- Scott Galloway, MBA 92, is an exemplar of an innovative leader. One of the World Economic Forum’s Global Leaders of Tomorrow, which recognizes 100 individuals under the age of 40 whose accomplishments have had impact on a global level, his video series Winners & Losers, has garnered the attention of viewers globally. In 2012, he was named One of the World's 50 Best Business School Professors by Poets & Quants. He is the founder of the digital performance company L2; he also founded the internet-based consumer gift retailer, Red Envelope and the global marketing consultancy, Prophet Brand Strategy. This inspiring talk is part of the Berkeley-Haas Dean’s Speakers Series.
What a great answer to the monopoly question. So thankful for Scott Galloway in giving these talks and Berkeley for hosting.

I love his insight and his L2 inc. TH-cam channel.. such good information. Had no idea he was involved with Haas! I did undergrad Haas but didn't learn about him till 8 years after i left!

Wish he'd commented on their Amazon Prime services (inc recently introduced home delivery), which is what makes me question how old this is...
He explains things the way he interprets the data in digestible language, which makes him right, about 52% of the time.
I am really curious about his thoughts on the future of medicine and the medical field.

What does L2 Do exactly, I've read on their site what they do, but I don't fully understand it.

Did he really compare Market cap to GDP of Canada !!!! ?? GDP is a flow variable ( on a per year basis ) while Market cap is a stock variable ( lifetime accumulated value of these 4 companies )
Please compare relevant metrics only !!

Scott Galloway knows the difference between GDP & Market Cap. The metrics of Market Cap vs. GDP were simply used to illustrate his point that never have so few people produced this much economic value and held so much influence.
Ashish Patira either way, it's still impressive. Apple has more liquid cash than the GDP of my country. It isn't really comparing apple with apples but it's still super impressive, regardless of what's being compared.

I don't get why he doesn't think 3D printing will do well? Why would people own computers or 2D printers?
And what 'gamer' doesn't want a VR headset?
Hm... I'm a gamer that has no interest in VR.
There's several people who aren't interested, or don't see it to be something worth while and crazy expensive currently. I was around when they tried to pull VR off 15 years ago and it flopped because the technology was too far before its own time.
Also: vertigo. motion sickness. And a stupid movie called Surrogates...
To me that sort of sounds like saying you want your games in black and white, not colour, because colour TV is expensive and doesn't seem worthwhile. (Not that every game is necessarily made better by VR).
Why aren't you interested? I'm guessing motion sickness, etc, can be minimized or overcome.
coolbanana165 i think its mostly in their current incarnations, both are cumbersome for a home use, lack content/models, and brittle ...both easily being replaced by newer generations or 3rd party providers like shapeaways ( who prints high resolution, ceramic, metal). vr and ar are coming but its more likely a smartphone like apple will be at the core, as it needs an app ecosystem to take advantage of it
In what way cumbersome? You're not supposed to be juggling with them. ;)
They lack content because they are quite new, and many things are easily replaceable (Laptops, phones, etc).
I'm not sure what advantage a smart phone gives considering it isn't made for the job. What do you need apps for in VR, and why have a whole phone on your face for AR, rather than one small bit of glass like Google Glass? :)

outside of maker/geeks, they are large, no wants one in any room outside the garage, they generally don't print that often or that high quality so are limited in actual usefulness so right now most everything being printed are widgets gizmos and style like lampshades or pendants.
To print a functional laptop needs 3d printing circuits which is possible but not yet common. I'm sure in 10 years it will be a different picture.
smart phones are being made for the job. They have economies of scale and people like apple who's business depends on it to replace declining unique selling proposition on a smart phone. The future of phones and VR googles won't look any different than normal eyeglasses in a few years.
Mentorship is great. Scott, you're wrong about 3D printing. I have a vision that your gonna have to recognize.
