  • 10 things you NEED TO KNOW about paid truck driving school BEFORE you attend a paid truck driving school!
0:13 #1. There is no guarantee that you will have your CDL by the end of your course.
1:05 #2. Believe it or not, the goal is NOT to teach you how to drive the truck!
2:16 #3. You CAN learn everything they're going to teach you ON YOUR OWN!
3:42 #4. In some states, you don't HAVE TO go!
4:47 #5. Are the instructors just teachers? Or are they actual truck drivers, or at least ex truck drivers?
7:35 #6. What are the sizes of their classes?
9:13 #7. How much wheel time/ seat time will you be getting?
9:39 #8. What is the likelihood of passing your test and getting your CDL ON TIME?
10:35 #9. What happens if you fail?
11:44 #10. Does the trucking school have relationships with potential employers?
I hope you get value... if you do, don't forget to smash the like button! ✌

Don't forget to stay away from the cool crowd while at school. Remember, you aren't there to make friends or hangout, you are there for one reason only: to get your CDL.

CDL Training Spot, That's great advice, You're only there for about a month or little after and studying and preperation is critical, I was in cdl school with students who absolutely had no business being there, The one thing that you have to remember is even though you might meet some people in school who seem ok you're there for one reason and that's to get your cdl, Don't get the mindset that these are co-workers, A lot of these people if not all you'll never see again.

It was over 25 years ago when I took a 6 week course to get my CDL. I'm not joking or exaggerating when I say what an absolute joke. I could not believe when I was handed the papers that said I passed. I had no clue whatsoever how to drive safely, none. I was taught how to shift a few gears and drive the route of the road test. That's it, I was not taught him w to be a safe driver. The medical was just as much of a joke. There was about 20 of us and we all had our papers filled out in a half hour. The doctor asked if was colour blind, then signed my medical with all information filled out even though he did not give me an examination.
I was so shocked was reluctant to apply for jobs. Thankfully I found a place who knew I was a rookie and took the time to properly train me.

I’m responding from my wife’s account, and I’ve had my cdl since 2012. I attended San Jacinto Community College truck school here in Tx and honestly I would have to say they were some damn good teachers. They taught me how to drive a truck and not just for dmv purposes. They were old school drivers that were about putting you through the experience and real life situations. Going out in the rain, school zones, freeways, stories about the good the bad and the ugly about OTR and all that good stuff. We didn’t go thru the dmv route until a few days before the test. I’m thankful for the instructors I had because it definitely made me a damn good driver. Just my experience

And that was on top of the $200 that you already had to pay for your skills test. I passed my first try because I was determine to come home with that class A. With that being said, I still needed more time. I drove a city bus and tour bus for the last 18 years, and trucking is a whole different ball park, with a trailer.

To add.. the novice doesnt know how intense and heavy the learning load is of obtaining a Cdl. It can also be stressful due to long days, impatient instructors and fellow students constantly watching. Go when your stress levels are as low as possible, you'll learn faster & get through faster

You're completely correct. It's the same with any new job you go to school to get. You go to school to get 'basics'. Once you get hired, your company has to 'train' you how to actually do that job. It takes 2-3 years before you truky know your job.

Trucking carrier sponsored truck driver training is a wise choice in addition to community college truck driver training. But in my home state, community college truck driver training is very limited. I did undergo truck driver training about 19 years ago. It was through Employment Development Development that was state sponsored training. That was at no cost to me. But it was a rush in and out of there type of school. One instructor was hollering at me when I wasn't operating the truck properly when I was learning to drive in a truck yard. "You better figure out a way to learn real quick because the class isn't going to wait for you when you were struggling to learn." "YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!" was what I remember being told when I wasn't learning the information that I had to learn by a trucking instructor. Even a former student in the class which I crossed paths with after I quit the training had said even he disapproved of one instructor hollering at me for struggling with trucking driving. Pride Trucking based in Utah is a trucking business that provides their students with 2 months of not only class instruction but behind the wheel instruction as well. They treat their drivers exceptionally. Plus I noticed that they provide incentives for earning licensing, passing tests which have to be earned in order to become a truck driver. Maybe they pay for housing, meals while at their school as well. All are different. Some thrive on being rushed in and out trucking school. Others prefer a slower, more patient approach by the instructors at the school. Best wishes to all future truck drivers pursuing training, truck driving careers.

Make sure you definitely take the driving part of the test with a standard! Do not allow the school to talk you into only doing the automatic. A friend of mine did that and now she has a restriction on her license because of it! Of course the school wants more money so she can take the standard. Luckily we own a trucking business and we are going to let her use our truck. And so a little update to So a little update to this comment from a few months back. Since the new laws have went into affect as of February 7. There’s even more information to the issue above. If you have a restriction on your license because of the standard. Please note. That if you have that restriction on your license you no longer can borrow a friends truck and go to the DMV and take your test. You absolutely must go to a school to get that restriction removed. At the school that I am taking right now for my ELDT training there’s two guys in my class that have restrictions on their license. This is here in the state of Nevada. But the rules apply to every single state in the United States. Each one of these guys had to pay $1800 to get this restriction removed. They have to go through all of their maneuvers once again. And they have to do behind the wheel training on the road with a standard truck. Before they can go to the DMV. You cannot use your own truck. You cannot use your friends truck. You must use the truck from the trucking school. If they are third-party testing facility even better then you don’t need to go to the DMV they will test you right at the school but please know. You will pay a couple thousand dollars to get that restriction off. So I can’t emphasize enough. If you are a new driver. Do not get that restriction on your license. Man up and get your license with the standard. Good luck everybody! And please subscribe to my channel. I upload a new video every week on my journey to becoming a chick truck driver.❤️

@Aldazia Degraffenreid oh and one more thing since I’ve been in school this last month here in Nevada I found out how much it cost to get the restriction off of your license. My school that I go to charges $1800 to get the restriction off which includes them teaching you how to drive the standard and providing you the vehicle to take the testing. At the DMV you have to do all of the maneuvers again as well as the road test in order to get the restriction removed. So that is why it’s a good idea to just get your license with the standard right off the bat. Otherwise you’ll end up paying more in the long run.

I felt the person was very informative and helpful, and an advocate for the student as well as promoting good practices for schools.
