    Soap added to the water will make a absolutely slick finish. Glass glazing we use hundreds of tube of silicone. I talked about this on a radio show for home owners trying to caulk their glass and tile showers.

    Never occurred to me to caulk between the gaskets and paint, but it makes perfect sense (I use caulk in my job all the time- construction).
    Clear GE Silicone is the way to go. Use regular white masking tape on the gasket (to bullseye it accurately) and light or dark tape (to contrast with the particular paint color of your truck.
    I put flares on fenders that had uneven surfaces from being sideswiped. Using clear kind of fools the eye into looking at the flares and not the bent up sheet metal. Not showroom perfect- but I wasn't about to buy a whole new bed.
    Buy a caulking gun (10-20 bucks) to inject deep into the gap, allowing more to slightly run up and onto the tape. I use a rounded stainless tool for scraping away the excess, but an old butter knife will do. Have an old newspaper cut into squares for wiping off the knife every couple of inches as you're tooling.
    Pull the tape off IMMEDIATELY after or you'll have a mess doing it later. Wear disposable gloves and toss em after each flare.
    Tip #101: start with the part of the truck you NEVER look at- the right rear. If it comes out a little funky- so what. You learned what NOT to do on the next one.

    When you applied the tape on the truck and flares, I couldn’t see in the video but was there a fine line gap between the tape that allowed you to put the silicone on the truck between the flare and truck itself or did you literally apply the silicone on the actual tape at truck and flare interface and by wetting the silicone, the tape just simply pulled out from underneath and the adheres to the truck? Thanks!

      Vivid Racing , thank you and one more question, I’m going to install the Rough Country Riveted Fender Flares on my 2016 Sierra, they come with the rubber gasket that is actually visible when installed (unlike those Pro Comps I guess). Can you still do the small silicone bead at the gasket to truck interface? Will this help the gasket “stick” better to the truck and allow the bead to seal and help prevent salt, dirt, water, mud, debris, etc. from getting in between the flare and truck causing rust issues in the future? Thanks for your input!

    • @vivid_racing
      @vivid_racing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielkukoly6567 Pro Comp comes with a rubber gasket and it just looked stupid. So I did the silicone after the fact. Not sure on the Rough Country if you have to cut the existing fenders like we did on the Tundra. If you do have to cut the metal, then you can even spray some paint on them so its not exposed. We did something very similar on our Mercedes CLA45 - www.vividracing.com/blog/vivid-racings-mercedes-cla45-fairy-design-build/
      I would test fit it with the gasket first and see how you like it.

    As i am doing my research PPF film will break down over time due to wear and weather conditions so I'm not going that route but I'm considering doing your method instead..... questions do you use the rubber seal that comes with most flares or you don't use the seal at all in your method , do you add more of the sealant to push more into the flares so it covers most of the flare lip that sits on the fenders, what black sealant did you use , how well is it holding up ?

    • @vivid_racing
      @vivid_racing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The rubber seal is good to use if you plan on taking them off down the road. However the silicone looks cleaner. Hopefully you dont have to much of a gap as this should really be an aesthetic. This is regular black silicone from Lowes or Home Depot you would use on trim from DAP. It has held up fine!

      @@vivid_racing Front and back or just front that’s for Pro Comp and Dura Flex, comparing

      Why did you choose Pro Comp. ?

    • @vivid_racing

      We do not carry duraflex. We chose pro comp because of the high quality construction, requires little body work, panels aren’t wavy like cheaper brands, etc..

      @Vivid Racing I'm considering getting the bushwackers i know they have the seal but as others have stated about rubbing problems i wondering if you don't use the seal and run a bead of silicon and do the same method you did would that stop from rubbing issue and seal from any water/dust/dirt getting in ?
