Dan Haggerty (born 19 November 1942 - January 15, 2016), was an American actor and best known as Grizzly Adams in the title role of the 1974 Sunn Classic Pictures feature, The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams. From this feature film evolved the NBC television series which ran from 1977 to 1978, and Haggerty became famous to millions of nature-loving movie-goers for his popular portrayal of James "Grizzly" Adams. His preference in movie-making is to do outdoor films designed to entertain the entire family.
Haggerty, a former animal trainer, stunt expert and animal handler for a Tarzan feature and the Tarzan (TV series), directed white tigers, wolverines, eagles and wild boar in "When the North Wind Blows," and worked with bears, foxes and hawks in My Side of the Mountain.
In The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams, one of Haggerty's co-stars was a 500-pound grizzly bear named Ben, who was actually a female bear named Bozo. She died in 1999 at the age of 39. The true life Adams and his bear lived in the mid-1800s and accompanied each other through the trials and adventures of the western mountain wilderness.
That, in turn, led to the film, The Capture of Grizzly Adams which stars Haggerty as the legendary mountain-man who risks his freedom to return to civilization and prevent authorities from sending his daughter (Sydney Penny) to an orphanage. The world premiere aired on NBC.

I was in my high school years also, use to come home after school and watch grizzly Adams. No internet, no cell phones, kids played out side, and you could freely speak your mind and voice your own opinions. Times sure have changed, I miss this period of my life, where has it all gone to.
Oh man - i used to watch this show with my father in the U.K - we both loved it. My dad was a real outdoors man -Always in the woods, loved to fish out at sea, knew what plants in the woods you could use as medicine, what you could drink as tea etc - bushcraft stuff passed down to him by his elders. He came to the u.k as an immigrant in the 60's and lived in the city and worked in a factory, but i know he missed so much being able to go out and wander in nature. He LOVED this show as it reminded him of home. ❤️
I always couldn't wait till Grizzly Adams came on always loved it I just got season one and two and the capture of Grizzly Adams watched all of them hope to get more of his frontier movies RIP Dan and thank you so much for these wonderful shows God Bless your family

I remember as a kid, I used to watch this show, and dream of a life of simplicity. I was born in Michigan, raised in a suburb of Chicago, and moved to a small Wisconsin town with my family in my late twenties. I am so happy here! I am 47 now, and I love the fact that my girls have been raised here. This is such a beautiful state! It is so wild, yet so peaceful! The biggest crime that happens here is an unclaimed deer carcass on the side of the road. Police patrol the town on snow mobiles in the winter. This is home. We have an old fashioned diner that serves steak and eggs at three A.M. If an officer pulls you over, he knows your first name, and your family. and he will likely call your Mother after pulling you over. I will die here my friends. The beauty here is God's finest work.

Great job! I like the bears, the horses, the butterfly's, the wolves, the bambi and the eagle in the end. Every morning i look for a red kite(Milan) here in Germany (Bavaria, Lohr) and when i see this bird i think to : Der Mann in den Bergen (German translationen for Grizzly Adams ). Thank you!
