 2 is not that hard (for story mode) if you use characters with Accelerate. Wild Arms XF, I got bored because it feels too easy. It has many jobs but I think only grappler job is good.
Very nice term for video. Realy. BUT please... 202 is here already but video qulity of gameplay is sooooo horrible.
I knew Valhalla Knights had a lunatic dificulty XD
Like YS oh boy first time playing those games... their are macabre at some point.. cos in the begining they seem normal games.. and in a glimpse the difficulty goes to insane levels... and ..... WTF??? This is the real game.. not the first missions
They weren't the hardest if you keep trying to farm some stats, master yourself, etc; nothing is impossible to beat the hardest.
Probably the first tag force
I think the hardest game of all time for me was natural doctrine.
I did finish it but Boy it was hard.
Lol, it is a pretty brutal game. Will probably be highlighted in my PS3/PS Vita/PS4 hardest JRPGs videos if I ever make them, of course.
Lord of Arcana so ez pal, you just need Gunspear and Thunder Ultimate. Snipe and spam them like hell.
I've started Ys Oath in Felghana 2 days ago,and picked normal difficulty, wish me luck. 😂😂
It isn't that hard, just grind a little. But I heard that the original was a nightmare.
Both are a nightmare. It's just Felghana has an easy and a very easy mode.
I played it on easy, I could have finished on normal without big problems, but I didn't want to have it to difficult, not after 1,2 and Origins. And 6 was just pure hell.
@@Lamasis2 I finished Ys I and started Ys II both on normal and got stuck on ice level in second, they just kill me too fast, then i decided to start Oath just to see how it looks and plays, bit i am gonna continue second these days.
@@joeoe99 If you die to fast just grind, and I don't mean that you are bad, you have to, and don't go to the next area until you have bought all the equipment.
Good list.
Thanks!
Hardest psp game is always: Any Dept heaven games but playing blind
Spectral force actually is not that hard once you know the tricks, but it is true that it was a grindfest...
I agree with the others though...
You mean Spectral SOULS? I agree but spending hours and hours of grinding is precisely what makes it hard.
@@ErickLandonRPG Yeah, spectral souls. Once you put more in agi status, everything will be easier. But it still needs a lot of grinding. So all and all, I agree with you...
Great videos by the way...
