We do have oil in the UK. Unfortunately though the government let private companies at it so we get none of the money :/

The funny thing is the UK kinda got scammed out of the north sea oil when they drew up shares around the countries we had a very good idea were oil could be found which nettet us so much of the total oil in the north sea.

As someone who have worked on ships within the north sea oil industry for several years, I can tell you there is plenty of oil in UK. I was staying a lot in both Scotland and England back in 2013-2014. Otherwise I have mostly been working in Norway.

Its not enough to simply discover oil but how you handle it. Other “petro states" such as Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Algeria,Iran have oil reseves much larger than Norway but typically falls into the Dutch disease trap. The pension fund mentioned in the video annual revenues investments (or non-investments- depending) actually usually exceed the income from Norway’s annual oil sales.

Norway has almost 6 million inhabitants. On the distant islands there are not so many. A few hundred permanent residents. Norway has plenty of space. We have had a rich history. Fun facts are, as I said, that a Norwegian found America long before Columbus. The Indians long before that too. There are approximately 8 million Americans with Norwegian ancestors who live in the USA. Some also live in Canada and Mexico. The borders were a bit more flexible in those days. Vacation is not free, but the employer saves some of the salary for vacation, so that you have something to use during the vacation, because everyone must have at least 3 consecutive weeks of vacation and 2 flexible weeks. There are also no polar bears on the mainland, only on Svalbard.

Just up the road from 3 swords thing is a naval base. As a cadet on a visit we (me and a couple of mates) once broke the rules and bought a stack of beer (being in uniform the shopkeep thought we were older than we were) and got very drunk leaning up against the swords. Happy days.

Are you actually unaware of the UK being pumping more oil equivalents from the North Sea than Norway?

  • @imortaliz

You do have oil. But you can thank Thatcher for just giving it away to private companies. She came into power at the worst possible time for the UK. I think you have bigger oil fields than we do in Norway but we are far less people

Ragnar Loðbrok was Danish and most likely not a real person as he was mostly a legend told in stories.

I did at my school. It's pretty good imo, although it looks scary. The head has a lot of different types of meat on it and it's really tender

if you wanna know more about the uk oil, watch Why The UK Lost Its Oil Wealth (And Why Norway Didn't) by business casual

  •  ปีที่แล้ว

Really? You did not know that the UK is the 19'th of the worlds largest oil (195 countries in the world) producing countries in the world? Your government must be hiding your money then😂
