We're lovin our 1977 grandpa bear stove. Its been an excellent addition to our home. Its got a few rusty spots but overall its in great shape.

I just acquired a Teddy Bear Fisher Stove , and I'm going to restore it this same way. Your Stove turned out beutiful, and thus confirmed I'm on the right track. Thank you!

A product called Ospho works fantastic for something like this

what if one applied that stuff without removing all the rust?

Great video. Hopefully someone can help me out here. I fired up my Grandma Bear last week and have been researching the use of a baffle however the one question I have is when I insert a 5/16 baffle do I leave a space between the baffle and the back of my firebox where the side pipe comes in? I'm told I should use a 21.5 in wide by 9 in wide plate with a half inch flange facing up on the front of it.
    Thanks

baffle should sit hard against the back of fire and leave a gap of a couple of inches at front where flames go between.
idea of a baffle is it keeps the heat in the firebox otherwise you lose a lot of heat straight up the chimney

@@pyromaniac354well,yeah,but you still need your chimney to keep a good hot temperature to reduce creasote buildup. My grandpa bear stove is a 1977 model with no baffle. I just use a damper about 1 foot above the stove in the pipe. Heats our entire home (1200sqft) effortlessly and still keeps the chimney halfway clean. My understanding of the baffle is that it was an attempt to force the smoke to reburn, before the advent of reburn fresh air tubes.

What does your baffle look like?
