    Every time I watch any of your videos, I try and figure out why when I do the exact same thing, it never looks as nice as this. Until I realized the actual quality of the light source and CRI makes a massive difference. Of course using a $10 Chinese tube light is not going to be so flattering on the skin, haha! But lights are so expensive!! What budget lights (like really third world country budget, almost house lights) would you recommend. Next video idea? Lol

    Using a tube light as the key light? Whoa! The idea blew this beginner's mind! Why does everyone else recommend a softbox? This is such a great alternative...

    Great stuff mate. This gives me some good ideas for simply how I intend to light my background for when I'm on Zoom giving photography presentations and/or teaching. That setup is basically a higher-end webcam (but still a webcam), a key light in very limited space, a rim light, and a $hi!!y background that I can't easily change. Ugh. So, a few tweaks to my background lighting should help. The battle I have is that my key light simply cannot be that bright because I need to be able to see my display while teaching Photoshop. The difficulty is the balance between having a good on-camera presence and lighting, while also being able to see the computer screen well.

    Hi Brady - Love the tips! Landed here via Edward's video, you two are both amazing creative professionals 😁. Sorry quick question - How "bad" is it if I have the keylight at 5600K (using Aputure 300x for example) but other light sources are not the same temperature? Or am I overthinking here?
    To clarify, I'm not talking about practical lighting or RIM light, but let's say an overhead light that's also helping light my face (as a fill light)
    Thanks!

    • @stevenuseda6317
      @stevenuseda6317 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably not the best! Unless the 300x is completely overpowering the overhead light. I've had better luck turning off other lights that I can control or matching my key light to the color temp of the other lights in a room

    This video had a lot of interesting info in it. At about the 9:34 mark you brought up a question I've been trying to find an answer to. In reference to the filming when the light is changing outside. I've been in a few situations on a set where the lighting person would change the key light when the lighting changes outside. I'm having some trouble fully understanding why. When the light changed outside, sun goes in the clouds, they would lower the output of the key light. I'm told its to allow for the exposure to stay the same. As a result I'd usually have to up my ISO, something I'd like to avoid doing. My thinking is why would the key light output be increased, rather than decreased, to make up for the loss of ambient light coming from outside? And if it's unavoidable, is there another way to make up for the light lost from outside without changing the key light output?

    • @BradyBessette
      @BradyBessette  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It’s always a difficult question to tackle. Essentially, you want to keep your key light on your subject the same exposure RATIO as the outdoor light. So if your light changes outside you would have to adjust that exposure using iso, aputure, or different ND.
      This could be avoided with proper shoot scheduling to potentially help changing of light as well

    • @MajorXFC
      @MajorXFC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BradyBessette Thank you for your response. Although it makes sense, its still such a difficult concept for me to wrap my head around it. I re-watched your video on getting the perfect exposure using false color, and in there when you mentioned about keeping the light on your subject similar to the ambient light because it looks more realistic... that definitely helped me grasp the concept a bit more.

    Your slash is not in the right parallelogram. You will always know the shape of your slash when you use the top of the window or door to see how the light is cut using it as a natural topper. Titan tubes and nx bulbs are not cheap but if you’re wanting a nice led light to use with good color, it’s nice to have for a run and gun. I will say these are nice efficient ways to be cheap when lighting. 👍🏾

How come that 2 different cameras gives 2 different exposure with exact the same settings??, my face was 2-3 stop overexposed by the Canon G16 powershot and the Nikon d800 full frame it was perfect exposed. Does sensor size matter when you measure light? I used only 1 softbox, it had a bulb inside and this was my only light in the room my keylight and both cameras was set on Manual mode.
