11:10 the apple's a really smart choice there, it sort of cuts the less appetizing sides of both of the other ingredients without needing to stuff it with artificial sweeteners and thickeners that'd give it that off-putting artificial feel. it makes up for lack of sugar from the carrot and makes up for the lack of structure from the strawberry
I love when they started giving tortillas. With peanut butter… with chicken or tuna… mayo… cheese… there’s just so much you can do with a tortilla and they are delicious and resistant to being squished. That’s something you should do Steve. MRE’s come in a case. You should do a “fine dine’ing” video. Where you mix and match components to create something unique. That’s what guys do in the field. The rules are you just have to use components from an “A” or a “B” case.
For example the best way to eat the “beef stew” (which is my favorite MRE menu) was to heat up the main and jalapeño cheese in the heater. Then add the melted cheese into the main. Then crumble up the crackers and add them to the main. Stir. Then add the tobacco and a touch of salt and stir… it made a “goo” that even in Iraq… tasted pretty good. The only thing better was buying a goat and an chicken and having “kabobs”.
The old MRE menus were good for that, back in the late 80s and early 90s. They had a lot more entrees and sides you could consider 'basic ingredients' and we'd come up with some pretty crazy recipes after spending months in the desert living off of those and T-rations. Seems like the Natick boys are getting back to that, realizing that soldiers are naturally creative and giving them the tools to experiment with.
Hey Steve! Wasn’t sure how to get ahold of you couldn’t find any contact info so I figured I’d comment on here. Back in 2020-21 I hit a low in my life and I won’t go into grave detail but I was preparing to end it all, I laid on my couch with no contact with anyone for a while building up the courage and that’s when I stumbled on to your videos. I found your videos extremely interesting and entertaining, it brought back memories of hanging with my uncle as a kid as he had old vintage war stuff we’d look thru and talk about, that’s where my love for this topic and content came from. Your channel partially saved my life, it occupied and soothed my mind long enough for my family to reach out for help and for me to do the same. Thanks Steve! For real. I binged a ton of episodes when I found the channel last month. I don’t even know why it’s so intriguing. Simple videos, to the point, and no fluff is relaxing.
It's always great to see a new Steve video. Do the people who make MREs watch these videos, too? I can see why they would. Honest critiques by a professional MRE eater would be absolutely invaluable in helping formulate the next generation of rations. The other reason is, for example, someone will watch this and say, "That Chicken Stir Fry project was mine! I knew Steve would appreciate some vegetables with his higher than low level chicken chunks!"
9:42 I love how his description goes from "outrageously good" to "cheap baseball game food stand where none of the food's very good" to "savory, sweet, tart, unbelievably good."

Hey Steve. On the off chance that you read this, I love your honest, informative, and historical content. I was wondering if you’d be willing to review modern meals like from Mountain House or other emergency/camping foods. I know they’re not true MREs or historical rations, but I think it’d be interesting to compare them to rations you’ve had in the past. Stay safe out there.
Not the first time it has been suggested Michael and I will say - absolutely yes. I love Mountain House and doing a review of their stuff could make for some great and informative content. Thanks for the comment and will do. Take care and see ya around.

You've absolutely mastered this delivery. One of the most genuine TH-camrs with impeccable content 👌 and the stability holding up the tray! 😂 excellent.
I think of 2 things when I see these videos: 1, why is this man's voice so soothing? 2, I can't remember a single time when I was in the Marines where I had time to heat up my MRE. Not once. Usually it was eating right out if the pouch at whatever room temp was. Most of the time not even with the spoon, just cut a corner and suck it out. Before doing anything, we would break them down and shove the individual items wherever they would fit and toss the bag. I don't even know what that coffee is supposed to taste like because we were usually just chewing coffee grounds. Anybody else ever have that experience. I was in early 2000s and that was my experience. Let's see Steve eat some cold MREs 😅
New style packaging… WHAT IN THE WIDE WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS IS THAT THING???? Oh this is gonna be interesting. Look how tiny it is. I hope some of them have the old bag. That MRE bag was actually useful for all sorts of stuff. Guys used them almost like ziplock bags for organizing and waterproofing notebooks etc. let’s get this out onto a tray!!!!
I know it's a bit out of the ordinary for your channel, but I loved the first 90 seconds of the video. Have you ever considered doing a video comparing various MRE outer packaging with an eye towards utility and durability and secondary-usefulness?
What a “nice” review, the newest of the new MREs. Always enjoy Steve’s research knowledge on all the ration reviews. And his unapologetic love of all rations is a joy to watch. Thanks Steve!

While mre meals may change my opinion on Steve's videos will always remain the same. 10/10!
Hey right on Josh, thanks man!
nice
Kind of a shame there's no coffee in newer MRE's. The iced tea used to be a "nice" touch.
Was that a Blazing Saddles reference?
If so, you have great taste in movies!
I hope those guys can overcome and adapt to this new packaging well enough! May your p-38 stay sharp! nice, Alright cool, see ya
@@Steve1989MREBack in the day a P38 was essential. Now? A Swiss knife with scissors. No kidding. If you've a loved one in the military, get them one.

@@nomadmarauder-dw9re No kidding, the scissors in Victorinox Swiss Army Knives are the best scissors hands down for all small stuff uses.
Hey mate, I followed you for years. For some reason I lost your page. Just wanted to say I am so glad to see you are still making videos. Much love.
Welcome back Steve, we missed you ❤
Hey Matt it's good to be back man - nice alright cool, see ya
18:33 the cashew quip made me laugh. Favorite part of the video.
nice!
I've got a theory that Steve just uploads a chinese ration video every time he wants to take a break. Just to keep us on our toes.
I’m so glad I have this brand of the ‘tism with all 2.16 million of you
So good to see another vid!! We used to get creative with C’s and 1st Gen MRE’s bavk in the day. We really appreciate what you do!
I know it's a bit out of the ordinary for your channel, but I loved the first 90 seconds of the video. Have you ever considered doing a video comparing various MRE outer packaging with an eye towards utility and durability and secondary-usefulness?
There's over-specialisation, then there's OVER-SPECIALISATION! 🤣🤣
Heya Steve! Always great to see your videos! Hope you’re doing well!
Hey man thanks for stoppin by! Doin great, filming something from 1950 in about an hour. nice alright cool, see ya
On the darkest days, Steve appears as the light. 🙏
Steve ive been watching you for 6 years and i love it. God bless you bub.
What a “nice” review, the newest of the new MREs. Always enjoy Steve’s research knowledge on all the ration reviews. And his unapologetic love of all rations is a joy to watch. Thanks Steve!
If I ever had to have surgery I would hope the surgeon would say “now that his chest is cracked open let’s get this heart out on a tray. Nice”
no hiss?? lol
Babe wake up, it’s time for some bbq beef and Steve. Nice.
My favorite TH-camr… I was going to sleep.. but now I’m watching what Natick Laboratories has cooked up for our boys now! Nice.
Nice! alright cool, see ya
Your videos were my nighttime routine while I had dinner.
Good to see you after a long time man.
Miss the Nice hiss ❤

At work on Thursday I had a bunch of little things to empty out the pantry. Standing in the kitchen, I said “Let’s get this out onto a tray. [I had a plate] Nice.”
Nice!

@@Steve1989MRE nice hiss!
Thank you for what you do preserving bits of history most people never think of
I miss the old days when Steve could enjoy some Coffee Instant type 2 and a Lucky Strike after a rather knarly meal.
Finish the day with a nice, calming pervitin that miraculously wasn't stolen already.
Steve playing Tetris to get everything heated up by one little FRH, priceless.
