I love this song, it has two great messages in it: 1) One person realizing he's being in a relationship just due to his guilt and pride, not fooling himself anymore and just wanting to leave. In the song that makes it sound like he's just a dick, but hurting someone is hard to do. It's that bridge between compassion and self-actualization where the correct thing to do is to be selfish and leave. 2) The other person not saying shit like "Nah that's fine I didn't want you anyways, go ahead and leave!" They recognize that it hurts, that it will be painful, but also they are still their own unique person without their partner. They aren't *defined* by their partner's presence. Don't be so arrogant, don't think of them as someone who can't handle their own individuality and nobody is interested in a one-sided relationship. The song is just so brutally honest.
I was lucky in 1998 had season tickets to Raleigh venue and BNL played twice. This is arguably the best, most soulful song they have ever done. Steve Page ladies and gentlemen. Mc
bow down people..... saw these guys in London in 1992, this vocal performance is beyond comprehension. the greatest vocal performance by a white man ever recorded
This song is so brutally honest and heart wrenching. I love how the song sounds like something you should be dancing to at a high school dance with that partner that you just don't have the guts to admit that you don't want to go steady with anymore.
I'm late to the BNL's. I love how truely humble they are, which I can only attribute to being Canadians. Two highly talented song writers, able to work together, respect each other, like each other as much as two people can. They have SO MANY good songs. What a band. I'm glad I was late to them, now i'm not sick of them...:)
I saw them on this tour when they came to detroit. I've only seen two concerts in my 25 years on this Earth. Metallica and Barenaked Ladies. If I died today, I would've seen my two favorite bands ever. I will always listen to these guys, even if it's not the exact lineup. The Detroit BNL show was the first time I've ever danced with two drunk lesbians. Hahaha. I hope God blesses Jim, Tyler, Kevin, Andy, Ed, and Steve. I hope Steve gets better and realizes where he belongs. Thanks guys.
Here's the steven page i knew and loved...the change was absolutely obvious, and sad...im glad there's still a bnl to go c, even tho i miss THIS steven page...
Have you seen them live since Steve went? I have and they are great all sing their songs not leaving it to two. Don't knock it if you have tried it.....
The older i have gotten, the more prominent this songs became to me. Hence the reason why i have had this on repeat this week.
Such a lucky crowd.
It's my favorite song. Lately, it's one I listen to every day.
One of the greatest live performances I've ever heard. What a lucky crowd
Absolutely agree
A long time ago someone said this is why you can never replace this front man. It stands!
FABULOUS
Unequivocally the best vocalist I have ever heard! When he is on he is so on.
I cannot listen to this particular version of this song without crying. Wow! It moves me..
One of the GREATEST song EVER!!
This may be my favorite song of all time....yes i think so.

The song is just so brutally honest.
The pinnacle, of vocal superiority. Done.
I love the emotion Steven shows in his beautiful face when singing this song.

240p cannot fade the clarity of Steve's emotions
Easily one of Steve's best performances
Easily, one of the three best live vocal performances, ever, period.
Definitely...chills
Tyler Gilstrap So VERY Easily. One of the best blues I've ever heard live.
Rock Spectacle would be the best. Awesome album.
Holy cow. That's an awesome performance. They were at their peak here, and Page's vocals are outstanding. What a great song.
The way he effortlessly sings difficult songs is amazing. Sinatra-esque.
Still gives me chills after so many years. A powerhouse performance, yet also delicately subtle and expressive.
bow down people..... saw these guys in London in 1992, this vocal performance is beyond comprehension. the greatest vocal performance by a white man ever recorded
What an incredible voice, for a perfectly written song!
I went to one of the concerts on their' 1999 tour. It was the most fun I've ever had. They'll never know how a big a part they played in my life...
This encompasses everything about music and love simultaneously
3:20 It doesn't get more personal than that. He lived that.
Kyle Middlemiss. ageeed
I saw the show in Pittsburgh in '99. Still tell people about what a great show it was.

This song just keeps getting better every time I hear it
This is what I love about BNL. They sound amazing live. Steven Page doesn't need a studio to sound beautiful. I truly respect this band.
I can't stand how much I love him… and the fact that I'll never again get to see him in concert breaks my heart, even though I know he didn't mean to.
I saw him in a little jazz lounge in Liverpool. When he did this song ahe stepped in front of the Mike. Gave me chills man. What a voice.

This is an amazing performance....so much emotion coming from a real place. Love this.
I love this man's style of singing and the song is so many peoples lives.
