I thought I had commented on the last one when I saw the thumbnail. What a response. 👍👍👍 There maybe a niche for you to exploit there. Someone might have done this before but I haven't seen it yet and as you say, as good as the other one. My initial response was... You've just won the internet so I'll let you have that one as well. Keep it up. 😁
sponging. brilliant idea for tyranids, usually its for weathering armour and venicles, but perfectly organic for alien insects and dinosaurs. you've inspired me thanks.
Couldn’t agree more I’m looking to get an airbrush at some time but seeing the quality of the paint scheme you got is amazing. Love the colour and the way when the black gets on the skin but adds to it 👍
This is great man! Just pre-ordered one of the new starter kits and it’ll be my first time painting Tyranids and was trying to find a style just like this. Thanks for the tutorial 👍
Most excellent lol amazing job it is great see a follow up video like this. Not many people do this. Will be check8ng my paints I want to give this scheme a try..
Good luck with the channel. With such great quality to start with I'm sure we will see big things from you. Looking forward to being able to say "I remember when he had 1 video up"
That’s so nice of you to say, thank you. I honestly didn’t think I’d get 100 views in the first month so it’s been a bit crazy from my perspective! It’s been fun though, I’m definitely enjoying the process of making videos.
@@rgbminiatures Enjoy it. Its well deserved. I'm sure you'll feel a bit overwhelmed and under pressure but here is my advice. Have fun, ignore polls and viewer requests and do what you enjoy. It will show through in the work. Have fun doing what you're doing and people will watch, as is shown by your first video. Don't let it become a chore and burn yourself out. Just keep doing what you are doing.
@@criticalcommenter that sounds like good advice, thanks. I’m tempted to do something painting all the leviathan tyranids in one video, but I may do something else entirely next. Still making my mind up!
In some ways, the Garaghak's Sewer tint at the end provides a sharper contrast/more worn look than the streaking grime (or could just be the lighting). Thinned contrast paints as filters ifor weathering/streaking is one of the best (presumably) unintended extra benefits of the various 'contrast/speed/colorexpress' paint ranges.
I agree. Personally I prefer the contrast method over the streaking grime for how it looks but I’ll be sticking to the enamels for my army as it’s quicker to do, I want to be able to get them all done in as little time as possible. Thanks very much for watching, really appreciated.
This is awesome, i too havent had the time or money to invest in getting and learning to use an airbrush, but this scheme looks so good, so knowing how to do it with brushes is amazing. Props to you my friend! Keep up the amazing work!
For 20 years now I have not been able to invent a really MY unique scheme for the Tyranid army... With all other miniatures it’s easier: the goal is to break the feeling of “toy plastic/tin soldiers”. So I want to learn how to paint 50 shades of copper, brass and bronze, completely avoiding any grey metal. All other colors will be secondary to the copper shades.
Dang this is so good. I really like how to sponged white and blue contrast looks compared to airbrushing the white ink. It looks more organic and the extra spots on the carapace looks really grewt
Thanks very much! I like to think people can now pick and choose the bits they like most from both videos and combine them to get the look they’re after. Thanks for watching
This is incredible! I'd love to see this method done with some of the bigger hive fleets like kraken or tiemet, hydra would look good with this as well! So much to paint 😂
I love this. Will probably use a variation on this when painting mine up. That said, ThirdEyeNuke's old tyranid army sure is proving influential, isn't it? You, Cult of Paint, Colin Ward, even GW is getting in on it with the new Hive Fleet Typhon color scheme... it's like everyone saw those pics of the minimalist pale space bugs with the shiny black carapaces eleven years ago and the visual design has just been percolating in everyone's heads for the decade since. This is definitely one of my favorite takes on it, though.
That's exactly what I was looking for! IMHO those other "poppy" rainbow coloured schemes don't really fit in with highly aggressive world-devouring alien monsters...🦄🌈🧚♀️ May I ask you to write the colours used in the video description below? Greetings from Germany. 🙋♂️
List of paints: Chaos black spray Wraithbone spray Gryph hound orange Black legion Corvus black Eshin grey White scar Aethermatic blue Yriel yellow Wraithbone Garaghak's sewer Contrast medium
i like the colour scheme. I would however choose sa different colour on the base to make the model pop. Id go for something vibrant like an orange or yellow. The model is so dark i think it would do well with a lighter base. Just my subjective opinion of course :)
Thank you Brilliant follow up video! I spent all day yesterday testing out different nid paint schemes before I paint the Leviathan models. You’re version came out top even thou I don’t have an airbrush so to see this follow up the next day Wow! I must admit the Streaking Grime finish’s it off perfect! Was debating about getting an Air brush not used one before any thoughts?
If you’re a beginner I’d say hold off on the airbrush until you’re more comfortable and confident with brush control and learnt how to paint to a level you’re happy with using normal brushes. If you’re at that level I’d say go for it, an airbrush is an amazing tool to have
I have an airbrush (scale modelling background, so even more common there) and I don't use it a lot - it has its applications, but outside of vehicles and base coating, it takes a whole lot of time to get good - which would be better spent, as rgb said, working on upping your brush skills.
@@uriance88 thank you much appreciated! Been painting for over 10 years now so reasonably decent painter. I’ve looked at air brush’s before and thought too much hassle. This video got me thinking again as need to batch the Leviathan nids. What I liked so the subtle blending off the orange and blue which requires reasonable effort with brush but looked effortless and quick when RGB demonstrated on the video. I guess he is a master at this.
Great video, think I'm going to mix the techniques by using the brush tutorial from this video then use the Streaking Grime from the previous. Which type of Streaking Grime did you use? I wanted to buy some but there's a few different types
The streaking grime I used was from AK and has “for all vehicles” on the bottle. I think it’s just the generic one, there are different colours available, would be interesting to see what difference they make.
About a year ago Tabletop Time did a 'let's try all the streaking grimes' video which gives you a sense of the different effects that they all give - but TL:DR the 'generic' grime is the best overall with the others being more 'I need it to look like X' rather than just general 'weathered'.
I think I’m using a small layer brush from citadel in these videos. Personally my favourite brush for details would be a winsor and newton series 7 size 1.
Thank god, I hate that every painting tutorial is an airbrush, so this really helps me!!!
