Moza Aircross 2 vs Moza Air 2.. Do we finally have the perfect gimbal?

- The Moza Aircross 2 is out and has a lot of similarities to the Moza Air 2, and implements a few things I really liked about the DJI Ronin S. The addition of the iFocus M makes it a treat to work with on any number of manual lenses or cameras, and with two ports for focus motor controls, you can keep your hands off the camera and concentrate on the gimbal work. If I had to pick one gimbal today, I would probably be sticking with the Moza Aircross 2 due to the USB charging, better grip, full 360 degrees on every rotational axis, and the axis locks on every axis. Beyond that, the mimic capabilities are fantastic - and the LED lit focusing ring is really fun to look at.

Hi Tommy great review man. QUESTION, can the AirCross2 hold cameras with a cage? Such as Sony a6500, a7iii or GH5...Ive heard they may not fit? Thats the only thing holding me from buying it really. Thanks!
great review. I also tested this gimbal at Samy Camera in Hollywood with the new Panasonic S1H and Sigma 50mm Art Prime Lens. Once we got it balanced it was really fun to operate. The smart phone follow function looks really cool! I didnt get to try that.

Hey - awesome video. I too am having the same issue with not being able to use the arca-Swiss plate with the Ifocus motor.
There was mention about a third party quick release plate used. Is that the initial plate on the camera, then secondly attach that to the manfrotto/ifocus mount, and lastly to the L-bracket?
Any current tri-pod setup is arca-Swiss, so it would be convenient to use an arca-Swiss plate, instead of taking all the brackets off.

Have you been able to control the focus from the app? or are you using the M version with no bluetooth?
I have the Air 2 and the iFocus that moza says can connect to the app but it never worked. their customer service told me this is something that they may add in the future but they sell it like it does work.
Can I control the electronic zoom from the grip using a sony a6500 with an 18 - 105 lens?
I've owned an AirCross 2 for several years now. I've always had trouble with jitter. Tried a few camera / lens combinations, calibrated motors automatically and even tried manually adjusting things and never been able to find settings that eliminate the jitter. This is with the axis all balanced pretty well. I've tried heavy and very light setups with the same results. I typically use it with tilt on locked and Pan and Tilt in follow. Jitter shows up most when I have the gimbal arm straight up and down then tilt it to the left or right and forward a little bit. - or anything in the neighborhood of orientation. These seem like typical movements, not something extreme.
The other annoying thing is that if you flip it so your carrying it with the handle above the camera (for low shots) the follow tilt is reversed. So if you try to tilt the camera to the sky, it looks more at the ground and vice versa. If I power it down and power up with it in that orientation then it is correct. But makes flipping back and forth an issue.
About a month ago I did drop it on a soft carpeted floor and the tilt motor now scrapes through a certain range. Fortunately it is a range that I never go to but I can't find a way to service/repair it. I've looked at other gimbal options and always come back to the AirCross 2 because it does look really good on paper.
I have used the iPhone bluetooth follow mode before.. I put the gimbal on a tripod near a crowd of people and can pan around to get B-Roll shots without it looking too conspicuous (compared to a guy in the corner waiving the thing around). I've also used the timelapse features for that additional movement, both for video and stitched photos. It looks pretty good if you turn the stabilization off on the camera and time the movements with your settings well, otherwise it can look sort of jagged and choppy.

Hey Tommy, which gimbal do you recommend with Canon EOS R6 that has follow focus , iFocus ?
Hi. With Air I can just balance my gimbal while having my 28-75mm zoomed out to around 50mm and then during a shoot, I'm able to just zoom the lens in or out without rebalancing the gimbal. Can Aircross 2 handle a weight the same way? This is a major selling point to me.
Seems like Air 2 wins only in max payload - which is important for bmpcc & sigma 18-35 though
The leather grip on my Air 2 came loose after a few uses and the included batteries failed within a month. The QC from them is terrible and while it works its not been a good experience. They need to get their gear in order before they worry about gimmicks like RGB
I think you have bad luck, I'm working more than a year with the Air2 and it's a very well gimbal. Also the mimic and tracking options works perfect. Maybe you left the batteries in the gimbal when you didn't use it? This will destroy your batteries.

Thanks - the iFocus works great.. but only has issues with certain lenses if used on as a power zoom due to lens stiffness. If you're already using an iFocus you'll be fine.
@@TommyCallaway has the iFocus M worked well for just adjusting the focus manually?... personally I'm not concerned if it can handle the zoom.... thanks
Nikon Z6's focus can be controlled with electronic lenses? It is written in the compitability table, that electronical focus is fine with Z6 + 24-70 F4?
Hi, one question, I know that the moza air 2 works well with the blackmagic 4k with the cage(smallrig) with hd,ssd.. Because is bigger than other Gimbals, the aircroos too? is the same of sizes? Thanks

How did you set up the AIRCROSS2 so that the gimbal motor falls to the left side of the camera? I've tried countless times, but never once.

And when you get your Moza Slypod, check it for wobble. Lots of reports that it can't smoothly glide without wobbling randomly. Seems to be a design issue.

i think it can hold that. i used it with Panasonic S1H and sigma art 50mm no problem.

Jefferson Alves sadly no i don’t think it is strong enough for 70-200 zoom. Sony body is light weight but zoom is long and heavy and i feel too much for the motors to balance ... this is just my opinion, not my real life testing tho. But the S1H and Panasonic Zoom lens is heavy but it is not long like a 70-200 zoom.........
@@AlexDerrick_DP I imagined that. It would be difficult to balance. Is this Aircross 2 better than Crane 2? Can you handle more weight than Crane 2? I currently have an Isteady Gear and I need to improve the equipment. I live in Brazil and Air 2 is very expensive. Aircross is more affordable.
@@jeffersonalves3202 I don't have any experience with Crane 2. I just happened to use Aircross 2 at Samy Camera in Hollywood when I was testing the S1H and my Varicam. In the test we had the S1H and the 24-70 Panasonic Zoom and it worked well. This is best advice I can give :) Hope that helps. How can I power my camera off the moza air 2
Nice review. Speaking of active tracking, has anyone ever figured out how to use this when you’re running solo? How does one get their phone to lock on them when they can’t see or touch the phone’s screen? I’ve seen some folks use a hat, and hold the hat in front of the phone, then put the hat on when they return to the front of the camera, but that’s kind of a kluge.
Just dug out my AirCross 2 after not using it for a while, and see this question still hasn’t been answered. Anybody figure out how to use the active track to track yourself when you can’t “hit your face” on your phone because you’re operating solo?

It’s just a B rated product. The motors are weak, their lifespan is short. I own Moza, Ronin S, original zhiyun crane, and weebil s. The Moza is ok, Ronin is my go to, and the zhiyun feels 80% designed.
Didn't try to mount it on a monopod and make passes from a height. I wonder if it will withstand the horizontal load of the steadicam if you attach it to the monopod, make a run behind the actor and then lagging behind raise him up, like a crane)

I think the sigma 18-35 is generally a tiny bit too front-heavy for a lot of setups using the AirCross 2. It’s “possible” with counterweights perhaps, but you’ll probably be disappointed. I would recommend the Air 2 or Ronin S for the heavier setups.

I don't think, I can't find a user who get it done. Also you can't power the BMPCC because the Aircross has only 7,2V output. But the Air2 works just fine.

I bought the air cross 2 a couple of years ago and generally like it. Probably the only thing I don't like about it is that there is no way to mount a cross bar. The only way to hold it is Samurai style
I played with the Moza Air II (stuck in the Nikon Filmmaker’s kit… probable because they wanted to clear out the inventory of the heavier gimbles) but - honestly - I got smoother shots with my iPhone / 4K that cut into my shoot for the limited BRoll needed - than the time it took to setup the Nikon Z6 and lens on the gimble - so it sounds like this is only niche for LONG shots where you need a Prosumer Camera and lens… agreed?
BTW - the Insta360 blew either away - for gimblimg at a GoPro level!!!

Why you're sad? The Air2 also have the mimic and tracking options. The only advantage of the Aircross I can see is the less weight.
Ahhh, I just ordered the Air 2 for my gh5 yesterday before I watched this. Hopefully it comes quick. Have you got to mess with yours yet?

I’m very happy with the Air2. It can handle larger camera’s thsn the Aircross and you have to balance only ince because of the ‘smart’ quickrelease.
Keen Imagery i Have! I Love It! It takes some getting used to. I had the original Z crane before this so i wasn’t used to all of the bells and whistles but once you find the way you like to hold it its great! I even love the little sounds it makes when i re center it. I won’t need to upgrade for a very long time and that was the point ✔️

Do you find out it the air cross 2 is comparable with a 90d. ? I have the original mozzarella air cross. It does work with the 90 D. But only with the 24mm pancake lens. I want to be able to use my Better lenses. So I’m considering the air cross 2 or the air 2. So confusing!
7:05 I respectfully disagree. This was a real game changer. No other gimbal has this feature, and it is one of the main reasons my videography has been taken to the next level.
