- This video was done shortly after I rebuilt the engine in my 1983 XJ6. I have owned this car for 20 years and it is my daily driver. In the past few years, once it was no longer our only car, I started changing things about the car to make it more entertaining.
Starting with keyless entry, then the 5-speed Getrag, and on to the Megasquirt and coil-on-plug ignition. Since I used the car for daily transportation, I did the mods in a somewhat sporadic fashion, and like all such projects it is a work in progress. I still have to clean up things in the engine bay and need to find a cleaner looking air cleaner assembly. I am also still tinkering with the fuel settings. It works acceptably, but I think I can make it better.
The Megasquirt engine management system is extremely cool. All of the fuel and ignition curves and other parameters are available for you to modify as necessary. All you need is a computer and a program such as Tuner Studio. I bought my Megasquirt from DIYautotune.com as a kit. The kit requires decent soldering skills, but the unit is also available as an assembled and tested kit.
The guys at DIYautotune are great to work with, and their website is full of interesting things. You can also access the Megamanual through their site. This will tell you just about anything you want to know about engine management.
