  • Kara Chutney For Idli & Dosa

    Intro:
    Kaara chutney is a recipe you can find on many hotel menus. It’s often served with dosa and idli and while being easy to make it’s very flavourful and tasty.
    Ingredients:
    1 tsp fennel seeds
    3 med onions chopped
    2 small tomatoes chopped
    10 garlic cloves
    6-7 dry red chillies
    1 inch piece of fresh ginger
    1 handful grated coconut
    and salt to taste
    Ingredients to season:
    1/4 tsp mustard
    1/2 tsp urad dhal
    2 dry red chillies
    a sprig of curry leaves
    Method:
    1. Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan and add fennel seeds, chopped onion, garlic cloves, ginger, dry red chillies, chopped tomatoes & grated coconut . Saute well until onion turns translucent and tomatoes softens. Turn off stove. Allow it to cool down.
    2. Transfer the above sauteed ingredients and salt into a mixie jar and grind into a fine paste.
    3. Heat a spoon of oil in a kadai and crackle 1/4 tsp mustard and add 1/2 tsp urad dhal and let it turn golden. Turn off the flame. Then add 2 whole dry red chillies and a few curry leaves. Add this seasoning on top of the Kaara Chutney.
    Delicious Kaara Chutney is ready to serve. This chutney is the best combination for Idli & Dosa.
