Damn you Outside Van! I have had a rear rear hitch carrier shower system in the works for a few months now and wanted to be the first to have it but work and other obligations have slowed me down completing it. I even use the same carrier. I just need the enclosure made. I didnt intend to make any money on it, I just wanted to say I thought of it first. Im actually surprised it took this long - I thought this up a year ago waiting for my van to deliver. My design is a bit different though. Nice van!
I was wondering this as well. I think you could just leave it there. Not really different to a traditional storage rack that is connected via the hitch.
We actually just leave it mounted and take out the wood inserts and store those in the van. You have to take into account the extra length added, but it's not much different than any other hitch mounted rack or platform that people leave mounted 100% of the time. We have been leaving the platform at home when going to shows though, just so we can have more booth space!
We would love to, but it's a bit out of our current capabilities and something we are learning more and more about how to do the right way. There are a lot of considerations to take into account and while we can do part of the builds, there are some aspects of accessibility that we don't currently have the resources for to complete in-house. If you would like to chat about what we can do, please email info[at]outsidevan[dot]com and we can get a conversation going!
Excellent space utilization system. I was wondering where the shower is kept when the car is running. Is it engaged? More shower details would be great!
Thank you! Unfortunately, we do not sell the murphy bed separately. If you do a custom build with us we would be happy to include this in your build! Alternatively, we have our model van Syncline than has the same style murphy bed: outsidevan.com/syncline/
We have just been leaving it on the hitch for out travels, just have to account for the extra length added to the rear when driving around but its not much different from any other hitch mounted rack or tray system.
We are only in the states for now, and we don't currently have a surfer/longboarder build, but our custom team could certain handle one! If you have more questions, feel free to give us a call! 800.971.8830
Looks great. Just needs a locking rear diff to avoid getting stuck when a rear tire and front opposite side tire are not Both on the ground. Watched a video of that situation. The AWD left the van stranded like a tortise.
Yep! The button to release the door sits above the galley and there is just enough room to get your hand behind there and grab the handle. I've opened and closed this slider hundreds of times from the inside and it hasn't been a noticeable issue for me!
Did I understand everything correctly: is it now possible to take a shower only outside? That is, earlier the van could be operated 12 months a year (having a full-fledged shower in the middle of the day), but now only in the summer or when the temperature outside the window is higher than 20 degrees Celsius... Brilliant! If you know your van, you can safely bring vans with a Neon inscription to specialized exhibitions: Under no circumstances should you build vans for a living!
Thank you! As a demo van, a large amount of R&D goes in to vans like Slim Chance. With new engineering and features unlike any other van made before, our demos end up costing more to build.
It's good to see Mercedes have eventually caught up with Ford and started using a modern AWD system instead of there 20 year old 4x4 system. Nice build out.
I will reveal a big secret to you, from 2023 all Mercedes vans have lost the real 4x4 all-wheel drive system. Now these fursogs have become SUVs. Therefore, there is no need to talk about the "intelligent 4x4 system" here. This is cheap marketing and misleading. All that Mercedes vans are capable of now is to be more stable on asphalt and paved roads. All other off-road situations shock the temperature of the diesel engine and brake pads in a matter of minutes. Because Mercedes vans can no longer brake with the engine during long descents (as they did before with a reduced gear, a real 4x4), and the "hill assist" system is only automatic application of the brakes... Which does not control the overheating of the brake pads and possible catastrophic consequences as a result of the complete loss of the ability to stop the van.

where is the packmule stored when not mounted?
love this van and nice presentation

@@stanriner1831 seems a bit bulcky to keep inside. outside would be awkward if just left empty. but its function is great

I feel like I had a small part to play in that teak shower floor. Good job guys! Killer van!
awesome set up
one of the funniest videos. good job.
Fantastic storage system. Great use of space. Nice shower option. Sure wish you made one wheelchair accessible.

The shower tray can be mounted to the hitch at all times!
Looks great! If we wanted to purchase the single Murphy bed system, can we do that? I can’t seem to find that same exact style.

@@OutsideVan that’s a bummer. No worries. I will just have to go with the other single murphy bed. I really liked your look.
That’s a 9/10 van, I like the challenge of a 144 it’s what I’ve got, dual gallery is also the best option, where do you store the shower trail?
We have just been leaving it on the hitch for out travels, just have to account for the extra length added to the rear when driving around but its not much different from any other hitch mounted rack or tray system.
Is there a place to do work inside the van, Swivel seatS?
Love this... is there a surfer/longboarder specific build too? Also, when are you coming to Australia??

While driving (when driving) where is pakmule (the shower tray) stored? It's inside the VAN or on the roof. It wasn't clear!
The idea is that the shower tray is mounted to the hitch at all times! If you want to it can also be stored inside the van.
oh yeah...I luv that baby!

Good point! It's definitely something to consider when designing a custom build for off-roading purposes.
Awesome build! The galley seems to be blocking the sliding door handle though, is it still possible to reach it?

pretty good im no sports person but i love the shower design wonder why more vans dont do that
Can you guys tell us what mount you’re using for the roof cargo box?
It's our own cross bars that we build in house!
@@OutsideVan are they available for purchase?
Can I get one of these that’s not surfing oriented but more camping oriented? Or do you know who I can contact regarding this?

How do u stow away the Pakmule, or is it static?
Dealer's choice! We leave it attached, and take out the teak floor panels and store those in the van during transit.
but where the heck to you store the platform?
The pakmule is designed to stay attached while driving, so we just leave it on!
Does pack mule sell these showers?
Pakmule sells the hitch platform, the wood inserts and shower curtain are made by us!
Seriously where can I actually get one of these? Built like this?
How’s the reliability so far, any dpf issues?
No issues so far!
@@OutsideVan amazing thank you! Btw, what’s your avg mpg now
What size tires and wheels did you put on that?
17" wheels (Black Rhino Atlas) and 265/70R17 (BFG KO2's)
@@OutsideVan - Lastly, who supplied them for you? (FYI: Impeccable choice!)
@@garyo4456 We work directly with the manufacturers on those, they helped sponsor this build!
I see this for sale on the Outside Van site with 6,000 miles and asking $330,000. Not sure how realistic that is. Some clever ideas though.

I WANT A TESLA OUTSIDE VAN 💪❤
😂

maybe you check the difference between 4x4 and AWD and decide if it is a step backwards if you don’t have 4x4.
Wish is carried more water…

Just put the van in lower gear and do it manually when descending
Except that some Mercedes vans are not diesel, but gas.
