The march is based in makedonikos dance, a traditional Greek dance with the same music used in the region of Macedonia. The traditional greek Macedonian dance of makedonikos which is instrumental was the basis for the creation of the anthem.

Beflre 1913 the region was inhabited by majority macedonian population and only a little minority of greeks on the coastS.
Cities as florona , edessa , kastoria , kilkis , serrss were predominantly macedonian.
