  • Part two of my 2023 Falmouth trip. A GP14 and 2 wayfarers basked in the sunshine on largely flat calm waters, so nothing exciting but it is a snapshot of what to expect and where to sail close to Falmouth town. Members of Chew valley Lake Sailing Club were hosted by the Royal Cornwall Yacht club, somewhat of a tradition now, and this is my second year attending.

So nice to sail, albeit vicariously, with Skismo. Thank you for taking us along, and we look forward to the next one. Fair winds, from a rainy Japan.

Thank you, and you’re very welcome, I’m glad you liked the video. Having a fair share of rain on the Norfolk Broads at the moment too! 🥴

Lovely gentle sail again. Your comment about the insurance was useful for reference. Does it apply to tying up somewhere for lunch on a dock or is it just for keeping the boat overnight on a dinghy dock? I ask this because my insurance says dinghy has to be kep in a compound when at base.

Hi Rory, it is common for dinghy insurance companies to assume your boat will not be kept afloat in the hours of darkness. I found out when it came to renewing my insurance that I wasn’t covered if my boat was afloat overnight. The insurance company I had been with for many years refused to amend my policy to account for this. I spoke with a rep from craftinsure about my needs and for an additional £30 ( ish, if I remember correctly) they were able to add into the policy that I would be covered if my boat was damaged while afloat ( and moored ) overnight. I think it also stated for a maximum number of consecutive nights, without re-reading the policy I’d have to say that I might have just invented that bit 🤷‍♂️ ( it’s an age thing ). Anyway, the point is, for the week in Falmouth and for the week I’m currently in ( I’m boat camping on the Norfolk Broads) I can rest assured that my boat is insured while afloat overnight. 😊 So it’s definitely worth investigating with your insurance provider.
