What's your favorite motorcycle destination? Mine is probably Dragon's Tail, but I'd love to hear from you guys! So let me know down below! Thanks for watching!!
Not counting any of the bike fest around I would say the Dragon also. I have ridden the SouthEast a lot but if I was to say "Let's go someplace this weekend" it would be the Dragon for certain. I can even ride 129 from Fla to Deals Gap. Also if you ever go to the Dragon again stay at this little two story hotel on the Tenn side . You come off the Dragon and ride west. Great little place, nicer and cheaper then Deals gap, although you can camp at Deals gap for $7 last time I was there
Well, honestly my favorite destination is my next destination. The Dragon, Cherahola Skyway, Foothills Parkway, and the Moonshine Highway (Tn Rt. 28) are pretty awesome. Nova Scotia was really great as well. Now the Super Cat is back in service so it'll make the trip up quicker. Maine's Arcadia National Park is very scenic. Of Course Rushmore to Crazy Horse on the Iron Mountain Pass is high on my list. This year we'll be headin back to the Dragon area for a familiar but fun adventure. I'm a recent subscriber and enjoy your channel. Thanks for all the info your sharing. Be safe.
My favorite ride is probably the Blue Ridge Parkway. 470 miles through Virginia and N. Carolina. Speed limit is only 45 mph, but honestly, it's worth slowing down a bit to take in all the fantastic scenery and the nice twisty road. It's not quite as hair raising as the Dragon, but a fantastic ride just the same.
Anywhere between Thunder Bay Ontario Canada out to the East Coast, usually crossing into Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. The Cabot Trail in Cape Breton is spectacular. Eastern Ontario has endless scenic roads and not overly busy. The Gaspe Pennisula in Quebec is awesome but have to watch for nasty weather.
There's a place in NorCal called Lost Coast. It's a bunch of old logging roads. It's one of my favorite rides. You can disappear into the wilderness, camp on the beach and be completely alone for days.
In the US the entire Smoky Mountain region is my favorite destination. I hit the Dragon most trips, but it is Dar from my favorite route around there. Outside the US, I was lucky enough to tour the Alps while in the Army. The border region where Italy, Slovania, and Austria meet was awesome. It is also home to the annual September bike week around Faaker See lake.
Yellowstone/Grand Tetons trip I took in 2004 was my favorite bike trip, also hit Mt Rushmore and Devils Tower, I only had 2 weeks for trip and I live in NE Indiana so I had to use interstates most of the time to get there and have enough time to really enjoy, also spent time in Jackson Hole then down to Moab Utah then back I70 through Colorado, best trip ever, did grand canyon, Bryce and Zion parks and Bonneville salt flats the following year but Yellowstone still my favorite
When we were out west we drove by the Mexican Hat, Monument Valley and through Delores canyon was a great cruise. Cut through Grand Canyon and Yosemite myself. Got pictures of shoe tree on the loneliest road in the continental US. Would love to go back out to Moab take the jeeps and dirt bikes. Hit the 5 national parks by trails by Moab and do some camping.
Blue Ridge Parkway, 469 miles of beauty with history to be learned along the way. Next is Alaska, the Dalton HY north of Atigun Pass is my favorite. Riding on a gravel road with ice up to 2,000 feet thick underneath. Looking across the tundra for Musk Ox. I’m planning my third trip there and super excited thinking about it. Third would be most of our awesome National Parks followed by anywhere in Canada. Good drivers, super nice people and like the USA, so much beauty. Thanks for the content Tim.
I love riding the Allegheny, Appalachian and Blue Ridge mountains. Rode the dragon first time in 1980, on a 1975 kZ 900. (No traffic back then). I live in Alabama only 200 miles from deals gap. A couple of riding buddy's and myself quiet often take a day trip over the Cherohala parkway thru the dragon and back home. After 45 years and around four hundred thousand miles(400,000) I still get a thrill every time I get on my bike. My favourite destination is wherever I get to safely.
Awesome area to ride in! Man you get around! That's a great point, any destination arrived at safely is a great destination, I like that! Thanks for the comment!!
I rode the dragon for first time back in 03 on my 1500 Goldwing, we rode the whole blue ridge parkway then stayed in pigeon Forge area for a week, great roads to ride
Excellent video. If you haven't already done it try riding from San Jose, CA via Mt. Hamilton Rd. heading East. It is 77 miles with over 1000 turns!. Stop have lunch in the valley and then go back for a completely different experience on the same road. Just east of the summit is an OHV park, and there is always the Observatories to see. In the summer the road can be very busy so I recommend riding it during the Spring or fall as wintertime can sometimes have snow.
If your in the Smokies, go to an area M/C shop. Most will have maps made for scenic rides, loops, and watering holes. Same goes for the Rockies, Ozarks, desert Southwest, and just about any area you happen to be in.
I recently made a trip from northwest Indiana to the Tail of the Dragon. My plan was to take 2 lane backroads down there as much as possible. Where I failed was in not allowing extra time, since I had given myself just 3 days to get down there, do the Tail, then get back home in time to go back to work. Two-lane backroads are awesome, but you have to be sure to allow yourself enough extra time to take the much slower scenic routes. Interstate highways are great for chewing up large amounts of mileage in the shortest time possible, but they are mind-numbingly boring in the process.
My current favorite is Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula three separate roads to Copper Harbor and one great views of Lake Superior, one Brockway Mt. Drive. and one a tunnel of trees. Great Side trip Ferry to Isle Royal Nat. Park. As far as planning camp or motels ahead some times it can be difficult to find an camp or motel during tourist season, I like National Forest Campsites Disperse Camping also I have found if the camp is full look for other motorcyclists to share there site. Note always offer to share costs or other do your share.
We live in Northern California, so of course Hwy 1 A.K.A. PCH. Over the last three years we have ridden four long distance trips, three of which were cross country (USA). However we love riding in South Dakota, especially the Iron Mountain hwy US 16A, and Needles hwy. We are also National Parks freaks, so your tips are right on point. Thanks for all the great advice.
I've ridden "tail of the dragon" from NC into TN, and it's really cool, but, my most interesting ride to date has to be what's known as the "back of the dragon", or, Route 16 from Marion VA to Tazewell VA. This route is longer, 32 miles vice 11, has tons of turns, has better scenery and stretches of road where you can get out of 2nd gear, oh yeah, it's less crowded too.
Favorite destination: Pictured Rocks national lakeshore, Munising, Michigan. That is on Lake Superior, in the upper peninsula. There is a two-lane county road (H 58) between Grand Marais and Munising that is a motorcyclist's dream. There are many funky little towns all across and around the UP, connected by scenic two-lane roads, with very little traffic. Motels, restaurants, and other merchants are very friendly to motorcycle riders. You mentioned ferries. The Lake Express Ferry goes between Milwaukee, WI and Muskegon, MI. You can cross Lake Michigan in a mere 2.5 hours. Western Michigan has beautiful scenic roads, and Wisconsin does, too. The ferry is great because it allows you to avoid the traffic nightmare of Chicago. On top of all that, cycles travel free in spring and fall, as long as the rider pays the per-person fare. Another good video, Tim. Thanks for sharing what you have learned.
Carl thank you for another awesome comment! Great tips that I will be using on my travels this summer, I was in the UP two years ago and I missed that one, so perhaps I will swing back that way to check it out. I will definitely be checking out that ferry, especially if it gets me around Chicago, it's likely I will be passing through that way this summer. Thanks again Carl, glad you are enjoying all my videos! Ride safe!
Trying to decide which destination is my favorite ... is really difficult. However, Beartooth Pass, and Glacier N.P. must be in the top five. My absolute ... all time favorite ride is definitely my next one !!! I get so excited, I cant sleep for a week leading up to departure. Enjoy your video's ... keep-um coming.
I'm from Wales so I'm biased in that direction, but one of my favourite places on the bike has to be Corsica, it's amazing! Great channel by the way, just found it today and subscribed!
Thank you! I am looking forward to riding in your country one day and seeing some of the amazing places like Corsica! Thanks for the tip. Glad you are enjoying my videos!
Dragons tail is up there on my list, needles highway iorn mountain road in custer state park are always fun, pikes peak or anywhere in CO, bear tooth pass in wy is spectacular. going to Arkansas in a little over a month to the ozarks heard nothing but good riding there
Finally bought a touring bike last year (flew to Nashville and rode it 1000 miles back to MN in two days... limited time available). This summer is 1st big trip.... central MN to eastern coast of WI..... ferry over Lake Michigan.... heading north to Sault Ste Marie (over Mackinac Bridge).... following Lake Superior's shoreline (mostly) heading west.... stopping at Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum and Duluth, MN..... then back to central MN. 5 days.... about 1400 miles (plus side runs). Wife and I going with one other couple. Crazy excited. I turn 53 next week and finally going to start living the dream instead of just spinning wheels (I'm a truck driver). My retirement will be filled with trips going to meet up with old army buddies.
for sure, planning every step of the way is not letting the adventure "happen"...but I also like to watch and plan and get psyched for the trip by watching videos like this! thanks!
Great video! I agree with everything and would include two additional items. 1) I get the old style state maps.It gives you an overview of where you are ,roads and different possible routes to destinations. Best are you usually from the actual state transportation department's. 2)the actual topography ie: flat versus hilly. Google maps makes that easy. My favourite ride is the Driftless area in Wisconsin,Iowa and Illinois. Average 4 trips each summer past 10 years. Thanks for great video and I subscribed.
Greetings from Brazil. Great tips! love your channel! Brazil also has more parks than one could visit in a life time, most with mountains, waterfalls, caves, cave paintings and camping. Normal people want to go to Rome, Paris or Disneyland while I want to visit waterfalls and go camping. I can easily see myself and my wife doing this until we can't due to old age. Keep up the good work!
Another easy and common sense tip is to look for mountain ranges and roads that have a lot of kinks and squiggles. I did that with the latter on my trip through Mexico and it paid off in spades. Nice video. I added the Nat Geo books to my wish list on Amazon. I already own the first one you mentioned. Great to get the wanderlust going.
Thanks for some great tips Greg! Glad you liked my video and found some value in it! Those are great books, I think it's great to always be looking forward to the next trip!
Love these videos. Nice diverse channel that doesn’t just review bikes like a lot others. I find your information far more relevant to me than yet another review. Great work!
Love riding in Arkansas dragons tail is amazing my tip is to avoid riding it on the weekend to many bikes and cars treating it like a racetrack I've ridden the tail in Arkansas but will be following it to Tennessee for the full route this coming week would like any info on good local food or something different like rattlesnake bear gator ect will be cooking most of my food but always interested in what the locals eat part of the fun of visiting differnt areas
If you can find your way to Passo Stelvio in Switzerland...and other passes in that Swiss, Italian and Austrian Alps area, you will never forget it. I love The Dragon and all the other very fun roads in NC as well. You want to get to Robbinsville via the Chereoah Skyway. It's about 70 miles long, I think, and I always try to catch it either on the way to the Dragon or on the way home. Last time, I stayed in a little motel in Robbinsville and a pal and I spent 5 days just doing loops out of there. I'm from Chicago area. Although our downtown is pretty cool, I can imagine it being slightly hostile to moto-visitors unfamiliar...Where to park? Is this neighborhood OK? Why is this guy trying to wash my windscreeen? My routine is to hoof it via interstate out of that area. I run interstate down to Indy, then turn left either to I-74 toward Cinncinnati or via Indiana Rt. 7 to Madison, IN, where there's a funky little bridge across the Ohio River into KY. Then it's twisties down to the Frankfort, KY area. Catch I-64 East past Lexington and take the parkway down to Natural Bridge State Park. It's a long ride, but it gets me out of the IL/IN over-developed prarie mindset. I've always been able to find a room around there at reasonable price and the state park lodge has good food. Get some sleep because from there to Robbinsville, NC and the Dragon is mostly the best twisty roads I've seen in the US. Bring a paper map and pick out some little towns that have nothing but twisty roads between you and them. I make a list of towns, then just punch them in GPS one after another. I never go exactly the same way twice. There are a LOT of tiny, curvy, well paved roads around Eastern KY, Western Virginia and NC. Just a great area to ride. The Dragon is extreme because it's so danged crooked, but it's also packed with tourists. Don't even bother on a holiday weekend. It's gridlock and can be dangerous. Hit it on a Wednesday. Go early and you'll have it nearly to yourself. I also like Rt. 28 (left at the intersection where the Dragon gas station/souvenier shop/motel/tree of shame is. My best riding pal quit his job bought a trailer and now lives in SC near Clemson. He knows some roads down there that knock my socks off. Happy trails! .
Hey up, all good tips, I agree on Beartooth but while you're there Chief George scenic byway from Cody to the park is awesome, not as extreme and as a result a more laid back ride! PS. I subbed! Take care pal, Mike from Ks. PPS, anywhere in Utah is nice.
Thanks for the sub Mike! Great comment, I will be sure to check that road out when I am in that area again! You're right, Utah is an amazing state for riding!
Favorite ride is the month long motorcycle ride all around Colombia that I am currently on. Medellin , Santa Marta, Bogota, and now headed further south.
Dude! Your videos are awesome! What is my favorite destination? Haven't seen it since 1990, but the Cabet Trail in Nova Scotia is a spectacular ride. Also, Cape Spear National Historic Park, south of St Johns Newfoundland. Easternmost point in North America. NF is such an awesome destination! The people are amazing!
Funny this pops up now....in the middle of prepping for my best and longest ride. The idaho BDR both directions. Southbound, then explore NV and the wild horse preserve, the. Ride back up the Idaho BDR. Will see if the same book is there again. Guess this time ill see yours and my note in the book it blue heaven. Getting excited for this epic ride. Should be close to 3000 miles of dirt roads snd about 150 pavement.
Hi Tim, I really enjoy your videos! I am turning 50 yrs old this year and your videos inspire me, plus they are so educational on motorcycling and camping, two of which I haven't done much before. I have a good friend got me into both, but through your videos it has help me plan trips, get great gear for both the bike and camping. Thank you and keep up the great work. Hammer down!!
I like riding to water falls. I also like going through old covered bridges. Boat ramps is another fun destination. I like watching people launch and retrieve their boats.
I'm learning a lot from your videos. They're great! Thank you. Packing cubes... I will do my first camping tour on an R1200GSA in three weeks and I hope it goes smoothly. I live in Switzerland and will will be traveling in Eastern Europe and everything I've learned on your channel applies. Thanks for your work.
Thank you Tom for your comment I really appreciate it, your planned trip sounds amazing have fun travel safe and love to here how its going. Enjoy the ride!
Great tips and info. Just getting ready to ride to Sturgis with my buddy. Riding from Vancouver, BC. Will definitely take the scenic route and take in some National Parks along the way. Cheers Vic D
Regarding city routes... it's too easy and sometimes nice and affordable to just rent a car and visit a city. I got no problems in a rental visiting cities but the way folks drive today, I prefer to cut down on the risks and stick to scenic state highways for the bike.
very nice video! I too love the Michelin maps and follow the green roads. Lately I am using myrouteapp for designing my routes for the satnav, and it also has a Michelin map overlay! now its so easy to plan nice itenaries. Myrouteapp is a webbased planner, and also has an app for phone or tablet.
That's a great road! I have always tried to avoid the Dragon on weekends when I am out that way, the Cherohala is definitely more relaxing and easier to enjoy the scenery though! Thanks!
The dragon was my 1st out of state destination. Weekend traffic was too much! I feel in love with Cherohala on our way home the long sweeping curves and cool air was awesome!
Great tips and perspectives on planning a road trip. The tip on using National Parks is something i will use. I have had excellent luck using Butler Maps, designed for motorcyclists
Thanks for the comment. I thought of Butler after I had made the video, I do use those too once in a while. They are great, maybe I will do a follow up video that includes that. Glad you liked my video, thanks again!
Beartooth Pass is awesome, love those high twisty roads, Evan's Pass is worth checking out too if you like Beartooth. Haven't spent to much time in NW Arkansas, I will have to add that to my list. Thanks for the comment!
There's a small town on the western peninsula of the Parc Naturel Régional d'Armorique (far west of Brittany) in France, called Crozon. We went there 2 years ago. As always, it's about the ride, not so much the destination, but that being said, Crozon is a lovely little town with really nice restaurants/bars/cafes (we were lucky enough to be staying next door to the patisserie - I mean, come on!). However, the park itself is just beautiful. Any road west will do, as long as you're going through it, but we took the D42 for the wiggly route. My head was on a permanent swivel for the vistas. Sublime. It's only the favourite SO FAR, mind... ;-)
Tim Don't konw if you ever rode to the Canadian eastern provinces, lots of scenic roads many to mantion, but one of my favorites It's The Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island, hope one day you can make it up there to ride it you won't be disappointed.
Corsica was my best tour, down through the French Alps and sailed from Nice over to Corsica. Then back up through Pisa in Italy, Austria and Germany on our way back to the UK.
My best trip on motorcycle was taking US 50 from Cincinnati, Oh to Pacifica, CA. Going through the Rockies on US-50 was spectacular. Of course the PCH was great too.
I really use Google Maps "StreetView" quite a bit when planning a trip, especially when going to a new area. It is an excellent way to "Preview" a route / roads and familiarize yourself and make a mental picture of what to look for. Something else that is a bit time and labour intensive but works really well is make a chart with distances and timings between each junction or turn you need to make. Then just hit the reset button on your trip odometer at each junction. Keep it visible in your tank bag and works like a charm. Used that last summer for a trip all through the New England Area and didn't make a wrong turn or get lost once.
Have you ever done a video on packing and planning with two up? And any tips to go along with it. Thanks Tim, been watching your videos for a while now and really enjoy everything you do!
These are fantastic YT vids!! Thank you for taking the time, effort and passion to keep them informative, stylish and a pleasure to watch. I'm a total noob but want to gain enough experience to do Ft Kent to Vancouver. Hopefully, they will open the border for me to do that by '23.
I live in NC and have ridden a lot of places in this country. But still one of my favorite rides is the Blue Ridge Parkway! I really liked Yellowstone and the chief Joseph Hwy and Beartooth pass!
My favorite road(s); SE Ohio... Hocking hills area and 555. Why? Close to me..... And they are amazing.. I've been to the tail... Ohio 555 is a different kind of cool, and rather long.
Great video and I agree leading up to the trip is as fun as the trip. I love the planning so much I ad back up plans to the trip with keeping in mind to allow for spontaneous routes
mine might be the Banff to Jasper, the Icefields Parkway through the Canadian Rockies...oops, but that isn't in the United States, lol - but I have always loved everywhere I road in Montana - and your advice of following a river, use that in Montana...oh my...
I am on the edge of my seat to get up to Banff and Jasper on my bike! That is high on my to do list. Montana is spectacular, and yea those rivers are astounding there!! Maybe when I get up there we can plan a ride! Thanks for the comment!!
my favorite destination has to be Norway. it really blew my mind with the most stunning scenery. i done the ride from the uk not long after getting my GS1200
Took a cross country ride last summer (July 2020) from California to New England. Took four months and logged 7800 miles. Utah national parks were far and away the most surprising. Unfortunately, covid shut down a lot of the big parks so I didn't get to see the bigger ones. No Yosemite, Yellowstone, glacier, grand canyon, etc. Planning on continuing the trip south to Florida in 6 weeks. Looking forward to the smokies, Tennessee, etc. Then back to Cali for the photo up to PNW. Looking forward to it all
Hey Tim, I’m new to your channel, but soaking up your wisdom and experience as I begin planning a GS adventure. My local go to is heading south on the Big Sur Coast. Hoping to retire at the end of the coming academic year and ship the bike to Europe. If you know anything about that process, I’d love to hear about it. My dream is 2-3 months on back roads through as much of Europe as I can manage on a solo trip. Thanks for mentoring me, and so many others with your videos.
Hey Tim ! I been watching for quite some times all your videos, thank you sooooooo much for all the effort and info that you give to us. Specially me ! Becouse you inspired me and give me the courage to do what im about to do. Quit my job and travel on my bike ( F650GS Dakar 2003 ). Wanted to go ride arround USA, specially Utha, G.Canyon and all that area ! Unfortunately, they didnt give me a US visa .... ( wanted to go to Alaska as well ). So now, im heading south, to Ushuaia. Im in Baja California Sur now, and i have to say, this place is just incredible !! Im sure you would love it, just sooo much empty and beautyfull places all over !! You should come over here, i know you are going to like it !! Specially for camping. My question to you is, why you never ride outside US ? And agein, thank you soooo much for your videos ..... you have been part of my preparation to equip myself and motivation !! Thanks and thanks !! My name is Estevan, born in Argentina :)
I look for a lot of the same things you do in rides, water, National Parks and mountains. Really love the Avenue of the Giants and the Oregon coastline. I also love Hwy 93 north to Kalispell and the Going to the Sun Road. Then there are the roads in the Colorado Rockies. Yea, I can’t pick a favorite.
I know that's a real tough question, all of those are great spots though! Going to the Sun Road was pretty spectacular and PNW is all great too! I got to spend about a week in the Rockies this past summer, it was really impressive scenery, perfect for motorcycles! Thanks for the comment!
Tim, i love your videos. They are very helpful. I am hoping to do a lot of motorcycle traveling in a year or so. Meanwhile i am getting as ready and prepared as much as possible. Keep em coming Tim, and thank you very much. Randy Segar
Hi Tim, ive just found you and subscribed. Love your channel and I couldn’t believe it when you recommended the adventure travel book....this is written by a friend of mine, a very well traveled and bright man...Robert Wicks..ill send him your vid. I have a lot of viewing to do, kind regards Beans.
Got a euro trip planned....lol Furka pass, Stelvio is a gimme and Romania has this insane thing called the Transfăgărășean Highway. Thats my next trip next spring!
Just catching up on your channel. Enjoying the variation of the posts. My all time favorite ride, Hartford, CT to to the Cabot Trail Nova Scotia Canada, all via back roads across MA, NH, ME, NB and NS.
My favorite motorcycle destination will be: from Belgium (antwerp) to red square moscow. why ??? Just an idea I had as a kid. And you have to make your dreams come true. your video is my first exploration to plan this route. Thanks and wishe me luck :-)
I'm from Alabama so I am a little biased but everyone should attend the Vintage Days event in early October at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, AL (BHM). It is an absolute blast and a 3 day event. Plenty to eat, see and do. Come once and it will be an annual trip. Also, recommend going to COTA (Circuit of the America's) for the Moto GP in Austin, TX. We rode out there from here and just got back. It is an annual for us and a blast even though it appears Mark Marquez is unbeatable on that track. I enjoy your video's. Keep them coming! Roll Tide!
Really enjoying your channel. Thanks! I recognized the "going to theSun road" in GlacierN.P. and the tunnel outside Zion N.P. Been to "the dragon" twice :)
THANK you for the great Variety of tips: the mix of websites, print material and geography (using top maps and skirting the base of mtns etc) - made for a really thoughtful comprehensive approach. Well Done!
Hey Tim, you have put together some outstanding content on your channel! Subscribed! This year you'll have to post up a couple more ride/trip videos to go along with all this great content.
What's your favorite motorcycle destination? Mine is probably Dragon's Tail, but I'd love to hear from you guys! So let me know down below! Thanks for watching!!
Cherohala Skyway beside the Tail but a lot of awesome roads in that area. Cabot Trail Cape Breton, for close to home.

The northern part or Skyline Drive in Virginia is beautiful, and there are easy pull offs for pictures and some excellent camping as well!
I recently made a trip from northwest Indiana to the Tail of the Dragon. My plan was to take 2 lane backroads down there as much as possible. Where I failed was in not allowing extra time, since I had given myself just 3 days to get down there, do the Tail, then get back home in time to go back to work. Ozark National Forest in Northwestern Arkansas is pretty awesome. Scenic hwy called the Pig Trail is a great ride!
Sure is. I keep going back. I ride from Minnesota.
Well said Tim, it’s not about the destination, it’s all about the journey in life
Favorite destination: Pictured Rocks national lakeshore, Munising, Michigan.
Dragons tail is up there on my list, needles highway iorn mountain road in custer state park are always fun, pikes peak or anywhere in CO, bear tooth pass in wy is spectacular. going to Arkansas in a little over a month to the ozarks heard nothing but good riding there
The Upper Pennisula of Michigan is a long time favorite. Recently Tennessee has become a favored destination.
Thank you Jeffery for your comment two beautiful states I love too. Safe Travels!!
My retirement will be filled with trips going to meet up with old army buddies.
for sure, planning every step of the way is not letting the adventure "happen"...but I also like to watch and plan and get psyched for the trip by watching videos like this! thanks!
Vermont, every time. I live in MA and I cannot get enough of exploring VT. So many cool places to ride.
I can't stay away from Southern Utah, Escalante, and Zion.
If you haven't ridden the Moki Dugway, that is a short, but intense thrill.
I did the White Rim Road in April, great ride.
You're right. Rt 66 for the nostalgic way to get there.
Love these videos. Nice diverse channel that doesn’t just review bikes like a lot others. I find your information far more relevant to me than yet another review. Great work!
Thank you so much for your comment Monty, I really do appreciate it.
I looked at your video from beginning to end, and I don’t even live in America. Next trip for me : french Alps.
Highway 1 San Francisco to Central Oregon is my favorite so far
Happy trails!
.
Tim, always find your videos interesting, informative and fun to watch. Thank you.
Bella Coola, BC the road there is amazing and you can ferry back down to Vancover Island and the ride down thru the Chuckanut drive to Seattle.
Chief Joseph highway is one of my favorites
I love riding the Black Hills. I'm just across the state and always look forward to going back every year.
Cheers
Vic D
Thank you Vic for your comment, enjoy the ride it sounds like a really good one. Safe Travels and enjoy Sturgis!
Hey N.C. 9 from Lake Lure to the Blue Ridge Parkway, then south to NC 215 to US 64, then south on US 276 to Caesar’s Head, and SC 11.
Natchez Parkway, beautiful ride!
Thank you Johnny for your comment , I loved that ride too, just beautiful.
I thought it was dull. Too straight. But, when in Tupelo, Mississippi, stop by Elvis’s Home...childhood home.
Thank you Rob for your comment and suggestion I really appreciate it.
Do they give you a tank route option
Cherohala Skyway. WAY too many cops and bad riders on the Dragon. Great views and a good road on the Cherohala!
Going to the Sun is amazing.... then on the west side take the backroad out into the flathead valley and take the north fork down to Columbia Falls
Beartooth Pass is pretty great. Also, NW Arkansas is a hidden gem.
Beartooth Pass is awesome, love those high twisty roads, Evan's Pass is worth checking out too if you like Beartooth. Haven't spent to much time in NW Arkansas, I will have to add that to my list. Thanks for the comment!
yes, I rode through Arkansas and was blown away...in part because I had no idea of how amazing it was...people also wonderful there.
I just spent a few days riding in AR. Even though it was cold (I WOULD pick that week), it was amazing. Will definitely go back!
NW Arkansas is beautiful. Everyone should ride the pig trail.
NW Arkansas around Harrison is absolutely gorgeous on a motorcycle!
Sublime.
It's only the favourite SO FAR, mind... ;-)
Thanks for the tips on the books, but YOU were my inspiration.
You ROCK!!! Thanks for sharing all of this man, much respect for your wisdom. I enjoy my rides more because of you!
Thank you! I really appreciate that. Ride safe my friend!!
Excellent tips!..I travel highway 1 as often as possible and the sierras...
Thank you for your comment I really appreciate it! It is a beautiful ride!
Great idea thank you for your comment!
Another great video! By far, my favorite motorcycle travel site. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
10.30 - > Seattle. Beautiful Pacific Northwest. And the ferry from Orcas or Bainbridge Island! Love this place!
Have you ever done a video on packing and planning with two up? And any tips to go along with it. Thanks Tim, been watching your videos for a while now and really enjoy everything you do!
I will add it to the list, haven’t done that yet.
Great video! Love the ferry idea. Great references to National Geographic books, thanks!
Going to the sun road in MT. Just a cool place to ride.
Great tips! Thanks for sharing
I live in NC and have ridden a lot of places in this country. But still one of my favorite rides is the Blue Ridge Parkway! I really liked Yellowstone and the chief Joseph Hwy and Beartooth pass!
Helen, GA is a great destination. And Barbers Motorcycle museum in Leeds, AL. Just NE of Birmingham Al is also a great destination
My favorite road(s); SE Ohio... Hocking hills area and 555. Why? Close to me..... And they are amazing.. I've been to the tail... Ohio 555 is a different kind of cool, and rather long.
Lots of good roads in central and southern Ohio.
Have you stayed at the pumpkin camp ground at the Tail of the Dragon? Those people that own it are great. It's specifically for motorcycle riders.
Hi Johnny thank you for your comment, I haven't stayed there but did ride the Tail of the Dragon it sounds like a really cool campground.
My favourite ride destination would have to be the great Ocean Rd in Victoria Australia can't wait.
I really loved the ride thru Rocky Mt national park as well as Evans Pass and Pikes Peak in Colorado it was a blast!!!!
Bob Oliver both great roads, good pick! Colorado is a great state for riding 👍 THANKS for the comment Bob!
One of the main rides I have on my bucket list is going from Seattle Washington to Anchorage Alaska. One day!
I have done both...Montana my favourite state...just follow the river!
my favorite destination has to be Norway. it really blew my mind with the most stunning scenery. i done the ride from the uk not long after getting my GS1200
Looking forward to it all
That's only an average of 60 miles a day what were you doing the other 22 hrs everyday?
Hey Tim,
I’m new to your channel, but soaking up your wisdom and experience as I begin planning a GS adventure.
I have the same bike but the forks now seem very bouncy. Have you had a similar problem and if so how did you gic it?
Thanks
Safe travels!
Btw, keep the great videos coming.
I know that's a real tough question, all of those are great spots though! Going to the Sun Road was pretty spectacular and PNW is all great too! I got to spend about a week in the Rockies this past summer, it was really impressive scenery, perfect for motorcycles! Thanks for the comment!
And thank you, the words of encouragement mean a lot to me. I'm glad people are getting something out of my videos!
Cherohala Skyway and going to the Sun road in Glacier Park. It doesn't get any better that that.
My favorite motorcycle destination so far has been the area where the Dragon's Tail is, even more so whatever will keep me on the road the longest.
Got a euro trip planned....lol Furka pass, Stelvio is a gimme and Romania has this insane thing called the Transfăgărășean Highway. Thats my next trip next spring!
The road that goes from Chiang Mai following the border to Myanmar, but staying on the Thai side. Amazing views and vertiginous mountains.
Nice route but the Ha Giang Loop in Vietnam is 10x better.
Fabulous amount of spot on useful information!
Just catching up on your channel. Enjoying the variation of the posts.
My all time favorite ride, Hartford, CT to to the Cabot Trail Nova Scotia Canada, all via back roads across MA, NH, ME, NB and NS.
Thanks! I'll have to check that out someday, I want to get up to Nova Scotia at some point so that could be a good route to get there.
Roll Tide!
Thank you very much! I will definitely check that event out, sounds pretty awesome! Ride safe!
Really enjoying your channel. Thanks! I recognized the "going to theSun road" in GlacierN.P. and the tunnel outside Zion N.P. Been to "the dragon" twice :)
One of my favorite motorcycle destinations is Julian, CA via Palomar Mountain.
Julian is awesome, I need to go there soon and get pie!
Awesome tips thanks
Lots of good tips and things like that
THANK you for the great Variety of tips: the mix of websites, print material and geography (using top maps and skirting the base of mtns etc) - made for a really thoughtful comprehensive approach. Well Done!
Thank you very much! I really appreciate that. I'm glad you enjoyed my video!
Tim - thank you! This is awesome. It's going to be so helpful in my planning! Goldmine!
Thanks Jim! Glad you enjoyed this video.
Great video, great ideas and great channel.
Thank you so much I really appreciate the comment !
Hey Tim, you have put together some outstanding content on your channel! Subscribed! This year you'll have to post up a couple more ride/trip videos to go along with all this great content.
Thank you very much! I will definitely try to do more ride videos this year! Glad you are enjoying all my content!
Transfagarasan, Romania; Alice's Restaurant, Skyline Blvd, Woodside CA.; Charyn Canyon, Kazakhstan; Leof. Athinon Souniou. Greece (Near Poseidon's Temple)
Excellent! I will definitely check those out!
