Ya but not have been able to party for almost 2 weeks on the governments dime. Next time keep it under a week was a common thing.
We had guys on a flight that didn't show them on the manifest at all. Bird did a crew layover and was parked in a secure area under armed guard. Crew left with the explicit instructions for our guys to NOT show themselves. Well one of our guys decided to take a peak out the window and was seen by the SPs. They had them all prone'd out with loaded M16s trained on them. While radioing to get the aircrew back to the plane ASAP. It took a few calls to "people who didn't officially exist" to get that squared away. LOL
When I was in JSOC (81-83) as a Marine we did indeed have orders that basically let us go anywhere in the world and do anything. Every quarter we were given new blanket orders with the updated funding data.

PFC Whitey was a cook but no one besides my gunny knew who I was or what I was and I wasn't slinging chow. I was slinging lead. I was thought to be a grunt. One day the SOG comes rolling through our hooch asking if anybody can drive. I said I could. He told me to drive a local freight truck. I hop in and this monkey truck has three different gear shifts and everything is written in German. I got it moving and after that it was simply assumed that I could drive anything so I did. I drove all kinds of vehicles. Back then the war hadn't gone insurgent so we were driving humvees without doors on them. We took them off on purpose. We drove LVSs and 7-tons without armor hauling fuel. It really was the wild west at that time. We'd get told to go bring BootCamp Bravo some piece of gear and we'd drive across the city in one truck. Do you understand what I'm saying? I'm telling you that I drove around an urban combat zone in a truck without doors made of aluminum foil without any escort or support. Fast forward three years and on my 3rd and last deployment CPL Whitey had his own truck modified to my specifications. Hell I even put a sound system in that bitch that could play an iPod. It was a two-man high-back humvee that I personally welded the armor on. She was a tank. She was a mobile field kitchen. The Chuck Wagon. She flew The Jolly Roger on her antenna. I drove that beast all over The Al Aanbar Province. I loved that truck. Well one day the company gunz walks into my hooch and asks me for my military driver's license so he can log it for some accountability thing. I told him I had never had one. He looked at me like he was shitting a gold brick. He was astounded. He asked how the hell was given my own truck if I'm not rated to operate it. I was ibreaking military law. Punishable by The UCMJ. I told him no one ever asked or told me not to drive so I did what was needed. He said we never had the conversation and I was to carry on.

I believe it. You didn't really even need to be SOF to just show up to the AF terminal to jump on a plane and go somewhere. Air Force gate guards aren't really concerned about where you go. They'll question you, but if you say, "i'm allowed", its not like they'll call your command to confirm anything. If you get caught going places you aren't supposed to be, that's on you.
