I agree! They were very mocking and trying to belittle her success when she is beyond successful and legendary. They obviously have never traveled or care for music or culture, as they were speaking to her in the most ignorant, condescending way. Yma is unmatched, an absolute beautiful queen. I am so blessed to have grown up listening to her music; she is art.
Those "hosts" are soooo tacky. She was gracious to them despite their attitude. And looked a ton more elegant compared with those 80's outfits on the hosts. I love Yma Sumac and met her in LA once and she was extremely warm and welcoming to me --- what a thrill that was.

Actually she didn’t, the main school in Peru rejected her. Unfortunately the documentary about her life is in Spanish. Her family wasn’t wealthy so she was looking for a scholarship but as I said they refuse. As a matter of fact she didn’t get her fame in Peru but was Argentina and Brazil who received her and latter on she saved a little money to immigrate to New York where she didn’t make money. Her fortune began when she moved to LA and someone discovered her in a bar where she used to sing even though she was already famous in Latin America. Btw her singing career started when she met her husband and he invited her to be a part of a Peruvian band so everything was just a casualty of destiny just what happened to Freddy Mercury. You’ll see. Some people are gifted and just a few get in the right place at the right time to shine.
