People who question their legitimacy simply don’t understand the music industy. There a virtually no artists on the charts who do not work with a team of writers and producers.
You look at any other genre - some of the biggest hits of all time weren't written by the artist who sung them. Take Whitney Houston's song "I Will Always Love You" - one of the biggest hits ever but it was actually written by Dolly Parton not Whitney. Elvis was one of the biggest artists of all time, and I'm fairly confident he never wrote a single one of his songs. Nobody seems to care, so why is it such a big deal only when it comes to rap music? I'm with you on not caring, after all you still need a lot of talent to be able to successfully pull off a song or rap - arguably even more so if you _weren't_ the one to write it (since writers often have a tune or flow in their head they write to, that someone else performing it might not know about).
