    "We got... Issues."
LOL! I didn't realize when I requested this that there was going to be a pun happening. That was pretty funny.
Although I rate the song much, much higher than you do, I still appreciate your review, David, especially since you acknowledged that there was quality songwriting happening. The thing about the band Issues is that they have a whole unique way of approaching Metalcore which is to fuse it with R&B. That's why the vocals are the way they are. It's very different and I was wondering how you were going to feel about it.
The band actually used to have two vocalists: Tyler Carter (who is the one singing here) and Michael Bohn who was the second vocalists that used to do the "grit & growl". By the time the album this track "Drink About It" came from, "Beautiful Oblivion" was made, Bohn wasn't in the band anymore. So almost all the songs on "Beautiful Oblivion" were made with clean R&B vocals from Carter. This was a little controversial among some fans of Issues because they wanted the "grit & growl". I listen to plenty of Metalcore and have really enjoyed Issues' previous work but personally, I think that it only helped the band's sound unique sound by getting rid of the unclean vocals or at least reducing the amount of it in the whole album. The fact that the band was already fusing Metalcore with R&B in the instrumentation and songwriting only made sense to me to do the majority of the vocals clean. But since the release of this album, Tyler Carter is no longer with the band Issues so it'll be very interesting to see where Issues goes vocal-wise for the next release, whenever that is.
I think what Issues is doing is really innovative. You said that the song didn't hook you but it really did hook me. They are taking something which shouldn't work (i.e. fusing Metalcore with R&B) and somehow making it work. This approach has the potential I think to help bring in more people into Metal, Metalcore and Rock in general and even make Rock music in the U.S. mainstream again. I can see that some traditionalists might be turned off by it because it does go against the grain so much but you need to shake things up sometimes and I love how Issues has been going about doing that. Next time I'll request a track of theirs that includes unclean vocals along with the clean ones and we'll see then if you still have any... Issues. 😄

Awe man I'm sad this song was your introduction. They do harsh/screaming mixed with his great clean vocals the majority of their songs except for their new album which is kind of mid compared to the rest of their work. If you ever go back I recommend checking out coma, mad at myself or hooligans. :)

Hey, Derek! I'm actually the one that requested this. I'm also one of the Issue fans that actually loved "Beautiful Oblivion". 😁 Even though I love "Drink About It", I knew that it could've gone either way with David on it but that's why I think it was important for him to check this out to see where he would fall on a song like this of theirs. He still gave it a score of "really good" though. Next time I'll request a track of theirs that includes unclean vocals along with the clean ones.

@@NomadFlow The songs a vibe for sure. This or rain are probably the best songs on the album. Since Michael Cohen is no longer in the band they remind me more of Tyler's solo work.
