- Featuring the all new MRE pouch design, state of the art shelf stable desserts, and a main course that is just out of this world in terms of quality and flavor, this prototype MRE is the pinnacle in Military Rations of the current era. Cuban Beef Picadillo is an outstanding menu, and there might also be a new Thai Red Curry Chicken coming out, as it is another currently in testing. Who knows, but one thing is for certain, these things just keep getting better and better.

The great thing about Steve is that when he talks, it's like he's literally talking WITH you, not AT you. It's legitimately like he's having a conversation with you on the same level, just hanging out. No strange artificial distanced engagement, just a real person.
genuine quality content like youtube used to be.
he's not conceited
They're really getting the fiber in this and I like how they're also getting closer to sliced bread in the meals.
Hey Mumzly! I agree, this one was aiming for that regularity and it's pretty nice actually. Real bread - always a plus, and with safe preservatives especially.
@@Steve1989MRE The MRE bread I've had in the past has always tasted like cake - it's very sugary. This looks a lot more like actual bread.
Not a terrible Idea
I do wonder energy wise how it will effect men. Dietary fibers take away carbs from meals at a 1:1. Fiber may help pass the mres though for the new guys lol
They ARE really getting the fiber AND SODIUM. My heart started aching a little just seeing all those totals.
@@usernamesrlamo Sodium really isn't a problem as far as heart health is concerned. The studies proving that were all deeply, deeply flawed. It appears from my research thusfar that the combination of sugar, saturated fatty acids, and a lack of vitamin K are the real culprit behind at least the sort of hypertension/heart disease that sodium gets blamed for.
I feel so spoiled with how active Steve’s been

That smores bar looks legitimately better than any store bought protein bar that i can think of. What a time to be alive!
You got that right eddy that smores bar was like a cross between a candy bar and some sort of power bar type food... hoping they become commercially available someday as I think they're brilliant!
It reminded me of what the first strike bars look like!
they seem similar to these quinoa bars I get at costco. they don't have a smores flavour, though!
If you have an Aldi near you then I highly recommend checking out their protein bars by Elevation. They're honestly the best tasting protein bars I've had compared to others that are out thete
yep and you probably will never taste it :D

Tarkus appreciator 🙏🏾
Wow! Love that you're able to secure prototypes. If I was in R&D for US rations sending stuff to you would be the obvious win-win scenario.
Steve has some other videos where he films the review ever so slightly differently, and I suspect those ones are for R&D for rations. I forget which ones but they were from about a year ago? In any case, I think between guys like Steve are really adding to R&D beyond the troops' opinions
That was my thought as well; you'd know that every thing would get used, and that you'll receive an honest review.
And plenty of fiber to go.
Really breaking the stereotype with this one.@@laurencek.1580

Glad I didn’t have to scroll too far for this. Him saying that cracked me up.
That part made me lol so hard. It's like he's trying to convince himself that he didn't wait too long to eat it but he just can't accept the lie. He went to all that trouble heating it and then let it cool off. Ah Steve. Such a treasure.
haha! I had to replay that bit .. like .. did he just say that? lol
Steve, I wanted to let you know that this has lifted my spirits. I just went home from the hospital with a life-threatening bacterial infection and am not allowed to do much. Seeing one of your vids pop up has made my day. Thank you.
I hope you feel better soon. I bet it was a relief to get home. Hospitals can be stressful and uncomfortable. I hope you take the time to get some good sun exposure and drink enough water.
Oh hey i did that 12 years ago. Went septic..drug induced coma...skin grafts... all the fun stuff. So glad you got to come home...many of us dont! Hope its all up from here for you. It really does give you a whole new prospective on life. But be very careful and pay attention to signs that its happening again. For some reason we seem to be way more likely to get those major infections again. Take care of you gut health after all the antibiotics. Congrats again!

I discovered Steve shortly after I started living alone. In that period, I would often play a video of his as I sat down for dinner. That way, we'd be having dinner together, in a way. I guess that's why, whenever I watch him, apart from the content itself, I also enjoy the feeling of seeing an old friend. Tonight my wife and I watched Steve together over dinner. Cheers, Steve, it was a pleasure, as always!
that's very cute
I discovered him when I was in college, living alone for the first time. I love watching his videos, he’s like the Bob Ross of food. On a somewhat related note, Chef Jean-Pierre is who finally got me cooking. If you haven’t seen his channel, you have to… he’s amazing!
I still watch his videos when I eat.

Salute this man, for the content he brings.
Whether pemmican from a can to pork with peach rings.
From ration to ration, he vanquishes them all.
With an unwavering passion, never to fall.
Each meal is devoured, while he makes his way.
Not one stands a chance, "Let's get this out onto a tray."
Through perfectly fine chocolate with hardly any bloom, to hard tack with mold.
He always comes back, "with something new or old."
Through fruitless endeavors he pays the price.

Steve, it fills me with a lot of joy to see you putting out content again. Thank you so much for brightening my day with your lovely voice and wonderful content.
In post-Hurricane Katrina weeks here in New Orleans, when I ate many MREs, they were like opening little Christmas presents! On the first Mardi Gras day after Katrina, there were no tourists, just a handful of locals who survived the storm and aftermath and the National Guard who were in town, on duty and awesome! An old buddy and I brought MREs out that day and prepared them in a little park-like area on Decatur Street for our Mardi Gras lunch. It really made the Great Post-Katrina Local’s Mardi Gras Day munch! Through the whole months-long post-Katrina experience, I feel as if I’ve made friends with the mighty MRE, and it would be a pleasure to eat one again, albeit without all of the devastation around me.
Why is it that we love this guy so much. Tried other MRE channel when he's quiet but it's just not the same.
Agreed.

Today was a really rough day, and I was really down. Steve knew, and brought us 18 mins of joy.
I've never liked my picadillo with raisins or even olives (prefer it with potatoes instead, and rice + fried plantains on the side), but for an MRE, this looks pretty alright and the extra stuff probably helps round it out nutritionally. Cuba libre!
I wonder why they couldn't add fried plantain, especially if it's black-ripe, to the menu. The oil and sugars should help it keep longer, wouldn't it? Maybe they just couldn't get a good source of plantain, or maybe this menu already has too many calories from sugars.
Probably because most Americans dont eat Plantain. They make these MRE to try to cater to as broad a group as possible. @@cheyannei5983
I like this menu.

Right new vid and new MRE …
I’m actually kind of hyped for this one. Hopefully it makes it to final production. My go-to’s right now are the chicken burrito bowl and spaghetti with meat sauce. Of course my favorite is the tuna but those usually get snagged as soon as the box gets opened. Honorable mentions are the Mexican style chicken stew and southwest style beef and black beans.
I’ve gotten stuck with the beef ravioli, chicken chunks and creamy spinach fettuccini (this one got taken out as far as I’m aware, but a lot of our stock is older menus). Definitely don’t recommend any of those. Nothing worse than trying to choke down basically frozen spinach fettuccini in 10 degree Fahrenheit weather at 6 am before running STX lanes.
What makes for the best meal? Something that does well if it’s cold?
Why do people want the tuna?
Smores and PBJ look great. I wish in 1987 our MREs had great food like this. We didn't even have a Heater in our MREs. That came out in 1993. I was out in 1991. Hoorah Semper FI

They seem to be forgetting the moral part of rat packs . No chocolate , no sweets/ candies . Being on guard at 4 am in the cold and rain isn’t much fun when there’s nothing much to snack on .

Nice to see you eating something new. This looks like an amazing protype meal and IMHO would be a good replacement for Chicken with Noodles. Thank you for the upload!
It should replace the creamy fettuccine, I like the chicken noodle
Hey Steve great video as usual . Reflecting on my time being homeless, shelters provided warmth and a morning coffee, but the logistical challenges were real - long lines for essential services and the struggle to get enough sleep. What if there was a government program offering 24-hour military-style meals ready to eat, along with bottled water in the morning? This could free up valuable time for attending recovery meetings, therapy, job searches, and interviews. Let's advocate for practical solutions that truly empower those experiencing homelessness.
The sad fact is, that when you talk about Government, they set up too many hurdles and hoops, rules, accountability, that even the most sane, responsible homeless will forgo, and take their chances. Governments always demand payback, in some way, whether it's in labor, data feedback, something. Independent, or religious efforts, from organizations that just want to do the right thing and expect nothing in return, works. Don't expect "what if", from any level of Government.
Gosh, I sure do enjoy these! Thanks for making them!
