How's it going neighbors This is Ed here with etrailer.com and we're taking a look at the Flint Hill Goods steel cargo basket on our 2024 Toyota RAV4. Now, adding a cargo basket to the back of your RAV4 is gonna help solve an issue that I'm sure you're aware of as a RAV4 owner, having limited cargo space. And that's something that's kind of common in the crossover, smaller SUV type vehicles. This is gonna let you get those bigger, bulkier items on the road with you for your adventure. So items like this tote that I have here, just in our studio or generators, coolers, bigger things that'll basically take over the inside of your vehicle. Cool thing with this loaded up, my tote is about as high up as you can go and still access your hatch.
And let's see, just so you can get a visual on that, I'm gonna open it up and you can see that that's going to give you some pretty good clearance and that from the floor of the carrier, that's right about 14 and a quarter inch. So that's gonna be the tallest you can stack up without losing access to your hedge, I mean your hatch. So if you wanted to go taller, you absolutely could, as long as you're within the capacity of 500 pounds, you just at that point, you're gonna start blocking things on the back of your vehicle. So let's take a look at the carrier itself real quick and we can see that it's constructed out of steel and it's coated, it has the powder coating on it. The powder coating is gonna help it hold up against the abuse of just rocks and road debris when it lives its life on the back of a vehicle.
As far as having good tie down points, you have these welded spots here where you can tie down your bungee cords or ratchet straps or whatever you use to secure your load. And you're gonna have these three little single posts here to stabilize the bottom. It's actually a really solid construction and these guys hold up for quite a while. As far as safety, you're gonna have additional reflectors on the rear to increase your visibility, so people can notice this on the back of your vehicle and notice that you have this additional item. So let's grab our tape measure and get some measurements to see what we're adding to the back of the vehicle.
So overall, we're adding about 21 and a half inches from the bumper. It goes in right at your hitch height, so you don't really lose any ground clearance. You're right at about 10 inches. You want to be cautious going up those steep inclines and driveways. Overall, I mean it's still something that you would consider, once you load this guy down, it may affect how high your carrier is.
So that 10 inches may be give or take. Now as far as the carrier on its own loaded up at the maximum height where you can still hold the hatch, it will block your driver's side backup sensors. So just be aware that that's gonna affect the functionality of that. However, blinkers, license plate, backup cam, all that stuff's wide open. Now alternatively, I would suggest going with aluminum carrier just due to the fact that aluminum is rust proof, whereas steel overtime will always rust. But if you are looking towards just a little steel carrier to give you some additional space, this is super solid and if you just hit it with some rust resistant spray paint, you can get a very long life out of it. So again, this is Ed here with etrailer.com taking a look at the Flint Hill Goods steel cargo carrier on our 2024 Toyota RAV4.
