- The hymn 'Hail Queen of Heaven, the Ocean Star' by Fr John Lingard (1771-1851) to the tune STELLA, composed by H.F. Hemy (1818-1888).
This hymn was sung at the Requiem Mass of Sir David Amess MP at Westminster Cathedral on 23 November 2021. May he rest in peace.
I do not own the contents of the video, but merely overly the text for the benefit of the public.
As a Protestant, my local Roman Catholic Church was the first in my Parish to pray for me, and the blesséd repose of my dear Mother's soul, after she passed suddenly on 5 April 2023. Even more obscure is that I live in the 'divided' society of Northern Ireland. Thank you fellow Parishioners, thank you neighbours, thank you FRIENDS ✝️✝️✝️

I first heard this hymn in 1974 when I was given a teaching job at a Catholic elementary school. And I have loved it ever since. A Franciscan Nun and principal at the time who hired me is now aged and infirmed. I learned many Catholic hymns from her. Oh, how I miss those days.

Remember ,there was only One Ark of the Covenant, the Ark of Noah, in which only 8 people survived the great flood. There was no other Ark ,and outside of the Ark, no one was saved, so the same goes with the Roman Catholic Church outside of which no one will be saved.

@@markrichards-major he wrote in defense of the seven sacraments refuting Luther and the heresy of Protestantism. He wanted a divorce was denied it, and created his “ fake” church. Period.

Not all Protestants deny the seven sacraments for a start (viz. Anglo-Catholics. They have no allegiance to the pope (they are Protestant) nor do they recognise him at all but they have 7 sacraments. I said he was “influenced” by the reformation not that he went to the Dutch Reformed Church or Hillsongs. He adopted many reformist ideas including the vernacular bible, reduced authority of the clerical class, suppression of saints’ so-called cults, the laity were given the chalice to drink from, and supremacy of the monarch although I admit that last one might have been self-serving to an extent. His views on the veneration of Mary also shifted somewhat during his reign. Full stop.

Before you read my comment know this: this is the Roman Catholic Westminster cathedral in London. It is not the Abbey.
I respect the Marian doctrines of the Roman church. However as I read the words of this hymn it reinforced some of the differences, with other Christian traditions such as mine. Notably, the perfect and complete sacrifice of Calvary, and the uniqueness of the Incarnation. There is no human soul, no matter how blessed, reigning in heaven. Jesus and Jesus alone is our Advocate and savior, and God alone in the Trinity reigns. To believe otherwise corrupts the uniqueness of the Incarnation. Jesus is both fully human and fully divine, and none other can claim any such power. There are no semi-Gods, nor demi-Gods, and salvation is through the cross and faith.

@@terrysheahan771 Point taken. However, I'd note the channel is not specifically Roman Catholic, and features many hymns written by either Anglicans or Protestants sung in non-RC venues. I'd also note Roman Catholics, particularly of the avowed trad type regularly show up on non-RC sites to harangue, dispute, and generally be obnoxious. But in Christian solidarity if I've offended I'll do what these "trads" never, do, express contrition.
Jesus is the mediator with the Father. Mary is still our great intercessor with Jesus her son. This lowly virgin has been exalted by God to intercede for us in Heaven. Her role can't be understated. She cannot be loved more than Jesus. So we venerate her and cherish because she serves only God and God alone. Her very existence is to give glory to God. No other creature is so high in the heavens. The Queen of Heaven is the title for the goddess, Hera(sister, and wife of Zeus, and mother of Hephaestos, Ares, Eris, and Hebe, who once ruled from Olypmus), not a title for Mary, even the Bible doesn't refer Mary by that title.
