as a ranged player, let me correct some details of your reaction:
01:18 yes the counterattack reduction is the main thing, and that is huge. like, HUGE. That is borderline equivalent of 25% mitigation stats (defense+health). So these 15% is very good!
02:25 the thing about Stephen is the Skill Talent tree. He is the first Engineering commander to bring that to the table. The first skill cycle is the most crucial part of the battle, since normally the enemy will back away, and you really want to throw that, to activate either Rejuvenate (from Margaereth) or Babur's expertise skill (+50 rage per second 3x), and with that you can 'snowball damage'. Stephen brings now the "Feral Nature" skill to the table (10% chance to get 100 rage) BEFORE the first skill cycle, which can accelerate this skill drop in maybe 1 turn (and that is VERY good!) or 2 turns if you got lucky.
... so normally, if you have Horn of fury, Gaja/Babur throws their skill in around 11/12 turns, and Margareth too. After the first skill drop, their buffs drops the skill cycle by 3/4 turns respectively (9 or 8 turns, 7 if lucky, 6 if you're in the Story "Siege of Orleans" borrowing Gengis Khan 2nd skill to one of your towers).
Stephen will have the potential of reducing the FIRST skill cycle from 11/12 turns to 9/10 turns!! This is absolutely huge!
The only cost of that, of course, if to trade some points from the Engineering talent tree to push the Skill tree
I predict that he, paired with Cordoba, will be slightly weaker, at the cost of being much MUCH more resistant than Margareth, with a much more frequent healing. For me, he will DEFINITELY bench Margareth in many situations (2 towers on field)
    So yes he is fantastic.
    04:37 Babur? horrible?
bro... he is single handedly one of the best investments I ever did. He brings EVERYTHING to the table. He brings everything your towers needs, and can be paired with anyone that your tower will simply be extremely tanky, will deal good damage and he also has the Attack talent tree - which is very good for arrow towers too!
05:00 no, Margareth will be benched if compared to Stephen. The thing is, as a ranged player you want to apply field pressure AT ALL TIMES, and Margareth do not possess the tankiness for that. Yes she buffs gonzalo's AoE by +50%, but in just about 2 minutes you will have yellow health, and add another 8 minutes to that, and you're returning home. So you can go really hard with Margareth+Gonzalo, but for a brief period of time. Stephen will allow us to punch a bit softer (but consider that the skill talent tree by itself provides a total of +26% to skill damage of all types), but will be able to stay on the field for way, waaaay longer.
So for the same reason that Gaja+Gonzalo is the best pairing to send to Altars of Darkness, Stephen+Gonzalo will be good too.
... a realistic way to see everything is "every pairing brings pros/cons to the field, you gotta assess the situation and choose what's best." All engineering commanders are excellent. They are NOT like the traditional Gold Key commanders who simply are a bad investment no matter what, no. All 4 current (6 next week, and 8 (epics) next month) are useful and offer something unique.
from 05:10 until 08:30 he has a point, but he is not covering the whole thing. The most important thing he mentioned is the "inflexibility" part. That is partially true. Yes, there will be times where your murderball will DIVE into deep into enemy territory pushing the enemy ball like crazy, and you cannot go. You simply cannot follow this movement, and it's way too dangerous to even try, because out of any enemy city, right next to you, a LC+Alex can simply show up and WRECK you up, and that is a lesson you learn to never forget.
But the thing is Arrow Towers bring a whole new layer of power to your kingdom - and THIS is a very serious statement. Playing ranged combat brings a total different set of decision making and potential to your role during wars. You are not anymore playing running from enemy whales, and comparing yourself to those big guys of your own kingdom, no. You will be doing your OWN thing, targeting your priorities, focusing on positioning, and hoping to properly rage transfer as much as you can.
If you want to do a strong tower as a FIRST march - that is a bold decision, but it works. Ok? It totally works. Don't listen to people when they say "Oh ranged is good but only as a 6th or 7th march, before that you NEED to have strong meta marches" that is BS. You don't need to wait for 2 years to actually start helping your kingdom and enjoy the game!
08:57 as a 1st march, it will be a hard life, but you will collect early results. As a 2nd march, it is good, since you will have a good melee protection to yourself (by hiding your melee march inside a city near your tower when you want to solo focus on ranged combat). As a 3rd march it is absolutely marvelous! If you have a strong infantry/arch or cava/infantry with good equipment, you can have collect incredible results on the open field. Above a 4th march, it will ALWAYS be good, since I recommend anyone to add this new layer of strategy to their cities.
So to sum it up: engineering as a 1st investment: dangerous but rewarding. You need to really enjoy playing the game and being active. As a 2nd march, try it, you will enjoy. As a 3rd, wonderful. Above that: go for it!!
09:20 totally misleading, I disagree completely. The reality of the game is very punishing to f2p/ low spenders who try to put out 4-5 marches on the field. The hospital bill will get the potential reaching the ROOF very early, and you will learn that VERY soon, trust me (I believe everyone reading this knows that, tbh, because you learn that already in KVK 1). So the real scenario here, is that, you will pull out ONLY your strongest march. or even 2 if you really have good gear and can afford bad trades occasionally. or even 3 if you have 4+ farm accounts, and good gear in all of them. 4/5+ marches, from f2p/low spenders? sorry, this will never happen. Who does this is either tryhard gamers who really study the game (like 12inch, but bro plays the game for YEARS and could build his lineup before fighting with 5 maxed marches on the field) or seriously informal players, who have no idea of the value in saving resources to efficiently using them only with his strongest march, and decides to fight like a madman for 1 hour minutes, heals a full hospital some 2/3 times in this period, gets some mere 10M KP (if playing well) and logs out.
These guys DO NOT help their kingdom, and are typically deadweight cities that have millions of dead troops, 80M power, and less than 500M kp.
In this scenario you REALLY can have 1 meta march or 2, and confidently start investing in your ranged march as a 3rd one.
This is the best timing to do so, as a 3rd or 4th.
10:09 no. Wrong. Getting KP and helping your kingdom enormously is not a niche thing. and all those other BS that people bring up when talking about siege (like being unable to swarm flag/cities or diving into enemy territory) are a narrow view of the whole thing, and typically comes from people who DON'T have siege.
Once again, like in most videos about ranged combat - another person who DOES NOT understand the topic, is trying to teach about it.
But don't get me wrong, I follow 12inch for a long time, and I love his content and the lives as well
    anyway, gg

Thanks for taking the time to comment!
      1. Yep love the damage reduction, I mentioned the second part as interesting and that I loved the reduction
2-4. It's good to hear this about Stephen, again I hear a lot of conflicting views when it comes to Siege marches and see a lot of marches producing solid results. I think it would be wise to remember this related to point as it relates that we may be in different kingdoms.
Where as you may be looking for longevity I may be looking at larger or more dynamic field fights. Having to return home at the cost of more potent trades could be less of an issue for me as it is to you.
Altars are generally not a huge point of contention for me as they are a rather small part of the overall fighting as well, although I see the value there.
      5. Inflexibility is exactly what I meant it to be, when you have changed your role for yourself to your kingdom you are putting yourself in a separate box, which in at times is fine.
A good example of how this is an issue for me is in 1365 you must be online for every pass opening, are monitored based on KP, and are penalized for not moving with markers. You are assuming what helps your kingdom and assuming that they will all be receptive to your idea of the meta. Where some kingdoms will be happy to accommodate your new view of the game, many will not.
      6. You invest in it when you have enough other marches to play the game normally in my opinion. It generally just depends on how competitive of a player you are and how competitive of a kd you are in. I think if you can cover general play then having a kp steroid for your account is awesome.
      7. These guides are made for competitive players, I'm not sure how else to put it. You are expected to have multiple accounts to farm and you are expected to get enough resources to spend through to your speeds. So for the people you describe here, there really is no saving them. I hit F2P T5 in 182 days and the people who get coaching or have watched my other guides understand the context of this as we aspire to be competitive.
      8. Getting KP is not enough in high level imps, how you get that KP is important and anyone seen as too greedy or too self serving will see themselves corrected. There are niches where this is incredibly strong and niches where it isn't, I think it could help to take a step back from your POV and consider others.
Finally I don't consider myself an expert on ranged combat or commanders, I say multiple times that I don't have a single pairing, what I am an expert in is how to grow your account properly and how to acclimate yourself to high level play. No need to insult me!

Range is for players that don’t have farms account and wants to leech kp from those players that TANKS ! The reality is that no way you get into a good/renowned kd with your first 3 marches as range 😢

7:04 "siege will suck as your first march in soc" I am in my first soc, I have t5 inf and siege, inf as my first march ww/lc 5552/5551 almost all legendary, 2nd march is gaja/cordoba 5511/5522 full epic. 80usd spent 352 days acc vip 14. guess what, MY INF SUCKED did 50-80% both in ruins and open field flag wars... my siege did 300-400% and full epic enabling me to get rewards in individual quests. what a waste of rss being f2p and inf. People wanna be slaves in the game doing all farm accs like nerds tf. I only have two farms and still a waste of rss. siege did way better for me. I see no f2p players doing well in my kd and I'm very low spend at 64m power 352 days acc

@@yin138 You will eventually get to that, no problem. Meanwhile, you can navigate, what, 90% of the servers? c'mon you're being highly specific here. Also, the wording "leech" here is totally misused. They are your ALLIES who are there PUNCHING the enemy with you, so you can get a win in KVK.
The true "leech" here are those deadweight cities who have 90M power, less than 150M KP, never talks in the chat, never does nothing, and are still active and push ranks during events
THOSE are leeches! Not active people fighting TOGETHER at your side!!!

I have been playing ranged for a long time and LOVE fighting with them. You can pick out the low health enemy so easily, or plonk it by your flag and ping at the rally to debuff it. And in altar fights they last for AGES. It’s only bad if you get overrun, or your kingdom has too many siege it affects the strength of the murder ball.

I run two engineering marches and four murderball marches once the crystal tech gets unlocked. I rank this pair just below any pair with Gonzalo.

Gajah , cordoba is actually better as a n.1 siege march. Not only does normal damage boost counterattack but also they’re Smite synergy which adds to theyre damage. Also alot of tankiness and healing which is good for siege. Gajah cord is best for A-B seed for longer fights and more dps. Marg Cord is best for C-D for faster dps in short time since marg does faster active
