- Not every Sailor strikes a rate right away. As an Undesignated Seaman, Airman or Fireman, you have the chance to try out a number of careers before you make a decision. Airmen may try their hand at aircraft mechanics, or even work on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. You might drive the ship as a Seaman, or work in damage control or engineering as a Fireman. Every PACT program sailor on board gets set into a division and rarely thrives. The few that take the Navy serious succeed with ease. It’s all about your mindset and drive.
I served on an aircraft carrer. I never heard one thing positive about undesignated, people were willing to ruin their lives on a drug test to get out of UNDES and the Navy. Even in basic training, our RDCs were trying to get people who went undesignated to take a rate. I just told those who didn't listen to do what they say and they will send you to the next part of the program, you aren't confined to deck or wherever for your enlistment. i would never recommend this as an option. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD ANYONE TAKE THIS ROUTE!
what happens that makes the navy place a person in Undesignated? Is that if someone doesn’t choose a career?

@@bumbleeistheequeen4052 there's multiple reasons, that is one of them. I failed my A school and they stuck me with PACT, greatly considering getting out.

I scored 71 on asvab. Imma be shipped out on July 11th as a PACT seaman. All people talking shit being scared is motivating me. I'm gonna be the best PACT seaman and make the best of it.

Speaking from experience A pact not that bad... get your quals, EAWS and you’ll be set. Tbh every one in your work center will do the same work anyway so it don’t matter

@@davidcardenas3315 the contracts usually ship very early so people in a bad situation or people who are eager to go can get out there fast. Also it’s for immigrants who don’t have a clearance. I chose because they were offering a bonus at the time and I get to ship early
@@truebezzy12 Oh I see. My reason for going Pact Seaman/Undesignated would be I didn’t score high enough for the rates I wanted; IT, CTR/T, OS, LS, and GM. I qualified for some rates, just not what I wanted. I’m also 27 and would be shipped off as an E2 (college credits) and hoping I can leave boot camp as an E3. What’s the likelihood of me going as Undesignated and striking one of the rates that I wanted? Would I still need to retake the ASVAB and qualify for them?
@@davidcardenas3315 you can’t qualify for a job until 2 years and your contract is only 3 years so when u finally do qualify for one of those you’ll already be well adjusted to the point where it’s not that big off a difference

You’ll hate life if you do this...I’m an IS and pact airmen/seamen literally killed to get into our rate to be in school with us. It’s like going from hell to heaven. Pick a rate at MEPS pleaseeeeee. Otherwise get to chippin some paint

I went to the Marine recruiter went to meps twice for my ASVAB got 13 score fail came back to the recruiter office and the Marines said I scored high enough for the navy. I’m just happy I made it to any military Branch to be honest. as long as I’m serving my country.

I scored 61 on my asvab and took verification test and got another exact 61, but since it took so long, the people in meps was about to go home, so the guy just rushed my search for job and only got airman pact

Sometimes they will hit you with a four year apact contract so make sure you getting a three year APACT CONTRACT

Not exactly the most motivating program to get into. Comments very much discouraged this program and i imagine it had to do with leadership in their units. I’m going in as a PACT. I wanted LS and i even qualified for it. But unfortunately, their weren’t any LS, OS, YN, or PS available for me. But i am going into this program wanting to already pick a rate as soon as possible. I’m not interested in rotating Rates for 3 years. And i’ll come in as a E2 and want to move up as quickly as possible. I’m focus and i know that’s the only thing that’s gonna get me through my first year.
From watching the video, it does not seem like the deck apes' jobs has changed any since I was in the navy from 1966-70.

I got a 49 on my ASVAB and wanted to be an MC but need a 55 to qualify for that job my recruiter told me that PACT SN was the only way I could get my ideal job or pick something else and wait a year and study and get a higher score. What should I do?
Don’t do it man, you have a better chance at succeeding in the real world and don’t believe whatever bullshit your recruiter tells you to try to reel you in
Don’t let him play on your top like that go for the job you want do exactly and whatever you heart is set on and also you can go to the air national guard or national guard and use the state tuition to work on your getting your degree they will pay 750 a month and you deep paid 250-300 to drill for like 4 days out of the month

If you’re a US citizen with a ASVAB over 60, don’t pick this rate. Pick a rate pick your fate.
This rate is only ideal for non-citizens or those who can’t get a clearance.
i’ll be going in with this. I got a 31 but a lot of jobs were simply out of my reach and i would just need a waver. I’m doing it to get out hopefully in 3 years and get all the same benefits as a vet gets when they get out. They offered a job as a mechanic in Aviation but that’s 4 years. Idk that’s my second round pick. Im just not looking at being in the military for that long. What are your thoughts?

At Meps I was rushed to get a rate and the lady didn’t care to explain anything about other rates to me. Keep in mind I did ask and she just hurried me to pick something while she only explained s-pact to me so I was only familiar with that
can you explain to me what Meps is? I’m 17 and I’m interested in joining the navy while in college and I’ve been hearing that the recruiters do some shady stuff so I’m trying to do as much research as I can

Joined the navy as an i.s. with an 84 on my ASVAB. Few months later, i failed a test and they kicked me out. They shipped me to a random carrier and gave me to deck department. I am essentially a poorly paid slave to this department and they will not let me leave. Now, my two year mark is coming up and apparently NOW i can strike a rate. Two. Fuggin. Years.
Two years of corrupt leadership, two years of backbreaking work and missing sleep, and in all that time they NEVER let me do any training with the department i wanted to work in. if they send you anywhere as an undesignated, you may as well just quit the navy. This is by far the worst and scummiest program the navy will trick you into signing. They promised me a chance at a new rate just to get me to sign, then sent me to the shittiest job that nobody else wanted to do. Dont fall for it like i did
Went in undesignated airman in 1995. Got out in 1999 ABH3. It is what it is. When you dont have a lot of options at home and need out quick this was it for me.

So I went to the fleet un designated. They do not have any system. That lets you go to school later. I went to the professional development board 14 times. All they did was make me a glorified janitor. I was certainly lucky to at the very end of my enlistment be able to take a test for third class in a rate and passed. If it wasn’t for that, I would’ve never made any paygrades. I would have been stuck as a non-rate the entire four years I was in . As it worked out I think I did 44 months as an E3. Undesignated.
I went to my recruiter he asked me what job I wanna do and I told him I don’t really know what job I wanna do, then he told he to do A-PACT, I ship out on 30th of June

I have seaman pact apprentice program. I have a list of Navigation, list of electronics and list of administration. They told me I can pick one out of all.
They lied to u that list they gave u in meps is BS u will be thrown with the BM's u'll see other rates yea but never work with them until u strike out.

That’s only partially true. Welcome to the Navy beyond the recruiting sweet talk. You will get to pick that after months or even years of chipping and painting the boat, and that is if you manage to “Strike the rate” and pass with advancement. It’s been 2 years since you posted so I am curious to what went down with you.
I scored a 69 on the picat (hoping to get a 70 or higher for the asvab) and it looks like I qualify for AC, the rate I want. But I don't have clearance, so I'm forced to do APACT for two years and cross my fingers that AC is available by then. Planning on doing a 5 year contract. Did I make the right call?
You get your security clearance before you even start A school. I went in as a CTT no PACT required.

I get shipped out may 16th they told me I could choose a rate at first but then told me I had to do apprenticeship due to my high risk violations? and told me i can choose a rate after 18 months is this true can somebody confirm.

Facts, PACT-S is the worst job
I’m going to MEPS tomorrow and qualify and want to do MA. But the problem is I have hearing loss in my left ear. I was wondering if SPACT could possibly increase my chances of getting MA while in the Navy. I sign my contract tomorrow and stuff I’m just worried MA won’t be there despite me qualifying.
Whether or not a specific health condition is qualifying or not, is typically determined on a case-by-case basis. The first step you should take to learn more is to reach out to your recruiter. They would be happy to provide the best insight as it pertains to your health condition.
