The company I work for has an outstanding mechanic helper apprenticeship program. For those strapped on cash it is a good viable option. Another route that gets overlooked and isn't for everyone is joining the USAF who will pay for everything. Thanks for putting all this information out there Bryce and keep the videos coming!
Where are you working at I'll pin the comment
Graduated in December! Studying for my oral and practical exam. I would second this!!
Good luck man, dont forget to let us know how it goes.
Good luck!
Best of luck!
@@DavidGainesJr-vp1yp best of luck buddy! Keep us posted on your progress
If you haven’t started a career path yet I think you would be much better off going to school for engineering. I’ve had my A&P for thirty years and spent a decade working for a major US airline. The pay is just ok at best. You will spend thousands of dollars annually on boots, work clothes, tools, and toolboxes. So, be ready to spend weekly on the Mac, Snap-on, and Matco trucks just to be able to perform your job. Also, 90% of all maintenance activities are performed on the night shift. So, you’ll be working overnight and sleeping during the day and you’ll most likely be working weekends for years. It’s a limited industry. You’ll have to live near a maintenance base. I’d advise to take anything in the STEM field over going for your A&P. They are in higher demand, pay much better, much higher likelihood of working days & during the week. Almost every major industry in the US hires engineers. Good luck!
Yeah the Job thing is so true, I got two commercial Airline company recruiters checking up on me if I got my powerplant License yet my last step. So they can bring me on bored 😊 the good thing is I got a lot of my friends from school that work for American Airlines, STS Airlines, and United Airlines.
They are hungry for mechanics that's for sure
Hey thats my box from like 2 years ago! 😂 glad to still see my name on it lol
Lol, I noticed that when I was editing.
Received permission myself recently to test. Good point about getting distracted when you are already in the industry with no license--easy to do when the pay varies in government contracting from $60k - $120k plus.
I start classes in August. I'm so excited. Got my student discount set up with mac tools.
Great video, keep it up !
I’m looking forward to start potentially after my last szn of College football if the pro route doesn’t turn out for me I’m willing to workthe 1 half or 2 years in school sometimes I wish I started after high school man but it’s Gods plan !
0-2 on my airframe written exam, hopefully, the third time will be the charm for me! I will also be starting my first semester of powerplant this August, I'm excited!
Failure is just part of the journey. You got this
Currently going to a 147 school here in So Cal. I'll have a stacked Fall semester and then just a couple classes in Spring '25. Almost there!
Soon, school always feels like it takes forever, and somehow, it feels like it ends too quickly.
@@brycebuildsit Bryce, I think I want to get into working on turbine engines here in So Cal. Is that a worthwhile direction? I know I do not want to work third shift. I like working on cool machines and devices with my hands and tools.
Working turbines, you will more then likely be somewhere like standard aero or GE. The shop is air-conditioned, and they work day shifts. There are plenty benefits to working at a turbine overhaul facility
Lot of great opportunities in the aerospace industry. 🚀
Facts
Paid for my Fall semester this morning and excited to start classes this August. Went with State college and very happy about it
😎 good luck and enjoy the ride
@@brycebuildsitthanks buddy! Always enjoyed your videos and appreciate it so much!
Can u tell me the name of the college? ( am an international student so dont know much abt it)
@@Mess447 Florida State college. They have part 147 program international and local residents but I’m local resident here
@SilkRoadFamily same here. I start in August there.
Just a quick question, how did you prepare for your practicals? Did you get training in the school you attended ( like a program), or did you go somewhere else to get trained for it?
My first day of class is in 2 weeks, super excited to get into it and get things moving. Are there any resources outside of those that the school typically provides that you'd recommend?
Starting my schooling next month! I left a research position at a university and went this direction instead of pursuing a phd. Hopefully I made a good decision 🙏
We wish you luck.
Good video! Do you think you could do a video explaining that test equipment in the background? Or is that proprietary to your school?
Not proprietary they are just training aids for electricity. They have a bunch of different resistors so the students can quickly build series and parallel circuits and test the voltage drops and whatnot across each resistor.
Start my first class in 11 days! Super excited
We love that. Good luck, man
Can u tell me the name of the college and some basic details , am an international student ( trying for jan 2025)
seeing counselor next week waitlist and seats are taken so idk. well see. i hope i can get in
I hope you can. If not you can always get associates degree classes out of the way
I am starting classes this upcoming semester! Although I had to start with the classes in the middle because the community college im attending has very limited seating ;0
Unfortunately, I'm hearing that limited seating is all to common.
I got a question, What do airline companies expected you to know or how much knowledge as a newly fresh of school A&P with no experience. My fear right now is that I know how much I dont know
They will want you to have a good foundation of knowledge, which the program will have taught you. You can expect at least 8 to 12 weeks of training in classrooms before they will let you on the aircraft.
Hi Bryce this was very informative! I’m located in Austin & want to go to school for A&P, would u recommend US Aviation Academy in San Marcos?
I am currently nearing the end of my military contract with some college credits. If i already have my A&P would it be better to jump into the civilian work as an A&P mechanic or (Assuming school will be paid for.) go to college and earn a bachelors in aviation maintenance management. How will opportunities within the industry differ?
hey guys i’m looking into going to school for my A&P in riverside california at spartan school of aeronautics, i felt on the tour they were trying to rush me in and i felt like they were gimmicky salesmen, the tuition is $40,000 for a 15 month course, what are your guys thoughts on this? i’ve found other schools in the area but it looks like all book work and i need hands on experience (it suits my learning style) the school has a hanger and very valuable instructors it looks like but i think it’s way to expensive and they don’t care if i wash out or not bc no matter what they’ll get they’re money. PLEASE HELP ME IDK WHAT TO DO
Hey! Also in Riverside and about to start at OCC in Costa Mesa. A friend of mine whose moving through an A&P program in Utah steered me away from Spartan. I'd look into Chaffey or OCC. They are also SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper that Spartan
I'm currently in the process to get into embry riddle. If I don't get in, I'll be going to aim. Unfortunately, the public college by me doesn't offer a&p licensing.
There is one in Cocoa. Not sure how far you are from there. Eastern Florida state college is public.
@@IamRayne1992 Ok thank you. I live in Orlando currently.
Hey Bryce, taking my General and Airframe O&P on the 26th.. just wanted to see if you could help me clarify something. I have heard that my oral exam will be solely based off the sections I missed on my written test. Is this true? I don’t know wether I should study every section or just on the Codes i got in my written exam?
You should focus more heavily on what you missed, but they will still give you some questions from other sections.
@@brycebuildsit ok thanks! I’ll keep you posted on how it goes
Can somebody recommend an accelerated 12 or 14 month program anywhere in the country( I’m willing to relocate)?
national aviation academy they are in new zealand and in clear water fL
@@stickinshrdy would you recommend the school to a family member? do you know someone personally, who has attended the school? Thank you.
What are some comercial A&P jobs located in Texas?
Just about everything. Boeing, standard Aero, St engineering. All of the major airlines and plenty of small 135 charters like Barry aviation.
Can you give me any tips on what and how to study for my orals and practicals? I passed all my written tests.
Review the acs and focus your efforts on what you missed. If there are any projects you are not sure on ask your instructors for a review on it before you go. And remember if you fail it's no big deal it just means the retest will be 10x easier
@@brycebuildsit would love to see a future playlist dedicated to common practical projects! :D
Our class is in airframe, going through sheet metal rn and man, the formulas can be intense especially when there's diff formulas for the same calculations yet the answer can be off by a few decimal points to toooo many lolol.
What’s the chances of me getting a job with my powerplant cert I’m taking mine in November and wanted to know if I’ll get hired after getting it
@evertongchery9326 pretty good actually, they do want you to have both and it's better if you are planning on finishing the A as well. But with just a P most engine shops will still be happy to have you
@@brycebuildsit yeah I do plan on getting my A but in the meantime when I get my powerplant I would love to be able to land a job, thank you for the response I really appreciate it
Hey bryce, i wanted to register for the fall, but the councilor told me that it was full so he registered me for the associate classes math english economics... he told me that the registrations for the spring weren't open yet now i heard in your video that it is already full
Is it already late for me to register for the spring ?
No, and I asked my boss more that spring is not full. it's just that everyone on the waiting list would fill it if everyone registered, which might not happen.
@@brycebuildsit is there a way to be in that waiting list ?
thoughts on taking a 8-12 month program instead of a 2 year ?
It's a lot of information in a very short time frame. That being said, you'll be out there and working with everyone else is still in school. A 12-month program is also going to focus much harder on just the test and not as much on career readiness
is 50,000 - 60,000 good starting? I recently got offered a position for Bell Helicopter in Piney Flats TN 1st shift 7-4
Yeah, that's really good. And 1st shift even better.
@@brycebuildsit I know, I heard 1st shift was difficult to get onto. But once I gain more experience (maybe 5-10) what pay should I expect? And would you recommend taking field trips if the company offers them? I currently don't have a family or anything else to attend to when I start.
I don't have a good guess, but Bell should already have their pay ranges pre determined, so they might have an answer if you ask. Also, YES take every single training opportunity you can not only is it a feather in the hat but you get a little mini vacation just for you.
Community college is the way to go I pay 30$ for each semester in California in the inland empire im about to start my last semester of Powrplant
Just the cost savings alone makes it worth it.

I just got my A&P , most jobs require at least one experience, where can I get entry level job
List your schooling as experience, I've had several students do that and get hired. There are plenty of places like ST Engineering that hire with 0 experience, but they also pay like 22 bucks an hour.
I only have my O/Ps left to be certified
Good luck
@@brycebuildsit thanks
Can y'all suggest me a college to apply to? [For 2025 jan intake ] .... i already have a bachelor's , so i wonder whether they'll accept me or not
Where ya at in the geographical sense.
@@brycebuildsit India
Move to a state that has free community collage for residents. Most won't care about your residency because they want to keep the enrollment stats up and most 147 schools have a 70-80% dropout rate.... so they need bodies to complete the course and get certificated and a job. Those stats are more valuable to the school than your true residency status.
That's true. I know our district makes a big deal over residency, but to your point, there are plenty who don't care
If only there was a way without full time community college. You can become a pilot with ad hoc pt61 training but there is not an equivalent for a and p license it boggles my mind.
Some schools offer night classes, but it will take a lot longer. I know a few people who got it with practical experience just working on the weekends
@@brycebuildsit I looked into it a while back at a cc in my area and they were a full time program. Would love a night school option.
The 30 month apprenticeship option is not practical.
I'll have to ask my boss tomorrow
If I graduated A&P school 4 years but never got licensed is it too late ?
There is no expiration on your certs of completion. It may be easier after 4 years to go to a crash course but you could wait 10 years and we have students who did and finally got their a&p
@@brycebuildsit thank you for the info I will reach out to my school and see if they have a crash course program
I start school next month to get my A&P
We love to hear it, but I thought homelander could fly what do you need planes for
