Playing Spanish/Latin/classical fingerstyle guitar really is all about the right hand. Classical guitar has a lot of right hand techniques but flamenco guitar techniques are much more numerous, varied and consequently more exciting and fun to play!
In this lesson I run through every technique you will ever come across in Spanish guitar. We review what they are called, why we use them and how to use them and in what situations to use them as well. knowing these and practicing these will help you get the most out of nylon string guitar playing and make you prepared for any musical situation. The techniques that we use in the left hand are not specific to Spanish or nylon fingerstyle guitar, rather they are general techniques that you need for any style of guitar playing on any type of guitar, therefore they are not addressed here.
These are a lot of techniques however there's only 3 techniques which I consider essential for the right hand. I will show you how to play these correctly and efficiently in my technique workshop...
In my free technique workshop I'm going to show you:
-The 3 secret (but easy) concepts that most guitarists don’t know about.
-The 3 right hand techniques you need to know to learn and enjoy the nylon string guitar.
-How to excel on nylon string in only minutes a day, instead of the endless hours most people think it takes.
-A targeted exercise I have developed to quickly work on over 90% of the right hand techniques we ever use in only a few short minutes!
…And you’ll get my 15-page “Nylon String Quick Start Guide” outlining all the right hand essentials.

Really instructional and helpful. I took classical guitar decades ago, and starting up again. It was good for me to find you. It clarified. so much and no unnecessary fluff. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!

Well, with all the superlatives being cast upon you, as you well deserve, what can I say? I love your approach and manner to making Spanish Guitar technique accessible to everyone, Even, us oldies! I always learn something from you. Thanks Scot!
I must have missed this comment! Thank you
I will be watching this a few hundred times. Thank you for the lesson. I'll try to use it well.
Wow, pretty much all basic covered in a short vid! Thanks so much!
Glad I can help!
Best classical guitar I've seen so far!🎉
Outstanding techniques. Just what I needed.
Nice!
Amazing Lesson...!! thank you for sharing your expertise...!!
My pleasure!
'Tirare', in this case, means 'to pull', rather than 'throw', I think. Same in Italian, BTW.
Thx for this! It’s very informative!
I play with a thumb-pick, so i can’t do them all, but there’s more than enough here for me to work on!
Great! I think the alzapúa technique could be done with a thumb pick at the right angle
@@TheVersatileGuitarist
Might be tricky, but I’ll try.
I am forced to use a thumb pick because my right thumbnail is defective where it refuses to grow out. So I adopted Chet’s thumb-pick habit.
Not that I don’t like it, because I do, but a few decades ago I took some classical lessons and my teacher was a PURIST, and he DESPISED my thumb pick!
I couldn’t beak the thumb pick habit, even if I tried, though. It’s been burned into my brain for probably 40 or 50 years. As they would say in Star Wars “The thumb-pick is strong in this one!”
Excellent !👍👍👍👍❤❤❤
Phenomenal!
EXCELLENT!
Another golpe style is to hit above the strings with the first knuckle of your index finger (then follow through with your index to play the chord) - e.g, when playing an F or E chord....
Yep I forgot that one probably because I hate doing it because it always hurts my knuckle!
Merci
wow 😁😁
What's this peace called 6:07
Nice video btw i enjoyed it a lot ❤️
That’s nothing specific, just some chords in A Phrygian
do you have some tips how to practice rasqueados on steel string?
I wouldn’t recommend that you will shred your nails! So I guess my tip would be to just hit the strings more lightly than you would on nylon strings.. I also think shorter nails would be better for steel strings
@@TheVersatileGuitarist thanks i am trying to find some to make some nice tone. and i am using super short nails anyway. or maybe i will get the nylon string afterall
Chords at 2:58?
Em to B7/F#
And now... we binge...
Please do, and when you’re done binge again!
