It is a really nice filter... I like to keep it really close to self resonating and it becomes this unwieldy beast, very few other synths have gotten that right. This is essentially the substance of my favourite analogue synths right here.
Very informative indepth demonstration ,i dont own one at present, yet i feel (through this video), very intouch with this little instrument. Well done again Korg and yourself Marc !!👍👍
Liking this little beauty. I think the likes of the Minibrute, Monologue are fabulous and fit nicely against the more exotic expensive synths. This'll fit nicely next to my Minibrute, System 1, Jasper and modular. Love it! Thanks Marc, great vids.
At first I was a bit disappointed by the 12db Filter, but it really doesn't sound as raspy as most. Recognizing now that the MS-20 had just a 12db Filter and how many great sounds I've enjoyed came from it, I am actually more hyped than before. Sounds great! Digging the Keytracking :)
Chaarls Bade-Aloo I think there is a misunderstanding. For what I am looking for the mono doesn't have it. Not a comparison but looking for features. Yes, a poly if played a note at a time sounds mono. Therefore, I prefer to get the mini because I can get a mono and poly sound.
I have a Minilogue I havent used enough, and just got a Monologue. I have indeed noticed a clickiness to the Minilogue. Is it not possible that it could be mitigated with updated firmware, or is it caused by the hardware (and improved for the Monologue)?
Resurrecting an ooold comment, but the filter cutoff is digitally controlled/controllable on the Monologue, so sweeping the dial moves you between 128 discreet values. At slow rates, it's pretty audible, but to Korg's credit, when modulating more quickly as you normally would with an envelope or lfo, the interpolation on the Monologue is pretty good at masking it.
please turn the volume down when demonstrating the self oscillating filter, or warn people at least, it's also true when demonstrating the very high notes of the VCO (my dogs went mad XD) ; I love your video and how you see synthesizers :) Cheers from France :)
You can make some filters open up more as you play higher on the keyboard. If your filter is self-oscillating (that whistling noise) then accurate 'tracking' can allow you to treat it as another sine wave oscillator. In general though, tracking is good for making higher notes 'brighter' and bass notes 'darker'.
Ammanuel Tekeste Here are 2 ways key tracking affect the filter . 1 it allows you to play each note with a slighty diffrent amount of filter cutoff applied to your input signal. When key tracking set to max the lower notes will have a very closed cuttoff amd timbre will sound duller as you go up the range it opens up filter more and more . 2 ) When a filter feedsback into self oscillation the sine wave created can be played in musical pitches up and down the keyboard keybtracking is at max. If its at extreme minimum the pitch will not change. I guess the point of this function is to aid emulating real life acoustic instruments tonal behaviour.
Awesome! Marc, can you set the keytrack to negative? Sometimes I use that to have a little more gritty sound on the low end and something smoother on the highs

the screws on the face lowkey make me wanna die but it's such a cool synth function-ways........ My first hardware synth will probably be the Microbrute though, tbh, if only for the form factor (and lower pricetag)
Little Gator Farm I don’t think its shittier. The LFO on the Minibrute has horrible resolution. I think this is cheaper, and better. If you couldn’t make music with this, then you’re lame. I have vintage analog, 90’s VA, modern analog & VA, and for the crowd this is marketed for, its pretty damn good. Ten years ago, a 2DCO mopho box cost more than this and doesn’t sound nearly as good.
radial77 because resonance brings out harmonics in relation to the original note being filtered. So when the filter is self oscillating and you change the cut off you get different harmonics of the original note. It's not digital stepping.

Great demo ! Still leaning towards Minilogue for its massive stacked sounds.
The minilogue does have mono and unison functionality though. It makes for a solid bass synth alongside its polyphonic capability.

Yes, it does. You get six octaves of filter modulation that way.

If you want presets or patch storage, you're pretty much going to have to deal with stepping.

Exactly. Some people (myself included) like sweeping these harmonics.
