    Real Sociedad are doing pretty well in La Liga this year. They’re currently 3rd in the table, and I’ve really enjoyed watching them. That’s partly because of their unique tactical setup, which uses a pure number 10, something we don’t see too often anymore.
    So in this video I give an overview of the tactics deployed by coach Imanol Alguacil, and how La Real use one of the best number 10s in the game, David Silva, to make the system work. Enjoy!
    I’d like to do more of this style of video, so let me know what other teams/players I should cover!

      The number 10 was replaced by more versatile midfielders. They usually don't press and leave you handicapped when defending. Teams prefer more balance nowadays.

    To add to this analysis, the 4-4-2 diamond system tends to provide width in the form of a fullback going all the way and one of the two CF(usually the fastest) going wide the other. In fact, many Argentinian teams from back in the late 90's and 2000's had some variation of this. One of the forward was a classic 9(tall, strong, good heading) and the other was fast and mobile creating width on both sides, while on of the fullbacks attacked the space. Argentina even used this system back in the World Cup 2006(Riquelme the 10, Tevez/Saviola/Messi the fast forward, Crespo/Cruz the number 9 and Sorin the fullback) and Copa America 2007 and, poorly executed, in South Africa 2010. I wonder how Real does it though.

      Do a TH-cam search: "343 and 352 formations explained " theres some great content out there about it.
      Im my summed up opinion these 5 at the back systems are defensive / counter attack focused, with quick transitiom from defemce to attack and are made to stectch the pitch as wide as possible. Using the wingnacks as the main source of creativity to drive up the pitch and support the front 3. While the midfield double pivot and 3 cemtre backs stay behind to cover. And keep the ball movog when in position
      They priorize keeping a solid defensive shape in their own half, conceading possesion in order to capatalize on coimter attacks.
      However 343/352 systems can sometimes also be very effective when playing with more possetion / more attacking dominance. Depending on the players

    The game has changed drastically and Some Managers often prefer balance in the game than relying on one player to do the chance creation. It affected so many baller’s like Dybala, Ozil, Rodriguez and Coutinho. Players like Bernardo Silva, Kevin De bruyne, Bruno Fernandes adapted to the game and can play the classic no 10 role, which requires more intensity and team effort than personal play.

    I for one have been in awe of this style for years, I find it's common with Spanish teams expressed with variations of the 442.
    However if I were to utilize it I'd do it with a different formation that favors width, at least barely, 4321 maybe. I'm also glad you highlighted Sociedad I feel they've been a great team amongst other teams like Betis(my club) & Rayo Vallecano.
    Teams I'd like you to touch on are Betis, Freiburg, Union, Vallecano and a coach I'd like you to do video on would be Jose Bardolas what PL team would suit him, I for one though will recommend him for Atleti once Simeone departs.

    • @charlief7785
      @charlief7785 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't see it now as Xavi is bringing back the classic Barca style of having two wingers on the side. In 2018/19 season Messi sort of played as a number 10 although not in the 4-4-2 diamond, and he almost took Barca to the treble had his defenders not been horrible that season. He is far more offensive and threatening as a goalscorer than Silva which is why Xavi may want him further up ahead though. In a way Messi's ridiculous goalscoring ability sort of prevented coaches from using him in this role as it seems a bit wasteful not to take advantage of his scoring prowess.
      Also I don't see Xavi using a 4-3-1-2(or 4-4-2 diamond) as Barca players don't seem to fit the mold for that role. One element that seems missing in this analysis is that usually this system, largely used in South America for a long time, is that it usually has fullbacks attacking the space and providing width that way. Usually one of the fullbacks attacks one side while one of the center forwards gets wide on the other side, especially if the number 9 has great heading capabilities.

    I kinda get this to a degree. But there is still plenty of players today with that same classic 10 skill set.
    They just evolved into more well rounded players, with athletisism and work rate, to suit the more demanding modern game. Even the greatest 10's sometimes have dips in form.
    And if they arent creating at a high rate, they immediately become a huge burden on the team. The same is happening with the classic penalty box poacher, who lacks mobility. No room for pasengers in the game anymore

      Leicester City's James Maddison is also a good example of a classic CAM / Number 10. His stats for chance creation is insane, he scores, he assists and is almost always have a direct involment im thier goals. And Leicester look toothles without him.
      Maddison would shine and produce insane stats in a bigger club who have prolific strikers and wimgers.
      He should be worh at most 50mil. But bloody "English tax" puts him at 75mil.
      I guess the scarecity of CAMS contributes to their inflated price too.
      Hence why teams are more focused on buying creative wingers instead. There are far more creative wingers than CAMs, so they tend to be cheaper.

    most young prospects are not technical enough to play 10 that's why the position is "unviable" in modern football, reality is that there are no more number 10s among the youngsters so managers can't create teams around that position

    • @jacekkaplon200
      @jacekkaplon200 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That’s not true, there is a reason why you saw existing 10s like James, Ozil, Isco phased out and players like KDB needing to take more defensive responsibility. Managers want to defend as a team more and more so that roaming player with little defensive responsibility becomes less and less viable. Saw it at Madrid with James, great first year for us but there was that realisation that we’re not stable enough with a midfield of Kroos, Modric and James and Zidane took a chance on some kid who just came back from a loan at Porto.

    4-4-2 is 100% destroyed by 433. It overpowers the midfield and defense. It will never come back. But 4-5-1 completely Nullifies it. Its only fun when BOTH teams play 442. And its the best for viewers.
