I was in Gorlitz and Zittau for 6 weeks (June through mid July). I'd love to go back there to ride this train (which is like a bus on tracks) in the wintertime. Looks like great fun (dressed in the proper warm clothes).
Hi, the area around Gorlitz and Zittau is very pleasant, even in winter. It was a lot of fun, especially for a bunch of Brits not used to seeing snow on a regular basis.
@@Timsvideochannel1 I will be coming back to this during this summer's heat. The snowy landscape will put me in a cooler frame of mind. Thanks for sharing this with us. // On a technical matter: what equipment did you use to create this long continuous documentation? I cannot imagine anything that most of us have.
@@rr7firefly I hope the weather is nice for your return, not too hot. Most of this video was filmed using a GoPro 11 or a Gopro 12 camera and the handheld shots were filmed with a Sony FDR-AX53 Handycam.
Thank you Martin, the real credit goes to the people who had the foresight to make these awesome East German narrow gauge railways an integral part of modern day transport serving tourists and locals alike.
Thanks Tim, I enjoyed all episodes in the trilogy. The cool of the winter snow, especially when viewed on a hot sunny afternoon, was refreshing. The sky was leaden at times…
Enjoyed watching every episode of this long trip. Where I live we seldom see rain, let alone snow. For me it was very thrilling and exciting to see snow everywhere. Thank you for the excellent work you've done for us the watchers. May God give you the strength and energy so you can continue the great work.
Hi, thank you for your kind comment. Snow has become rare in my home country (England), during my childhood years it was an annual occurrence, it has now become a once in every ten years event. As an old timer I still find snow exciting, we even had a snowball fight, bringing back happy childhood memories. I enjoy filming and sharing these videos and I'll keep doing them for as long as I can, God willing, I've still got a few more years left in me.
Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed it. This was filmed in January this year, it's taking a while to edit and upload the videos from this very successful tour, hence the delay. Cheers. Tim.

Hallo, ich freue mich, dass dir das Video gefallen hat. Der Signalmann muss stark sein, um die Schalter zu betätigen, wenn alles mit Schnee bedeckt ist.
Hello Keith, I really enjoyed the snow, it's no longer an annual event down here on the South Coast, I think it has been more than 10 years since the last significant fall in West Sussex. I love these East German narrow gauge railways, they are reasonably priced to travel on and they run 365 days a year to a regular timetable. The next video is also filmed in the snow; you will need an industrial grade hot water bottle to watch it. I'm glad you enjoyed the ride. Cheers. Tim.
It's not a common sight anymore, as many railways around the world where this could be seen have either closed or been converted to standard gauge. I have seen this type of crossing in North Wales, Australia, Switzerland, Colorado and India.
@@Timsvideochannel1 In Australia. The three main railway gauges in Australia are narrow: 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in), standard: 1,435 mm (4 ft 81⁄2 in), and broad: 1,600 mm (5 ft 3 in). A slow progression towards unification to standard gauge has taken place since the 1930s.

Hello Peter, I'm pleased you enjoyed visiting this fascinating railway with me. It was snowing heavily for much of the trip, hence the dark skies.

It's funny to be watching an animated Christmas card in June...
I had to smile when I read your comment 😊.
Just enjoyed your number three, almost a black and white film like those of Canada
I'm glad you enjoyed it and I agree that the snow and grey skies give the impression that it was filmed in black and white.
Hi Tim. Thanks for another cool segment on this narrow gauge. This must be from several months (weeks) looking at the snow. cheers. James.

37:13 Narrow gauge crosses Standard Gauge but the Standard Gauge by comparison, looks so wide it could be mistaken for Broad Gauge.

Came across these episodes purely by chance last week but what country are they filmed in?
Hello Paul, I hope you enjoyed these videos. The railway is located in East Germany close to the Polish/Czech border.
What powers this train?
This is a coal fired steam locomotive.
I'm so used to seeing electric, it suddenly appeared to me, "this is not electric." Thanks for the info.@@Timsvideochannel1
@@svpst1 Hi' I've just watch the video again, this railway is normally steam, but on this occasion it was a diesel locomotive pulling the train.
Thank you., I appreciate your responses.@@Timsvideochannel1

Feel sorry for the bloke who has to get out and wade through the snow to change the points....
It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.
A diesel locomotive.

It was a big surprise that there was so much snow in Germany ? 🥸
