The violinist is amazing! I had never seen her before, but now I will definitely follow her. My favourite version of the Arensky trio on TH-cam. BRAVO!

Arensky is what Tchaikovsky would have sounded like composing chamber music if he had been able to stomach composing chamber music. Tchaikovsky detested the idea of a Piano Trio (even though with grave doubts he would finally write one) but was a huge influence on Arensky (whose resentful teacher Rimsky Korsakov said of Arensky that he would be a nobody because of it) so if you want to know how Tchaikovsky would have sounded had he been able to do good chamber work, ironically you must listen to Arensky.

By the way I don't like the Tchaikovsky piano trio so much as this one. This Arensky piece is so inspired...

Bravo! Expertly and sensitively played! One question: Was the microphone a lot farther from the piano than from the other instruments? Often in chamber music, an open grand piano sounds excessively loud, but the opposite is true here. The details of the complex piano score don't always come through clearly. Mr. Nel is magnificently playing millions of notes, but we don't hear them all.
Arensky may be an underappreciated composer, so thank you for this.

Her violin does sound like a cello. If I did not see the video, I would think it’s the cello doing the solo for the first few bars
