Hi, my '99 XKR remained on SORN after the winter break because of Covid restrictions. There was little point in taxing it because I couldn't go anywhere!
It's taxed now because I couldn't stand not using it before it goes for extensive body work over the winter.
    A very informative video, thanks.

Graham, did something similar with mine. Did the cam chains etc over the initial lockdown then was thinking of leaving off the road this year. But couldn’t resist having some fun and driving it once the restrictions where eased. Hope all goes we with your winter refurb. Thanks for the comment regards Damian

@@ODRModurol not Geeky at all, pure gold these videos are. I have a beautiful 2000 xkr and have just fallen in love with the line! As a mechanic I would love to hear a video on the the infamous P1260 boogeyman (immobilizer) /Ford PATS pitfalls and solutions. NICE job Damian!!! Hard to believe that my '04 is 1 of only less than 1100 such cars produced that year worldwide!! Even harder to believe is how such a car this good and this good looking can be THIS rare and yet still sell literally for nickels on the dollar! Just don't get it!

Andork, they are a bargain at the moment but prices will rise. They aren’t particularly reliable or cheap to run but most cars are greasing sorted. I think when we are left with only the fixed and reliable cars prices will sky rocket like the e-type. I hope so anyway😉. Thanks for the comment regards Damian

I don’t think some of your info is correct. I live in Canada and have a 2000 XK8 convertible. It has various indicators all over the car that say Jaguar Canada and I know they’re from the factory and not replacement. But on your chart you say that no XK8’s were exported to Canada in that year?

    • @ODRModurol

Rhys, The data is the data available and we know its neither thorough or very precise. Its just what we can get for the current examination and summary of the records held. Quite expect there to be errors and omissions. Canadian cars are interesting because i believe they came with an engine heater? Does your have this option. Thanks for the comment regards Damian

It's interesting, my XKR (VIN is SAJJ...27823) was sold in Japan. I have the dealer info on the VIN and it says the MY is 1998, sold in Japan on 9/13/99. The agent who sold it to me called a 2000 model which sort of works given Jaguar called the year starting from the last quarter of the previous year. The engine number says it was made in 1998 (28/4/98 at 9:37am to be precise - I learned that from you) which I'm pretty sure makes it a AJ26S. Anyway, there's a few other XK8/R's that have come into New Zealand fairly recently (from Japan I think, can't tell) but the VINs I've seen for them are SAJK (strangely?). I'm wondering if my car was the lonely '1' your table shows for Japan in 2000 (assuming some sort of timing mis-match) or maybe the ROW total you show for 1999 (447) includes Japan? Anyway, I'm intrigued. Thanks Damian. It's been a well used car but still looks the biscuit!

Bernard, The XKR's where launched as MY1998. Might want to take a look at the model years video to spot the differences. See you've watched the engine video so you should be able to identify the engine AJ26 or AJ27. You've certainly got a rare car for New Zealand. Thanks for the support and comments regards Damian

John, Thank you for your kind words and support. Unfortunately, its not easy to link the exports to VIN numbers. The public records are only summaries as show in the video. The VIN records are held by Jaguar Heritage and they don't currently share that level of information publicly. I have requested to access X100 records to study this sort of thing. They said I would have to pay them to study the records for a fee. Not sure in the individual VIN records/build details hold the export destination anyway. Sorry cannot be more helpful, regards Damian

I think in 10 years time they will be worth at least £20k but might be even higher, to be honest I'm surprised they are as cheap as they are now. I picked up my 03 XKR for £9k but a comparable Aston of the time is double that easily plus some change.

Kuddlesworth, the car was better and more popular than the AML offerings. Its the brand history, 007 etc, that’s driving the price and not it’s capabilities. Classic car values, supply, demand and history aren’t always logical. The xk8 was probably to good and popular. Thanks for the input and comment regards Damian
