We met up for an interview with Onra a couple of months back before his show in Berlin. Onra is a ground-breaking producer who lives in Paris and has released 6 albums since starting to make music in 2006.
His debut album, Chinoiseries came into being after his first trip to Vietnam from which he brought back over 30 Chinese and Vietnamese records from the 60's and 70's. Chinoiseries is a ground-breaking album compiled of 32 tracks that blend Hip-Hop and Vietnamese Pop Music influences.
Onra released Chinoiseries Part II in 2011 which picks up where Part I left of. Regardless of the many genres Onra has dabbled with since, his approach to his production remains that of a Hip Hop producer. Sampling records with an MPC.

I've always wanted someone to mix Chinese music with hip/hop and Onra was like the only one to actually do it

Why is Onra so elusive?? Like I can't find an interview of him anywhere. I am a big fan of the Chinoiseries
his English is really good for a person who's first language wasn't English
Thank You for inspiring me to keep making beats!
great interview!
you are amazing your back round has every thing to do with your unique style regardless of your parents absence , indeed your style no one can have, its east meet west fusion. one of a kind you are .specially your asian blend melodies .
Id love to hear more about his process his music is so boomy and full and compressed and I wonder where he gets his drum samples and how he processes stuff on the MPC.

Onra is a Great.
Onra took chinese music to a different level, differennt to what wutang did
What was the song at 9:27?
nice interview. onra explains why all these "modern" way of "producing hiphop" ist NOT what hiphop is about. hiphop is about sampling and bringen different samples together like a collage. hiphop got nothing to do with playing nice music perfectly with "real instruments" and a live band or "producing" with midi instruments and a keyboard. that collecting different samples is, what makes hiphop to hiphop. also in graffiti, MCing and breakdancing...... and so on. (thats my definition and opinion)
song at 3:45?
it's called "come closer" off the 1.0.8 album
what was that song called towards the middle of the video
Come closer
real
song at 8:45?
