Gavin Harrison is a genius drummer!!! I've been following him since the very first time I heard him with Porcupine Tree 13 or 14 years ago in their amazing concert Arriving Somewhere But Not Here!!!!
Ohhh the master is it again. It is not just the drumming but also the sound of his kit. He even pick the microphone he is using. Thats just a total package. The perfect trio - Gavin; Sonor and Zildjian.
What about Bruce, Jon, Steve and Darran? This isn’t the the Gavin Harrison band, folks. He is just one member of a magnificent band. No more, no less. TPT has been around for quite a while, and sounded great before.
He is the master. Lots of great drummers out there that I love but no one brings me in such a deep music immersion as Gavin its not just his technique but also the way he lives the music.
Each stroke of gavin is so perfectly timed and makes such an imprint in the mind, that if some sound engineer removes even one note from the drums track, my ears will feel the void. Oh god!! Gavin.
Whether Porc or Pine...It's pure love and admiration and so I shall say that,.....and this is my own admission that these two bands are and will be remembered for the taught behavior in a simplistic sound with extraordinary excellence. It's out of this world. We don't get this around these parts in America but at least I can realize it...lol
I've been expanding my listening of late (post Rush. RIP NP 😔) and enjoying Dream Theater (saw them recently) stumbled across Gavin Harrison on TH-cam and his different styles. From a non-drummer perspective (guitarist) obviously the guy is a huge talent and just love his kit tuning. First time listening to PT into the small hours. Great music. Oh sh*t, it's morning 😳😃
Pineapple Thief has always been hit or miss to me but its crazy how Gavin Harrison has just transformed the band so much. Even their older tunes are much better with his drumming. I didn't think it would have as much impact but it does.
Pineapple Thief's earlier records are weak compared to Porcupine Tree. The baseline is lower and the drumming was super flat back then. With the new albums with Gavin the dynamics are beautiful and consistent, the parts breathe more, he adds more variation for the rhythm sections and the songs are emotionally stronger now.

@@stephantelm4922 same with porcupine tree they were a great band before Gavin joined but they did go to another level once he started hitting the skins.
Yeah, it is definitely awesome! :) They announced he joined the band just before the release of their new album last month. The song White Mist from their new album is my favorite song I've heard from Pineapple Thief so far. Soooo good! th-cam.com/video/WVRczaGA8GI/w-d-xo.html
According to Gavin's wiki he was a guest drummer while on tour with them in 2017 and it was announced in August before they released their last album that Gavin officially joined the band. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gavin_Harrison
It's to make a "pop" noise on the snare by pushing down hard on the head with his stick. Basically doing that it just squeezes the head and doesn't allow the drum to resonate normally which causes a quick action, or a "pop". If you ever see this, lol.
i hope gavin is not getting bored with TPT. Having seen him with King Crimson and Porcupine Tree this here is more or less a big step backwards musically for him. He's way more bound to the standard pattern and does the best he can to give it a fresh and unique sound. But I think Gavin's misplaced here and his talent is wasted. I like TPT and have two albums myself (All the wars and magnolia) but a "normal" drummer gets this job done too. Having Gavin in TPT is like shooting sparrows with cannons. But TPT instantly sounds 200% more interesting.
He played for 16 years in Porcupine Tree remember? And I seem to be recognising a lot of similar+new drum patterns, so I guess i'd rather think that he's quite enjoying himself playing with them, now that Porcupine Tree has stopped creating music for an unkown amount of time. They do sound 200% more interesting though, Your Wilderness was a great display of musical talent alltogether
Pretty great music but I don't love new wave of progress there should be more metal in it like in Fates warning just perfect mix of everything , or another great example is Sieges Even metal Rock jezz acid rock great staff also check out Elay!!!!
This song reminds me of what frustrates me most about this band. Musically brilliant, lyrically deficient. Get a dictionary, look up "monosyllabic," and there's a picture of Soord. 🙄 Just shut up and play already. 👏👏
As a musician of 35 years - This music is more complex than you think it is. Kinda in the category of Pinback where people think that music on the mellow side is easy to play until they actually try to play it. Good luck (for most people). There are so many layers to this song (and their music in general) and to nail it live is an amazing accomplishment.

Hamburg - Docks Porcupine Tree, great show, great Gavin! I can't forget!!!
Same here, same tour, Robert Fripp opened the show in Manhattan
Harmony of the bass guitar and Gavin's cymbal&tom melodies amazes me each time I hear this live version.
Gavin is so good in that harmony. Another example: Starting Something Beautiful

Weltklasse !
Oh my God! What a fantastic music!
Bloody brilliant!
Ahh, they nailed it live! One of my favorite TPT songs. Lineup interesting too, with Darran Charles from Godsticks.
So good!
Listening to this band for the 1st time. Amazing. Excellent musicians. And that drummer ? Wow !
Unbelievabale Sound! Master class artists😀
Gavin is the best!!!
Skill, perfect timing, awsome control, and a deep seated understanding of his kit and what it is capable of. Gavin Harrison is THE man🥁✌️🇬🇧✊
Nope. Just one of five.
Gavin The Legend
A falta de Porcupine Tree....buenos son los The Pineapple Thief
All the Wars was one of the first PT albums I got. This version is even better than the original.
Fantastic track and they sound great in this live performance. I will try to see a concert in the near future

whats happening at the 5.22and5.25 and beyond with that thing when gavin puts his stick straight up on a drum???anyone?

Bruce takes singer/songwriter songs, and then teases them out to expose the guts. With Gavin on drums!

Can good musicians make music that doesn't sound like christian rock?

I've never heard any Christian rock fortunately, but I bet my left ball that it doesn't sound that good
