Hey Brian, thank you for the video. I found this video because I feel like my ev battery on my 16 a3 e trim is about to be dead. When I take that in for service Audi told that I have to replace the 12v before they can move any further, and they are trying to charge me 700 usd. My e tron is battery should still be under 8 yr warranty. I want to do it myself, but I don’t know if that would void my warranty.
Nice video! My 2016 A3e 12v battery gave up the ghost this past Sunday. I didn't even realized it had a 12v "real car" battery. Unfortunately, I already told Audi NS to replace it before seeing your post. After seeing your neighborhood in the video, and the air temperature on your dash, I'm like, hey, he must live here in the Valley also lol I bought mine CPO back in 2017, so I guess I didn't do too too bad with the original battery, given the conditions we drive in.
@@MSH3423 I love mine, but must confess that the electric range is a joke (although enough for my daily, very modest commute). Honestly, for your purposes, I'd look for a used Prius.
@@benbhand always drove economic and affordable toyota and honda in my life... trying to upgrade to entry level luxury like a3 etron or bmw 330e ..... but ROI is not adding up. Haha everyone is telling me to stay with Toyota or Honda
How do you get the old battery out. I've taken the hold down off and it's like it's glued in place.i notice your battery was already out so I'm hoping u can tell me what I've missed. I've done everything in the video thus far.
Is the VCDS step a necessity? I don’t really know how to do any of that and would prefer to not have to do that. Also dont want to pay $800 for Audi to isntall it
Hi there. Today my A3 Etron started acting out. There are messages saying the battery cannot charge, a/c doesn't work, car cannot drive fast, etc. Is this a symptom my 12 v battery is dead?
It doesn't sound like it unfortunately since the a/c is run off the high voltage battery and not the 12v. To rule out the 12v battery, you could take a multimeter and measure the voltage at the approved jumper terminals under the hood. Hope this helps
It's very stupid that disconnecting the battery and you loose all the setting I thought that the battery is just a backup for engine and electrics when the ev battery dies
thanks so much for making this. there's literally no info on how to DIY the 12 volt. Would you know if reprogramming is needed if I just want to disconnect power temporarily (not replacing the battery)? I'm trying to replace my steering and want to cut off power for the airbags.
@@bryanmabbott Thanks for all the useful info. Would you know if reprogramming is needed if you change the battery with the same type of battery currently installed?
@@mariusgeorgescul It's recommended to reprogram the car because it alters the charging characteristics to maximize life of the battery and fuel economy. When the battery is new, it has a higher capacity so the car doesn't have to recharge it as often and not as high of a voltage. As time goes on, battery capacity diminishes so it'll charge it more frequently and at a higher voltage. Is it necessary to reprogram? Not really as the car will see the battery as an "old" battery which acts more 'conservatively' compared to when it's reprogrammed as a new battery.
Omg finally I found a video showing me the vcds coding process. Thx, this was great. I owe you a bunch of coffees for this one.
Thanks 👊🏼 I was trying to figure out where that battery was on this car.😂

How reliable are these cars? Im looking for a commuter car around LA

How do you find out the battery manufacturer value? I bought a Interstate AGM H5 battery and not sure how to find the value for this manufacturer.

@@fn8-v4309 Sorry for the late reply. No programming is needed if you're not changing the battery.
