What if you have a client that has never reconciled and has transactions from 2020, but has made payments each month and recorded them. They have cc charges in 2020 recorded but none after that. I am reconciling Feb, 2022 online QB. I have an entry that is dated 4/15/21 on the QB register. It says Split journal entry $868.35 however the difference in the bank is $674.28. I don't know whether to delete the journal entry because it is 10 months old and April, 2021 has already been reconciled. Advice?
Hi, We never recommend deleting a prior transaction in the year where you've already filed taxes. You would want to adjust it in the current year. Hi Candus, how do you reconcile an account that has never been reconciled in QBO, but it should have been. So, basically there is months or even a few years of activity, but it was never reconciled in QBO?
Hi Diana, Yes, we recommend reconciling them and there's different ways to catch up depending on how many years and if you file taxes or not. If you need additional support, please reach out to our team at support@canduskampfer.com so we can point you in the right direction. Have a great day, Samantha, Team Candus
Hi candus, I have client that never been reconciled since 2018 and he start using quickbooks this year 2023. It is possible to link his banks account in QBO and upload manual csv file of previous year 2018- 2021 and do the reconcile? Or I just do the manual entry with those previous year, thanks
Hi Crystal, Yes, that's possible. However, you do want to make sure that if taxes have been filed for previous years that the amounts match those reports. Unless you're planning on sending in amendments. If you were to find mistakes while reconciling, that could throw off the numbers when you fix them. Just something to be aware of. There are a couple of different strategies, including lump sum reconciliation to get it to the current year. We don't have a TH-cam video that covers how to do this, however, we teach this in our QuickBooks Simplified Community. To learn more you can attend our Cleaning up workshop. Are we supposed to review /categorize under the Bank Transactions section first before going to the reconcile section?

What if you have a client that has never reconciled and has transactions from 2020, but has made payments each month and recorded them. They have cc charges in 2020 recorded but none after that. I only have statements from Jan to now to start from. How do I begin reconciling this in QB Desktop Enterprise 2023?

I am reconciling Feb, 2022 online QB. I have an entry that is dated 4/15/21 on the QB register. It says Split journal entry $868.35 however the difference in the bank is $674.28. I don't know whether to delete the journal entry because it is 10 months old and April, 2021 has already been reconciled. Advice?
Hi,
We never recommend deleting a prior transaction in the year where you've already filed taxes. You would want to adjust it in the current year.
If you'd like to learn more about this, check out our QuickBooks Simplified community where we cover how to clean up prior years. You can learn more by attending our Cleaning up workshop: CandusKampfer.com/cleanup

Thank you for the great video, I am taking on a non-profit (so no tax implications). They have never reconciled. QB reconcile function shows a negative beginning balance. Is it possible to reconcile from this point going forward without clearing years of transactions? Thank you?

Hi Candus, how do you reconcile an account that has never been reconciled in QBO, but it should have been. So, basically there is months or even a few years of activity, but it was never reconciled in QBO?
Hi Diana,
Yes, we recommend reconciling them and there's different ways to catch up depending on how many years and if you file taxes or not.
If you need additional support, please reach out to our team at support@canduskampfer.com so we can point you in the right direction.

Hi, I need to reconcile credit card accounts.
Hi candus, I have client that never been reconciled since 2018 and he start using quickbooks this year 2023. It is possible to link his banks account in QBO and upload manual csv file of previous year 2018- 2021 and do the reconcile? Or I just do the manual entry with those previous year, thanks
Hi Crystal,
Yes, that's possible. However, you do want to make sure that if taxes have been filed for previous years that the amounts match those reports. Unless you're planning on sending in amendments. If you were to find mistakes while reconciling, that could throw off the numbers when you fix them. Just something to be aware of.
