paddington never fails to take my breath away ,loved it as a train enthusiast over 50 years ago and still do
My Paddington Bear is my best friend ❤❤❤❤
Snap and there would have been hydraulics everywhere
@@vernongoodey5096 - No, the Class 180 Adelante DHMU's were withdrawn from the Paddington to Hereford route (to which they were ideally suited) several years ago!
London - Swansea was a monthly journey for me when I was at uni in Swansea from
2015-19. When I started, it was HSTs, by the time I finished, it was the IETs. God I miss it.
Loving the Seventh Doctor umbrella! Good video as well, though not a journey I've managed myself yet, so it was nice to see it this way!
Thanks!
A great video. Did you know that the first class lounge at Paddington Station was once the Royal Suite and was frequented by the likes of Queen Victoria when her Royal duties needed the train. Its very nice in there but a bit small and probably gets quite busy at times. I have only used the class 800's once, I wasn't very impressed, the seats were not very comfortable and it was noisy under Diesel power. I loved the HST's , bring them back any day 😊
I went in the lounge once but that section of it was closed off unfortunately
Very nice little camera great picture quality G i still can't get used to Cardiff central with wires last time I went there they didn't exist. Very nice journey to Swansea last time I travelled there it was class 50's and hst's the interior of the 800 is very similar to the lner 800 just different colours
Haha thanks Stuart!
Once again a happy, cheery video that entertains - what I like is the fact that your videos have a start , middle and end - well done !
Like a classic literacy lesson 😂
Great video G! it's a nice journey along the Great Western Main Line but remember the nightmare you had to get to Cardiff when you were on a diverted CrossCountry Trains via Bristol Parkway but sure you haven't rode on a IET before.
Haha ye I remember them diverted trains, thanks Cyber!
I rode the class 800 from Paddington to Swansea in October, stayed overnight in a Premier Inn on the waterfront before riding the heart of Wales the following day to Shrewsbury. Loved it!
I can't understand why she didn't use her Standard Class travel ticket to find a seat in the Premium Dining Restaurant Car, pay GBP 40 for a three-course, silver-service meal with wine, and get a free upgrade to First Class during the long journey from London/Lundain in England to Swansea/Abertawe in Wales!
Fantastic journey very relaxing and flowing water to finish whot more could u want from a G Vblog wonderful thank u 👍🙂
.Brilliant video G, the GWR IET's are quite nice and I too certainly don't find the seats bad at all. I've still not been to Swansea itself or ventured very much west of Cardiff yet.
Thank you as always for a great video.
Fantastic vlog as always and will you be trying out the Elizabeth Line bear bear in mind the stock has no toilets on board & glad that there was flowing water for you at both locations
The area around Paddington looked very smart - thanks for a great video G!
Great video, as always !
I can't understand why she didn't you use her Standard Class travel ticket to find a seat in the Premium Dining Restaurant Car, pay GBP 40 for a three-course, silver-service meal with wine, and get a free upgrade to First Class during the long journey from London/Lundain in England to Swansea/Abertawe in Wales!
Loving the new camera G!! Amazing video along a lovely line of track!!!@
Nice Journey...... I need to explore around Paddington.
Thats a massive washroom 😯
i really enjoyed watching this & its amazing to see you travel with GWR my local TOC & i get to ride the IETs quite a lot when i go to Oxford Swindon & the West ect & they are amazing trains & they are really quick when in electric mode awesome vlog
That took me a while to realise you weren't carrying around a giant question mark there ! 😅😅
Haha!
Great vlog and love the channel so far @glovestrains
Looks like you arrived just in time for Swansea's mental annual Christmas parade! It gets ridiculously busy around that time, particularly around the station! I often spare a thought for all the people that live along the parade route on that night, especially the massive student blocks by the station!
So the canal area is called Paddington Basin and is very nice to walk along in the summer when its warm.
Another great video, I see the GWR class 800s a lot as I’m from Swansea so I see many of the sprinters, the 197s and the 800s and when I’m trainspotting I always see the 800s
Class 43 HST will always be my favourite but these IET Trains are growing on me now great video really like watching your Train rides
Such a gorgeous journey!!! I could feel the sea breeze coming through the darkness. 😎
no you couldnt mate thats just silly
Great stuff as ever. Thank you!
Yeah I remember doing a trip, this time last year I think, very early from Paddington to Cardiff as well and it really did breeze by, not much hassle, not much fuss, even managed to get a couple hours sleep on it which was a bonus
Nice one!
Great video 👍. Take care of yourself.
Your videos are fab!!!!!
Brilliant video, Paddington looked great well done 👍👍 ✅✅
Thanks!!
Great blog G. Interesting to see some great sights near Paddington Station. Paddington Bear say hello too. Safe travels always
Haha thanks Lord Grumpy!
I absolutely love the umbrella!!!
Not sure what the TH-cam algorithm is up to, but I'm planning a trip to Cardiff, from Paddington, in September,so it was cool to see the arrival into Cardiff Central.
Great video, G. I’ve still not been on one of the class 800 series yet - they look good to me :) Your new camera looks great!
Love the funky umbrella
I love your channel G. Next time you're on this train, get on 1 that stops at Didcot Parkway & visit the train museum. X
Thanks!
Nèw train with rock hard seats so uncomfortable but great video.
And a Pullman Dining Restaurant Car available to Standard Class ticket holders subject to space being available, which it (almost) always is?
Thanks for the video G, Those 800s look awesome to travel on, Paddington Station look so new to when I last visited for the Nightrain,Cornish Rivera in 1984. Great to see Swansea looking grand!!😎🚆🚆🚆🚆🇬🇧💙
Wowee! Thanks 😀
Been to both Paddington and lot and it is a great place to visit and have used trains to go to the Westcountry during the day. Want to do the night one if I can one day. Have been to visit Swansea once when I stayed in the Cardiff.
Great video G
Amazingly good video!!
Thanks for the video that brings back fond memories of when I did a semester exchange at Cardiff University! Riding trains in the UK (esp. along the GWR Main Line) reinvigorated my childhood interest in rail transit, and now I'm writing a thesis on the next generation of electric train motors!
I believe my room facing a train line also helped...I remember being the only one among my dorm mates to notice when the Class 231 (FLIRT) came into service with TfW!
Another nice video!
Cool! Am off to Swansea in March for Community Rail Awards so this has given me a good insight thank you.😁
Yes this video is well done... And I've discovered an extra trick to get cheap train tickets🎉🎉
Hi G another great vlog, as always it is wonderful to see a knicker hook and Swansea looks very pretty, as for your new camera there is only one name, Swannee. Looking forward to the next one, stay safe.
Haha thanks Beakerz!
well done was good to see the city im from ,with someone doing the train ride to swansea

Im a new subscriber. So bin catching up on your old videos. Love how much U love riding trains.
Thanks!
Nice video. First one I've watched 🙂
A jolly jaunt as usual. Hats off for vlogging in a packed Paddington, I'd be too self conscious! My JDI Pocket 3 was called all sorts of names when getting to grips with the gimbal movement! You seem to have mastered it.
Thanks, this was actually my first day filming with it so glad it turned out alreet 😂
Great vlog G.
You always make me chuckle every time you find the knicker hook😂
Paddington to Swansea is a pretty good journey tbf with loads to look out for en route.
Coming from Cardiff though, i'd be tempted to end my journey there for it being the best station in the UK😊
Hope you are well.
Thanks! And yes I was tempted to get off at Cardiff 😂
My Cousin once lived in Penarth, so when she got married in 1994 I stayed there for a few days and got to see quite a lot of Cardiff. She actually had the Wedding Reception in the Cardiff Marriott Hotel that had a replica Steam Loco out front!
Love Cardiff, me!
Nice video although a few trains per day heading to Swansea like the 13:46 one are actually extended to Carmarthen. Most trains heading to Swansea does actually terminate there before going back to Paddington.
Gotta say the IET's are getting everywhere now! Even from TPE, LNER, and soon Avanti West Coast! Dominating our railways!
Good video, G!
shame the seats, especially in standard class are crap
@@lukasweidinger6839 Even though the seats aren't the best, I personally still like the interior of the IET. This is from someone who rides the LNER Azuma quite frequently.
Saw something about testing for EM ones in Darlington (810s?)
@@ReecesTrains having seats in standard class without even a slight recline (especially considering prices for train tickets in the UK) is completely unacceptable. Seats on regional service trains in Germany are better...this being said I like the exterior design of the IET´s
@@lukasweidinger6839 Many SWs have no recline even in first .
Nice camera, cool video.
Super.
Cheers!
Looks like you started from Little Venice and walked through Paddington Basin to the station. We used to LOVE that neighborhood, but sadly haven't been in a while.
Never been to Swansea myself.
Considering how much hate the IETs - especially the GWR ones - get, it's fairly surprising to see a review of them that actually praises them instead of trying to bash them into the ground.
Glad you enjoyed the ride as I used to work on the brake systems of these Hitachi trains. and you found the seats ok I think the people who find them uncomfortable need to learn how to sit properly. There’s also a nice old GWR original hotel opposite the Station in Swansea to stay in!
Ah nice!
Great vlog as always G. I don’t mind GWR but I just wish the seats were comfier but like you said at least you got a seat lol. I’ve not intentionally travelled between Cardiff and Bristol Parkway with GWR back in July to Change to get to Birmingham when Crosscountry had no drivers for the normal Cardiff route but I’ve not been west of Cardiff towards Swansea before. If you filmed this in November I recon the crowds in Swansea might have been a Christmas lights switch on event. I enjoyed watching as always.
Could well have been! Thanks Sam!
Great Western Railway should reopen the Portishead Line from Bristol Temple Meads and to add new stations since line closed in the 1960s. I have been on the Class 800 and Class 802 IETs and they are very nice trains.
I did that route but from London to Cardiff, was a great moment for me trying out to think it was done by Brunel himself.
Great video as always G. You, Geoff, Jen and Nick give me inspiration to attempt my own railway vlogs. But when you really think about it. Talking into a camera is kind of a weird thing to do. If I saw someone walking around talking to a camera, I'd be like "ha that's really goofy." 😂 Call it 'Little G' 😂
I already have a friend called lil G! 😂
@@GLovesTrains okay. 'Even Littler G' 😁
I've travelled on quite a few IETs in standard class but in my opinion they are inferior to the old HSTs in terms of ride quality.Seats are too hard , OK maybe for short journeys but certainly not for nearly three hours. The overhead lighting is much too harsh - I don' t know why they have to be so bright. You seem to be easily pleased !
My. Swansea looks tidier than it did last time I was there.....😮😊
Back to London YAY!!!
I quite like the GWR Class 800 and Class 802 since they replaced the Class 43 HST Mk3s. And GWR could have kept the Class 387/3s to be used on Reading-Newbury shuttle but instead they went to Great Northern.
They seem to still have wayyyy to many 387s lol.
Alright GLoves! Your new camera reminds me of Rosey the Robot from The Jetsons.
It looks like came to Swansea on the day of the Christmas parade!!
Here's hoping I'll get a Seatfrog upgrade for the 5 hour excursion down to Penzance in Feb... before the dreaded 14 hour trip up to Aberdeen 😂
Keep up the good work as always G
Haha wot u mean dreaded.. it's exciting! 😂
@@GLovesTrains Depends how the Voyager trip goes
Ive seen these train around and I've seen them on advertised, I think that's their advert anyway, you know the one where the family chase that guy around and they take the train because its faster. Its nice on the inside, quite afew companies have pride variants, I've been on avantis when this year, I know thameslink has one and I've even seen a pride stagecoach bus.
My Paddington Bear is my best friend ❤️❤️❤️
I was impressed of you last video
Do you speak Welsh?
Excellent video to watch when it is snowing where I am
It looks like there is a very interesting railway network around Cardiff and south Wales
Have a pleasant day and at least I am looking forward for new adventures from you
Thanks! I want to speak Welsh 😆
The HSTs and Class 180s Are Better Then IETs 👍
IET >>>> Adelantes easily
@@LuperSoop69in reliability? Slightly. in ride quality and interior noise? absolutely not
@@Trainman10715class 180s are not very reliable
@@maimadha that's what I said, not that IETs are very reliable either, slightly better than the 180s
I wonder if it is easier to get down to Pembroke and Fishguard from Manchester, then just getting the ferry across to Rosslare is easier if going to Waterford, Tipperary, Cork, Limerick & Tralee - and of course, getting that quirky train to Dublin that passes through Wexford town at a snails pace towards Wicklow
i'm lucky to live next to Paddington station and walk there everyday next to the canals
Next time you are in Paddington look for the "Clock with a man in" at Eastbourne Terrace / Praed Street (near Crossrail Entrance)
Hi from Bridgend
Sometimes I find train tickets a bit expensive... But luckily I found a way to save money!
You Should Try Out The New Section Of The Elizabeth Line From London Paddington To Abbey Wood.
I did the london Paddington to Swansea with GWR
once i rode Amtrak Acela from Philadelphia to New Haven. back then it added $100 and saved me 20 minutes.
Extra leg room seat. My choice of coach and seat on my weekly commute London.
Cameron the camera makes his appearance
That Class 800 you went on looked really nice and clean - it's hit and miss on some trains whether you get that or not. Standard class looked plenty comfortable, to be honest. Have you come up with a name for that nifty wee camera yet?!
Yes it will be revealed soon!
The class 800s may not have the best seats, but at least they're well equipped with plenty of plug sockets and knicker hooks 🤣
And more flowing water for you to see both before and after your journey
Like I say I'd take them seats over the floor any day 😂
hi! it's lovely that you do these videos. What about seat reservations? is it possible to book seat reservations?
Them DJI mics work well don't they, i've got some, looked proper windy outside.
7:30 - Perhaps that 'new little baby' could be referred to as 'The 175109 of Cameras'. Incidentally, I saw a man using a very similar-looking camera when I was at the Driving Creek Railway the other week; it's in stark contrast to my Nikon D5600. For reference, the DCR is a unique 15inch gauge railway here in New Zealand.
Is that the 7th Doctor's umbrella????????
Yes 👍
Great video G, first time to Swansea I see. Are the BR Class 800/801/802's better than the Class 43 HST's & Class 91's for no?
Great vid as usual. Cameretta? Etta? N-gauge? Z-gauge even?
G this is an amazing channel keep up the good work!!!. Did you know that the class 800 seats are so hard and uncomfortable for long journeys? They are dog friendly thats about it!!! 387's are a lot worse. As GWR is a long distance conveyor, wouldnt it be nice to have amazingly comfortable seats....just saying.
Great video as usual. I love travelling by train but finding it harder to get cheap tickets. I have another 4 years before I am eligible for a railcard card any tips on how to find cheap tickets. Perhaps you could do a video on it. Also have you seen jenonthemove latest video On the potential of ticket prices rising massively. Thanks in advance
I use advance singles for trips like this
Sylvester McCoy called and wants his umbrella back
Ah, the new 'G-Cam' ...
I went to swansea before
Great video as always. Be careful videoing in coach A on GWR, as its the Quiet coach. I have been told of many times for videoing and Speaking on camara. 😆
Ah okay! I think you're allowed to speak as long as you keep it to a minimum 👍
Did you like Swansea marina? You visited Swansea on Christmas lights parade, that's why it was so busy.
Yes hope I can see it in the light one day
What are your favourite trains currently in service
I want one of those cameras so bad but they dont seem like they ever wanna go down in price
Gynetthe the camera ❤
