Did you stop to think that maybe those dots are visible inside because they affect items which can be seen from inside the cab? It lets you add mirrors and pick a visor from within the cab where you will be seeing them the most.
You should really switch to the eaton fuller 18 gearbox option in settings. Then there will be a high and low of the gears instead of switching through all 18. The shifter layout will change as well and you'll be able to float gears (shift without clutch). It's all how it is in a real American truck that way
Squirrel, use the option for the realistic Eaton-Fuller Transmission in your options menu. It breaks the 18 speed box down into a much easier setup on the H-Shifter. You basically get 8 main forward gears, with a high and low option for each.
Paul I saw that cut coming the moment you started doing your configs without loaning from the bank lol. As for the exterior accessories being visible in the interior view, I think they're there so you can see how they look from the inside. It kind of makes sense, I just hope they can color the circles differently to differentiate between interior and exterior accessories.
Paul, if you select the Eaton fuller 18 speed shifter under controller options, then the mod you are already using will display L and H for the gears. You will lose the 6 shift pattern with 1-4 and 5-8 L&H plus a LL crawler gear and R1L/H the reverse goes where 1 is on your current pattern and 1-4 are mapped through 3,4,5,and 6.
The L and H in eaton fuller gears should appear if you have eaton fuller setup in your settings (instead of splitter/range choose the actual eaton fuller one). It has always shown for me.
I hope SCS adds in the ability to drop the dually axles and add in the super single tires for the rear axles. A lot of trucks in the US are dropping the dual rear wheels for a wider single wheel to cut costs and cut time it takes to swap out tires. The nice thing about that 18 speed is 17 and 18 gears are your over drives so doing 65 or 80 and you'll be running with about 1200-1500RPM.
select the Eaton Fuller set up. it will set you up with LL,L,1L,1H, and so on. will also move your reverse to the top left. basically sets you up like the real deal. eather in controls, or game play, can't remember but it will be obvious. as it will say Eaton Fuller 18 speed. hope this helps you out squirrel.
Just an FYI, when you want to visit the truck dealer just hit ESC and click Truck Dealers. From there you can pick any of the dealers you have found and do a quick trip to the truck dealer without having to drive all the way there. Only works when you don't have a trailer attached.
18:03, it’s been 7 years since this video, but I just now noticed the Food Lion trailer, which is funny, because Food Lion is a grocery store chain in the southeast region of the US and a lot of them are in my state of Virginia, a good few of them are still open actually, but the one in my town closed in, lord, 2006 I think. I know this video is 7 years ago, but I just figured I’d comment this, because I find a Food Lion trailer, in the West Coast of ATS being played by a British man who probably has no idea of Food Lion existence, rather interesting and funny lol
Highly recommend using your Jake brake, save your brakes a bit while making a magical sound hehe... true story the sound of a Jake brake is actually my favorite sound in the whole world, and I live right next to I-25 in Colorado so I hear them constantly XD
it amazes me you have done so much with so little money. I just started this game mostly due to your video's and have covered 300k before i'm even considering my first truck
So I know this is a bit of a nitpick about the trailer detail, but the marker lighting along the sides the very last one should be red. That is a DOT standard in America. Also the side lights never flash when turning. Usually there is one large amber light that will flash, and that is located around the middle of the trailer attached to the underside. Again minor detail, but every bit helps for true immersion.
@squirrel You should restore the stock gear mapping from ATS instead of using the ones from your euro truck, as the 18 speed, the gears and switches are all correct with the default because the truck actually only has 8 gears that split, and euro truck didn't support that so all the names are wrong. Fist gear is actually Low-Low (Directly Below Reverse) 2 is Low-high, then you get First Gear low (3), first gear high(4) you get the idea. Oh and you gear indicator will show gears and splits properly as well.
Pro or sounding American: we amost never say the word "interstate" in the name of the highway. We might refer to the highway that way, as in "I'm going to the Kenworth dealer by the interstate." But when naming the highway, we just use the letter "I". So you jus went to the dealer "up the I5". Down in LA you'll find th e"I5-I15 interchange". And eventually you will drive from San Francisco to New York on "I80".. :)
Squirrel, you should consider adding Kriechbaum's W900 engine pack sounds mod. In the mod, the Cummins N14 has an "open pipe" sound. It sounds fantastic. Especially when using the jake brake. I do not think you will be disappointed. Just an FYI. Nice video also!
@Squirrel: If you hit 5 along the top of the keyboard, you will get the Lean Out camera. Gives a similar angle to when you look around to the left with the TrackIR, but slightly further out. Should be enough to clear the exhausts. Also, there is a version of the transmission you chose that has a retarder, you just didn't get it.
Don't know about trucks, but for cars, DRLs are not required, and it's up to the car manufacturer to choose which models comes with it as standard, option or not at all.
You were talking about the L and H on the shifter. That's actually in the game already. Don't exactly know how to get it working anymore, but I know it's there.
They do have daytime running lights on some models. but the majority of a time they dont because in american there are not thatmany laws set up to require day light. you can just use your low beams or parking lights.
lol big baby its not a lot of config to redo. try when your buying a pete 379 and you deck it out and then figure out that you need money for it. thats fun
Instead of taking 400,000 do it in increments like multiples of 10,000, 50,000, 80,000 and pay them off as and when you attain the smaller amounts. That way you pay them off quicker and pay less per day. Whereas it's a long grind to get 400,000 in one go.
It must have been a long long time since you bought a truck at a low level because you don't have to drive to the truck dealers to buy a truck. Sure, you can if you want, but it isn't necessary. All you have to do is go to the truck dealers via the main game screen. That way the truck dealers are open 24/7.
I've been playing a bit and noticed. The AI drivers actually level up independently. I was driving along and got a message saying one of my drivers gained a level.
congrats on the w900 purchase squirrel! I love it :) surprised you arent that big on the sleeper cabins and prefer the day cabs, no matter though, both are really nice! enjoy! and having double the power will make things nicer im sure lol :) btw, really awesome gear box mapping!
Come on, Paul! Swag master Valentino deserves the OG Peterbuilt! - I think you were so impatient to get the Kenworth you missed a lot of small important details. :(
Timothy Graybeal Even doing the deletes doesn't guarantee reliability. If they could make the DPFs serviceable by being able to just pop the filter out that would save people a ton of money. Guess I'm stuck buying gasoline for probably forever.
Hey Squirrel, you know how you couldn't figure out why your air horns didn't sound and you only had the standard horn? You forgot to map your air horns to the button you're using for the horn in the key commands.
Why don't you barrow money from the mob? "When you need to borrow money the Mob seems like a better deal I think. 'You don't pay me back I break both yer legs.' Is that all? You won't take my house or wreck my credit rating? Fine where do I sign. Legs? Fine. You don't even have to sign anything." Craig Ferguson
"keep your flippin trailer" - lol that was great. A good facepalm moment, configure the entire truck, whoops forgot the bank loan. SCS please put an option in to save truck configuration
Finally you got yourself a proper truck ;) Cannot wait until SCS releases the Pete 389. +Squirrel You can buy an 18 speed retarder gearbox later. You could use an engine / jake break instead, it's more American anyway :D
X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X Well being Scottish and driving over many EU countries with my dad in his truck, for about 3 or 4 years I can say exhaust brakes (or jake brakes to you guys) are common over here, in fact I've not been in a truck that didn't have 1.

As Im still at low level, but i dont recall the stock engines options being so detailed and so realistic. I looked at your mod list but nothing strikes me as a engine mods. thanks so much, and i love you video diaries please keep doing more.
Hi Squirrel, enjoyed the video. Keep them coming. I have tired numerous times to input mods from Steam Workshop and it never works. I've followed the instructions the way it's described without results. Do you have any helpful hints?
can you please use the jake brake more because I live in Canada and every second you hear a truck it will use the jack brake because I live in a hilly area
Hello Squirrel, Just figured I'd let you know (tho you probably already been told 500 times), 10 spd is common for 2 axle trailers, 13 is a little better option, but 10 can handle into tri axle trailers.... You don't really need 15 or 18 spd transmissions until you are talking 6 trailer axles or more.... As a US truck driver, I just figured I would let you know....
+bigtrucker26 That's interesting. As a UK truck driver, we have mostly automatic 12 speed boxes here now. But there are some manuals left. It's not unusual to have 8 speed manual trucks pulling tri-axles grossing 44 tonnes, or 12 speed autos pulling single axle trailers. Trailers are no where near as long as the American counterparts, typically being 45ft. There are trials of extra long trailers which are 1 or 2 metres longer, but the maximum gross weight remains the same. 40 tonnes for a four wheeler and 44 tonnes for a six wheeler. A standard unit/tri-axle will be at most 55'6". The extra long ones 61'6". Unlike your sliding axle trailers, our axles are fixed.
+Pogglebox The standard U.S. truck is a tandem drive, and nearly all equipment uses dualies for anything beside the (rarely more than 1) steer axle.... We run 80,000 lbs down the road with our "18 wheelers", and though the 48 foot trailers were standard years ago, it is rare to find van trailers in service that aren't 53 foot these days, though there are some states that will allow longer... Here you can leave the 48 foot trailer axles full back nearly everywhere.... So - 80,000 generally gets 10 speeds, though 13 is a little better, but I have run effectively countless times with spread 3, and tight 4 axle trailers running 100,000 lbs or more with 10 speeds, gravel trains, and what I refer to in my own mind as caterpillar trailers (those that have 6-8 or more axles - literally from landing gear to full legal length/back of trailer) use the 15-18 speed transmissions.... While There are a couple companies in Canada that are allowed triple 53 foot "road trains" on a trial bases (last I heard), you are generally allowed 1 53 footer, though in a couple places and Canadian provinces you are allowed 2 53 foot trailers... Ohio allows up to double 48 foot trailers on the turnpike. Generally you can pull double 28 foot, as general rules allow a little over a single 53 foot trailer length if pulling 2 instead of 1... Ohio I "think" allows triple 28 footers... The vast majority of US trucks are Manual, though the "driver shortage" is prompting companies to purchase automated manuals, the allison style (automotive style) automatics are rare. The Automated shiftmaps have historically been pretty shoddy in my experience, but for the past 10 years or so they have been getting that straightened out and the automateds are getting as good as, and occasionally better than a experienced driver.... Loading - 12,000 lbs (I think it was 16,000 if you run "super singles" *note-not the dually replacement "wide base" single *note-I have not run with these) on single tire axle, 18,000 lbs on dually, duallies next to each other (tandem/tridem/etc.) lose a 1,000 lbs capacity, so tandem duallies cary 34,000 instead of 36,000, they want 9 foot spread to retain 18,000 lbs per axle. To run down the road at 80,000 lbs, you need a tandem tractor, with a 48 foot trailer's tandems spread (approximately 40.5 foot kingpin to rear axles)..... Canada permits heavier tandem weights with a spread just a wide enough for me to stand between the tires comfortably facing the frame.... (Those {what I call Canada spread} actually ride smoother over speed bumps and down the road....) ***not meant as uncontestable fact, but personal observation and basic rules I run by to keep me out of trouble...
+BlueDragon1212 I Operate primarily out of south east michigan, and usually well used equipment, My statements are based on my experience, and needs, operating under US regulations.... I have pulled spread tri-axles, and tight quad-axles, and that is the equipment I used effectively, however, I am aware that gravel trains and the all axle trailers usually have 15 or 18 spds... However, one thing you are likely forgetting is that double 53 foot is more common in Canada, so you are talking about 110,000+ lbs of trailers alone, while most places (here) only allow 1 53 footer, or pulling about 55,000, so it is quite a bit more weight capacity your probably being equipped for...
Seems like you have a lot more to work out over there than we do here. Our trucks (wagons) have a ministry plate with gross, train and axle weights listed. Trailers have the same. Typical trailers use super singles with some operating dually replacements and some still use duallies. Each axle of the trailer is typically rated at 8 tonnes, although there are some shorter Urban trailers with 9 tonne per axle ratings. Of course our roads are much, much narrower than yours, with very tight deliver points and we even run right into the centre of major cities including London. Loads on a Triaxle can gross 28 tonnes which equates to 61700 pounds or thereabouts. Anything heavier is classed as an abnormal load and subject to different regulations. I've been reading about your Hours of service too and things are completely different over here. One thing they need to bring in here which you have is the ability to finish a run after hours in the event of an emergency. There simply are no provisions for such events in our regulations.
Did you stop to think that maybe those dots are visible inside because they affect items which can be seen from inside the cab? It lets you add mirrors and pick a visor from within the cab where you will be seeing them the most.
+James Coyle Was about to say this myself lol

will it Map to allow a throttle roll to select high lo?
+John Dubiel I don't think so. It is usually a button press to select what range you are in.
+Justin Weinberg it should be a thing, would make the simulator more realistic.
Paul I saw that cut coming the moment you started doing your configs without loaning from the bank lol.

Having a blizzard here and left work after only an hour. Came home to a new trucking diaries episode. Perfect!

Slight audio sync issues. I can hear the mouse click when nothing is happening on the screen yet. But great video, as always Squirrel!
+Chris Bowen I noticed the same thing. I thought it was a bit confusing when Paul was in the recruitment agency.
You should upgrade to the 1.2 beta of ATS. Lots of features that would make your diaries less stressful. (Left turn arrows)

Grapes are hauled in open Ag bin trailers. If you have a box trailer, it's more than likely wine.
Yes day time lights are a thing in the USA. Trucks especially

I know this is late but: 17:24 “sooo many gears” 😂🤣😂
13:32 Do you realise that Mads has a point in Hazard cargoes as well?
I think that the sound was slightly off-sync when you were in the Recruitment Agency.
when you started configuring I was screaming " YOU FORGOT THE LOAN "
Squirrel, you should consider adding Kriechbaum's W900 engine pack sounds mod. In the mod, the Cummins N14 has an "open pipe" sound. It sounds fantastic. Especially when using the jake brake. I do not think you will be disappointed. Just an FYI. Nice video also!

I love analog clocks in vehicles, especially in my 918 spyder
I am a dedicated fan, I have watched all 28 episodes of trucking diaries. You have inspired me to buy this game.
Will you do a Truck Driving School video on shifting? Mainly with 6 and 8 gear shifters and how you do split axle shifting with them?
You were talking about the L and H on the shifter. That's actually in the game already. Don't exactly know how to get it working anymore, but I know it's there.
Plus, it has really awesome engine brake sound
wohoo.... Kenny is finally ours.... congrats.... one thing.... that trailer mod is all over ur AI traffic.... Thanks for the vid!!
Hey Squirrel, Gratulation to your new kenny. its a nice truck on the way.
👍🚚😊
Yeah nice Kenny. Don't get the sleeper because it is a waste of money and space. But still great vid Paul
North America was first to enact a law legislating the use of daytime running lamps. Europe followed NA.
Tsk tsk Squirrel. You should have started out with a Kenworth pulling logs.
Ha! That's one of my favorite songs of all time. One of my favorite movies, too.
nice looking truck squirrel, love the kenworth w900 one of my favorite trucks to see on the roadway yaaaaaayyyyy!!!
Hi Paul, I needed this because I just come back from the dentist and the left side of my mouth in numb
20:08 "is he letting me out?" Slowly inches forward into the intersection
They do have daytime running lights on some models. but the majority of a time they dont because in american there are not thatmany laws set up to require day light. you can just use your low beams or parking lights.
I'm pretty sure that there is a mod that gets rid of the visor for the interior view. So you could get the drop down visor.
22:14 “hay” 🤣🤣🤣 gets me everytime haha
+squirrel
Any Owner-Operator will tell you, the happiest two days of ownership is the day you buy it and the day you sell it.
lol big baby its not a lot of config to redo. try when your buying a pete 379 and you deck it out and then figure out that you need money for it. thats fun
That Kenny dashboard is very busy with dials and has a longer nose than the peterbilt.
in some trucks if u are past your time to sleep the engine slows u down to 5-10 mph
Instead of taking 400,000 do it in increments like multiples of 10,000, 50,000, 80,000 and pay them off as and when you attain the smaller amounts. That way you pay them off quicker and pay less per day. Whereas it's a long grind to get 400,000 in one go.

All you have to do is go to the truck dealers via the main game screen. That way the truck dealers are open 24/7.
why do you not seem to notice the hazard points when getting a driver as mads had 1 in long and 1in explosives
No daytime running lights required in America. Except motorcycles. They're required to have a headlight on all the time.
"Im going to go buy a kenworth"
CELEBRATE GUD TIMES CMON
Also your jake break would save on the breaks wouldn't it since it uses the exhaust system?
Yes headlights are required during the day on trucks in America
Squirrel, by selecting the gearbox at the shop, you can see whether it comes with a retarder or not.
What mod is giving you all of those different engines? I looked at your mod list and didn't see one for that.
It's called Odd_fellow's Engine Sound Pack for Kenworth W900 Mod
Yas, more ATS. This is my favorite series on ur channel :D
"I don't think anything else can go wrong." famous last words
I'm surprised that SCS didn't model the air and electrical hoses that connect to the trailer. It would be a hell of a lot more realistic if they did.

1 to 6 you don't press any buttons press your toggle 1 button for 7 to 12 then press you 2nd toggle button for 13 to 18
24:00 I was driving on that road and a cop coming towards me was overtaking and we almost crashed. I think that cops need to get tickets too...
My dad has a 600hp Cummins. Did you know that they are straight six cylinder diesel motors? The grounds shakes when it's running.
+Timothy Graybeal That is what ISX stands for from Cummins. Too bad every company is having to sacrifice reliability for emissions.
+Ratkill9000 yeah. The emissions really bring these engines down.
Timothy Graybeal Its the main reason why I can't bring myself into buying a newer diesel vehicle...too unreliable to make it worth my wild.
+Ratkill9000 yeah. I won't buy a diesel anymore. The emissions systems are too prone to failure. And when they do fail, it's very expensive to fix.
Timothy Graybeal Even doing the deletes doesn't guarantee reliability. If they could make the DPFs serviceable by being able to just pop the filter out that would save people a ton of money. Guess I'm stuck buying gasoline for probably forever.
audio is quicker than video by a few seconds. slightly noticeable but great video :)
+Ethan Gordon Yeah I noticed that too. Seemed like his software glitched early on when he was customizing the truck.
+kjemradio or he might've fucked it up in editing
+Ethan Gordon Yes.
+Ethan Gordon Especially in the Recruitment Agency.
Hey Squirrel. F.Y.I., in the new update / beta update 1.2.x, the W900 receives an official gear indicator in the dash. Thought you'd like to know. :)
They need to fix those traffic light-free intersections. The only way to get through them is to break traffic laws.
Squirrel tip: Never go to or from a Coastline mining in a W900!
Hey Squirrel, you know how you couldn't figure out why your air horns didn't sound and you only had the standard horn? You forgot to map your air horns to the button you're using for the horn in the key commands.
Another excellent video as always. Well done!
you should switch to the eaton fuller 18spd layout
You need to use the real 18 speed config with high and low + range its awesome and really easy to learn after a while, and the most realistic way
the w900's reflection effects on its body seems somewhat zoomed in
At about 27:00 when Squirrel is pulling away you can spot a cop car in the mirror. He must have been really angry :D.
D'Oh, you didn't map the air horns to the horn button. Your default horn is still mapped to your horn button.
You should've waited to get the sleeper cab!
"keep your flippin trailer" - lol that was great. A good facepalm moment, configure the entire truck, whoops forgot the bank loan. SCS please put an option in to save truck configuration
I wish that they had those jet 2 holiday trailers in ETS2!
'I'm also doing...a lot of speed' - Squirrel, 35:15
Finally you got yourself a proper truck ;) Cannot wait until SCS releases the Pete 389. +Squirrel You can buy an 18 speed retarder gearbox later. You could use an engine / jake break instead, it's more American anyway :D
Yeah I know, it's been along time
+X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X It's more American? In what way is it more American?
Raged Drew
As far as I heard not many US trucks have a retarder, and in Europe it's very common.
X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X
Well being Scottish and driving over many EU countries with my dad in his truck, for about 3 or 4 years I can say exhaust brakes (or jake brakes to you guys) are common over here, in fact I've not been in a truck that didn't have 1.
Raged Drew
I did not know that - thank you
Why didn't you hire Mads O.? He had one point in Long distance and one point in Explosives!
I can't believe he missed that also. :/
I love the kenworth t800 and w900
Can you please try the W900 mega soundpack by Kreichbaum? I guarantee that it sound WAY better than the one your using
Hey I dont know if you have already answered this question, you have sooo many comments it might be a while before I find my answer. Do you have a mod installed for the engines. As Im still at low level, but i dont recall the stock engines options being so detailed and so realistic. I looked at your mod list but nothing strikes me as a engine mods. thanks so much, and i love you video diaries please keep doing more.
omg! I work at a Food Lion store in Tennessee!
13:19, mass had dangerous cargo
Hi Squirrel, enjoyed the video. Keep them coming. I have tired numerous times to input mods from Steam Workshop and it never works. I've followed the instructions the way it's described without results. Do you have any helpful hints?

rage makes it so much better
Their should be a mod that simulates the engine fan turning on and off depending on temperature.
I doubt you would be able to hear a fan kicking on and off with the engine going.
DarthCuda If you ever heard a fan turning on in trucks its really obvious all you hear is air being pushed out or in depending on your truck.
Hello Squirrel,
Just figured I'd let you know (tho you probably already been told 500 times), 10 spd is common for 2 axle trailers, 13 is a little better option, but 10 can handle into tri axle trailers....
+bigtrucker26 I find that really interesting because most of our truck up here are Eaton 18's (Canada) Regardless of what we seem to haul
(Those {what I call Canada spread} actually ride smoother over speed bumps and down the road....)
***not meant as uncontestable fact, but personal observation and basic rules I run by to keep me out of trouble...
Why are all the trailers tri axles, is that a mod thing or a SCS programming glitch?
Btw Squirrel the truckers sleep with their running lights on.
You need the "Jake Brake." Might be called "Engine Brake." "BBWWWAAAHHHH!!!!!"
Can you do a trip where you deliver some diesel or petrol please Squirrel?
Squirrel have you reduced you graphics settings looks a bit low res in the video
