800 Year Old Stone Tower in Delhi, India 🇮🇳

  • I visited the Qutub Complex in Delhi which hosts the Qutub Minar, a minaret constructed as a "victory tower" by the first sultan of Delhi, Qutb al-Din Aibak, over 900 years ago.
I paid the foreigner price of 600 rupees, 15x more than regular ticket price of 40 rupees, to enter this UNESCO world heritage site. However I did save some money by sneaking my camera in rather than paying for a video camera permit, which was only fair.
I was very disappointed that it's was not permitted to enter the minaret. I learned that it was closed to the public 40 years ago after a tragic incident and has never been reopened since. I probably wouldn't have visited it if I knew that I couldn't go inside it. 600 rupees seems a bit much just to be able to look at it from the outside and walk around the ruins surrounding it.
It was a beautiful area to walk around on a sunny day though and I did learn a bit about what the different ruins were and when they were built. Not everything had an information sign next to it though so I just had to fill in the blanks with my imagination.

What do you think guys, worth the 600 rupees? I think it would be worth it if you could get up the tower but think it's a bit much just to look at it from the outside.

The iron pillar of Delhi is a structure 23 feet 8 inches (7.2 metres) high with 16 inches (40.64 cm) diameter that was constructed by Chandragupta II (reigned c. 375-415 CE). The Qutub Minar was built as a victory tower to commemorate the victory of the Islamic invaders over the existing Hindu kingdoms. The Mosque next to it was built by demolishing 27 Hindu and Jain temples and resuing the materials. The stone pillars in the the Mosque complex have the traditional Jain and Hindu engravings which were all plastered over. Only few decades back the plaster came off.

    • @aviralsharma7744
      @aviralsharma7744 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

the ancient texts describe the material as well as of the elements used in the pillar but as it has been the case forever, who cares about India's glorious history. The qutub complex was a temple of jain and hindu, with qutub minar impossible to be constructed within a term, even though they did that means they should have already decided the stories of the building which is nowhere described .
Infact we found texts of using it as an astronomical observatory with temples around it in a circular manner.
The quran verses on it are inscribed in a hurry with all mistakes
A minaret can never have flowers, bells etc which is completely haram in islam
The flowers used are lotus, holy to India
The quranic verses are inscribed upon it which clearly shows the superimposition whereas the flowers, bells and other carvings are engraved with the building in original.
Even ASI kk mohammad has cleared it not to be a minaret
The other building unbuilt was a try by invaders to copy the original but failed.
The red Fort was taken by the sultanate from the rajputs and was reconstructed time by time
The older areas can be easily seen
      ASI approves it

Qutub minar was never used as a prayer/call tower, its a long running myth, it was a victory tower, built with sandstone which isnt found in Delhi so it showed the prosperity, power and victory of the ruler who built it, it showed how well he is resourced and his logistical prowess.....one can simply shout his/her lungs out on top of tower and no one will be able to listen to him or her on ground thats how sound works on such heights and open air area.

Actually what happened was that in the 80s, there was a School Picnic of middle school kids at the place. Back then, the Main Minaret was open for the public. It was just like a balcony on top covered with metal railings.
The staircase lighting failed which caused a massive panic. So the crowd of 350-400 people ran for the exits, and unfortunately trampled over dozens of people. A few were injured, but 47 of them died. Most of the fatalities were the school kids.
They did keep it open, but only for adults and limited number of people at a time. However, they seized it from public access in the year 2000 or so, because of some people using it for suicide attempts.
I feel kinda sad that it'll always be associated with that unfortunate incident.
Like, you can't enjoy the beauty of the structure, without having your heart go out for those people, you know?
