South pullu to khardungala pass..
An army check post on the road to Khardung la. Also a stopover point on the way to Khardung la. Check point (pay tax and permit for passing of Khardung pass). The word Pulu is used for a stone but used by "Cow boys" during the summermonths for grazing cows/yaks. South was used by Military when they built a traffic check post here.
Thrilling ride amidst snow, enchanting scenery, treacherous road, traffic jam at 5100 mtrs, irresponsible driving of not giving preference for up-hill vehicles - an experience of mixed bag marked my ride through Khardung La. At the peak point of Khardung La because of snow melt and dirt, it became very difficult to enjoy the place and do any reasonably safe walking around - so be prepared and dont spend more than 5-10 min
Locals and BRO do a stellar job to maintain the road reasonably well and ensure too much of snow dont block the road. Khardungla pass connects Nubra Valley to Leh town.
This hilly road is located at a distance of 38 KM from Leh town. The pass on the Ladakh Range is north of Leh and is the gateway to the Shyok and Nubra valleys. The Siachen Glacier lies part way up the latter valley.
Built in 1976, it was opened to public motor vehicles in 1988. Maintained by the Border Roads Organisation, the pass is strategically important to India as it is used to carry supplies to the Siachen Glacier.The elevation of Khardung La is 5,359 m (17,582 ft).Local summit signs and dozens of stores selling shirts in Leh incorrectly claim that its elevation is in the vicinity of 5,602 m (18,379 ft)} and that it is the world's highest motorable pass. Famously known as the gateway to the Nubra and Shyok Valleys in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir. Adventure bikers from all parts of our country and across the world visit this mountain pass on their motorcycles for an adventure soaked experience.
Towards North pullu-khalsar nubra
North Pullu is a place and checkpoint on the road that connects Leh with the Nubra Valley. It is located North of Khardung La, on the Nubra Valley side
Khalsar is a village in the Leh district of Ladakh, India.It is located in the Nubra tehsil..According to the 2011 census of India, Khalsar has 22 households. The effective literacy rate (i.e. the literacy rate of population excluding children aged 6 and below) is 44.71% ..
