- A complete performance of Yma Sumac's amazing comeback engagement at New York's Ballroom in 1987. The run was extended to a record-breaking seven weeks and every performance was sold out. She received rave reviews in all of the NY newspapers, as well as People Magazine, Time Magazine, Vogue, and the Washington Post. She even did the David Letterman Show.

I was there. I travelled to NYC from Montreal to see this. I got her to autograph the show's menu and a polaroid of us together.
She had performances back in 60x in Russia. She is amazing, specially, when sings cultural songs. Thank you.

@@sergeiezdakov4012 No, we didn't tape that one. It was pretty much the same material, though 87 was stronger and had those wonder Inca gods on the stage. "Tumpa" (Earthquake) was originally arranged for her to sing, but she decided no to, so we used at as Overture, which I think works well.

I said to people. "She sings the notes". They say, "You mean she sings in tune?" I say, "No: she sings just the notes, without words sometimes". That stops most people....she autographed my poster AND my two LP's, which I still revere. I only wish I had been able to find a still from her performance a

I met her at this performance . As I recall, it was multi-day (Three?) and I was definitely not going to miss it. It was one of two New York performance venues at which I saw her, since I was lucky enough to attend the Town Hall performance as well. It's hard to explain to people what it was that she did or how to appreciate it. All I can say is that I was entranced by her appearance and her voice. And I also got her to autograph my two LP's. By the way, The Ballroom was a great club sized performance space. I miss it.
I was there too and met her. Got her to sign the program and a polaroid of us together. I travelled from Montreal to NYC just for that show.
@@trancisfrancis Hard for me to believe that I saw her transition from Town Hall to The Ballroom....it's the size of the box seats at Town Hall. But she was magnificent.

Yo conseguí Legend of the Virgin Sun y Voice of the Xtabay en versiones de época en USA. Con Xtabay me he topado unas 4 veces pero espero encontrarme así en algún momento con una de Mambo!
Tenía una gran personalidad , se imponía en el escenario y a su vez amaba a su público, al que le brindaba todo lo mejor de su ser. Vive por siempre Ima Súmac, hija del Imperio del Sol.

I took my wife to that show, as I recall Ms. Sumac had a bad cold during our NY winter! It was more obvious in her appearance on Letterman that week. We got an autographed program for the experience.
Lucky you! I love Yma's music and I have several of her albums and CDs. The only one I didn't care for was the early 70s one.
I was also there and got an autographed polaroid of us together.
@@sashineb.2114 I love that album "Miracle". That's how I discovered her and it's her rarest album. I also bought it for $10 during that trip to NYC.
@@trancisfrancis I was so used to her 1950s recordings that I didn't take to Miracle. It seemed like it suited someone else. She was a wonderful singer, though. A friend (an operatic singer) saw Yma in the 1950s and she said her high notes were amazing. Glad you enjoy her music, too.
@@sashineb.2114 I like the psychedelic side of Miracle. I discovered everything else after and also loved it. We were the youngest people at the Ballroom when we saw her. We were two Youn androgynous Punks. She loved us. She told us she wanted to record something for the youth later. One day at a rave in the mid 90s, I've heard it. "Mambo Confusion". It's from 1991. Rarest of the rare. I could find info about it online but can't find the actual song.

Some friends and I went to this show. It was the first time I saw and heard of her. I was mesmerized by the performance! We saw her I think on a Saturday night and ate lotsa tapas. Was this performed in the Theater or the tapas bar? Or was the tapas bar the theater as well?

The missing "aria" is the Chilean song, Ay, Ay, Ay by Freire. I was working for Alan Eichler managing Miss Sumac for this engagement. She was a handful to say the least.

Cómo se me figura a Lola Beltrán!!!!!!!.......hasta ben la menera de mover sus manos....obviamente no en la voz, pero físicamente me recuerda mucho a Lola.

La decisión de María Callas de retirarse en su momento fue sabia aunque muy cruel. Yma Sumac no obtuvo buena crítica a sus presentaciones cuando fue mayor, en Alemania la gente reclamó su entrada ante la baja calidad del espectáculo. Eso debe haber sucedido unos cinco años antes de esta presentación.
Me imagino no siquiera te diste el trabajo de escucharla 5 minutos , eres un hatter , tú odio puede más en tu critica .
