    A vegetarian protein to add to the salad is sprouted beans (moong, red, moth etc). Sprouting reduces the carbs in beans and increases the protein.

      Avocado would also be a vegetarian protein source to incorporate.

    too many people are unaware but the Kale stem is the world's best folate source known to man!
    I never get rid of the stem; just chop it up and enjoy the fiber and crunchiness.

    I made both salads, and they were equally delicious. Had no Kale, used Dandelions, Italian parsley and lots of Cilantro. Used brown mustard. I added Marsala spice. Mahalo for the basic recipe, and the inspiration.

    Am I missing the amounts to use? I get that it's a cup of olive oil, but is it 2/3 cup of lemon juice and mustard? I get that I should use 2 tablespoons of turmeric powder, but how much ginger?

    • @MelissaThompson432
      @MelissaThompson432 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The acid is 1/3 the amount as the oil. He basically eyeballed it, but this is what it looked like to me:
      1 c oil
      1/4 to 1/3 c lemon juice
      2 t (+/-) Dijon mustard
      1 t garlic
      1t ginger
      2T turmeric
      And again, those amounts look to all be "-ish" amounts....

      @melissa Thompson my notes are similiar to yours. 4tbs =1/4 cup

    I added some cracked black pepper ( synergy with tumeric) and poured some dressing over poached eggs.
    I'm going to try it over tofu then baking it.
    Great job!
    Going to be my daily go to...dips, soup base and even going to try in a green smoothie and with Kale chips and popcorn.
    I am obsessed!

    The anti inflammatory properties of Turmeric are only activated when combined with ground black pepper. An enzyme in the pepper activates Curcumin which is the anti inflammatory property in Turmeric. Without this it is just flavour and colour. Curcumin is also found in Cumin which can be substituted if Turmeric doesn't suit you. But must be combined with ground black pepper for benefit.

    • @rmack5790

    • @katherineharris3668
      @katherineharris3668 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@rmack5790 I have used varying amounts of black pepper according to taste. But usually a very good amount in anything that will take a lot of pepper like a curry. There is no specific amount, just some to activate the properties of the Turmeric. I always work on "the more the merrier"!

    For added protein on top of the few in plants to a "requested vegetarian meal", add nuts. It is a rich source of healthy protein and healthy fat. He can also add sprouted beans, which are rich in protein and low in carbs. You asked for a vegetarian meal so why add mercury from a dead fish? You didn't ask for a pescatarian meal. How are you going to scold him for doing exactly what you asked? No one is going to get protein-deficient from that healthy meal because we don't have a protein problem in this country (people overeat protein), we have a fiber problem. Too much protein is not good for your kidneys.

    • @phatmonkey11
      @phatmonkey11 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He put nuts in. You could use just regular beans. Low carb was not one of the rules for the salad. He didn't put any fish in the salad, so no rules broken. Get your knickers out of a twist.

    I’ve learned it’s important to lightly steam cruciferous veggies for just a minute! Not longer. The body can digest better & absorbs vits/minerals.

      Iggi Barratto No, only when heated too long. As long as bright color still there and veggies remain crunchy, they are worth eating. Not to be steamed but a minute. Have steam going, add veggies, remove by 1 min.

      Bret Lynne Yes, you need black pepper. In fact many foods are more bioavailable with pairings. Some foods are better for you fermented too, like cabbage.

      K Channel totally! It’s like she’s giving him a job review, when he came on the show to inspire people. The point is to show variety so that people can go and do their own thing. It would have been so much more helpful if she was adding suggestions rather than reviewing his dish.

    Black pepper is supposed to be paired with the turmeric, in order for the turmeric to be effective. Where is the black pepper in this recipe?

  • @TC-vq6yz
    @TC-vq6yz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Chef Kass asks how else we would use the dressing, I like to add olive oil and water to dressing, extra spice for the meat, and use it as a chicken marinade. Cut the chicken to bite size pieces for better coverage, marinade, fry the skinless chicken in a pan on the stovetop, crisp the outside to seal in the marinade.

    Also, if black pepper is added to the turmeric dressing, the absorption of anti-inflammatory properties in the turmeric is magnified.

      Why?

    • @Eidann63
      @Eidann63 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theaccidentalsenior Black pepper's anti-inflammatory properties enhances the absorbtion of turmerics anti-inflammatory properties by about 2000X. ☺ Makes it much more available to the body, when you combine them. Remenber mixing turmeric with oil or a meal with oil helps greatly as well. Without fats/oil turmeric is much much less effective.
