I have an Alaska card and keep forgetting to use it. Thanks for this super helpful fact filled video! This video is so jammed packed with info, you can lose valuable tips if you blink or not pay attention for 1 sec. Feels like listening to a professor revealing the mysteries of the universe (or mysteries of credit card benefits) in 10 min, talking at mach speed. VERY well done. You literally regurgitated all the important benefits and disadvantages from all the big player credit cards and compared them to each other. Wow. I had to listen to it multiples that get all the facts correct.
Player 2 and I got both versions of the Alaska card this year. Definitely an underrated card in the card landscape. Paired with Bonvoy Amex Business for gas/dinning, you can work towards getting those high end flights with Alaska miles.
I'm a huge fan of the Alaska card. I applied right after graduating from college with no hx with BoA and got approved for 10k limit, which was my highest at the time, so it did amazing things for my credit. I also take full advantage of the companion pass. I did a multi-city trip earlier this year to 3 cities (LAX->Seattle->Maui->Portland->LAX) and saved over $900 on the 2nd ticket. I also used a pass once on a last minute trip to NYC (DEC 28, 2017) and saved $600 on my buddy's ticket. I think it's a great sock drawer card if you fly once/twice a year AND live on the west coast. It's also nice only paying 1/2 price for their lounge with the card... Important notes: I applied while booking a flight. I also got a survey last week about possible changes to the way points are earned, so the card might be changing...
I think this card actually may be interested for people on the East Coast as well. Alaska starting to offer at flights from Newark liberty Airport that are pretty interesting. Will look to apply for this car and eventually if and when they have a high sign up bonus.
Great timing on this vid! Im playing the mid game right now & this was really useful since im doing my planning. Maybe you can do a part 2 for cash back cards? If theres any interest in that topic.
I think with Barclays I'm might do the Hawaiian airline card for the 60k bonus. Going to Hawaii in April of 2020 and will be visiting multiple islands so I feel it's a good card in the short term. First year is no AF after its 95 but I dont mind paying that for an extra year just to not immediately cancel it. The Alaska Card is right up there on my wish list as well!
If you're on the west coast, I'd also highly recommend the Alaska card, free companion pass if you pay, or 15k miles each way per ticket. I used my companion pass in May to do a multi-city trip to Seattle, Hawaii, Portland and back home to L.A. and saved over $900.
I was denied for the Alaska card despite having 0 cards with them in the past 24 months and having the highest relationship status with them. When I went in to the bank and asked them why as the reason on the denial was "Type of Accounts with B of A" they said the underwriting for their credit cards is completely separate from branch banking (checking, savings, CDs, etc.).
@@cjcab3158 Crazy, I got approved for the Alaska 6 years ago @23 with only a Freedom, Citi Costco, Citi Student, and Target credit cards on my report. Thing to note: I applied while booking a flight and with [clearly] no knowledge of credit card point gaming.
Sunday Afternoon #SebbySquuuuuuuuuad Edit: Barclay Arrival+ World Elite Mastercard has STAYED in my wallet for the random travel expenses for 5 years now!
Great video as always Sebastian. I'm at 3/24 right now, I'll try my luck with business credit cards first before I move away from the Chase system. I'm taking it slow and waiting for the best offer for most cards. I'll try the Chase Ink Preferred first and then the CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage for the Free checked bag :)
Hi ask sebby, let's say I'm done with Chase all the cards I can get because of the 5/24 rule, how long I have to wait before I apply for the capital one venture card since you said capital one is sensitive about inquiry's. Before I move on to American Express??
Sebby I believe You can’t be denied a credit card based on age I believe it would violate federal law Other factors such as income and credit utilization may play a part in older applicants
So you down grade on your anniversary? How do you down grade? Is it done online, in writing, on the phone? And do you do it during the 12th month or the 13th?
I need to find out how to downgrade the Aviator Red without cancelling it. My 12 months is up. The Citi Aadvantage and Barclay Aviator read is an easy ~120k miles in less than 3 months for almost anyone. When you downgrade the citi you can turn into double cash or AA miles up no fee cards.
@@bonilla1240 just called and did the downgrade. Not sure what the card I got was called (maybe aviator, no red), but it has no fees. And only gets 1 mile per dollar for AA and 1 mile per two dollars on everything else, w/ foreign transaction fees. So actually worse than the Citi mileup card. But no fee so no complaints. They also offered to waive fee and keep old card, but I decided not to put it off. New card can rip in a drawer now.
Hmmm, now I’m confused about my next card. Will finish my min. spend on CIU this month, done with Chase and planned to get AMEX Platinum early Oct., as I am targeted for 100K. Was thinking about CapOne Venture and/or Citi Premier after that. (credit score 790s). Should I wait on AMEX Plat? If u r targeted now, should that not change in a few months, if u haven’t added a different AMEX card? Thanks Sebby!,,,,,,,,
Thanks Sebby. Still working on my first chase cards but was wondering what the next step is. Are there restrictions that banks impose on mortgage payments using Plastic? E.g. we can't use visa but can use mastercard, does that include all MC including Chase MC's?
I have a Capital One Quicksilver and Chase freedom unlimited card and in March I would have had both for over 2 years so I'm good on the 5/24 rule. This upcoming year I plan on taking at least 2 domestic flights and maybe one international flight. I'm trying to decide which cards to go for first to maximize trips next year and I'm assuming the Sapphire reserve or preferred is the first choice and maybe the Chase Freedom to Max those points. I'm not worried about Amex because I can always get that. What say you Sebby? Commenters?
I'm new to the travel card game, and I'm very interested in learning this process. I pretty much travel every month, and I need to reward myself for doing so. What would you recommend as a good "starter" travel card. I'm looking for a card that I can use for any airline, and any hotel. Thanks!!
I product changed a Citi thank you rewards card to Citi prestige without earning the signup bonus and recently product changed to a Citi dividend card. If I apply for the Premier card, will I get a bonus?
Depends on your needs really. No hard / fast rules here. If you're starting as a consultant out of SFO flying UA, picking it up w/o 100k probably still makes sense.
While the welcome bonuses are great on these "mid game" cards, these seem tough to redeem relative to other programs one might be committed to. There is an opportunity cost of spending outside the programs you normally would receive points otherwise. I'm interested to hear how you would redeem these welcome bonuses from the Barclay, Citi, Capital One, and Bank of America cards. While a lot of these have great sign up bonuses, they're often not enough for many useful redemptions unless one can pool the points from another source. Perhaps I'm too focused on redemptions for international flights in premium cabins? For example, what good is 80% of a one-way business class ticket? Is the optimal strategy here to also spend past the minimum spend threshold to "top off" the points balance? I wonder if it is better off to simply stick with a few points currencies one values and can practically redeem with.
For premium cabins... - Barclays AA + Citi AA = Etihad (example covered in the video) - Citi Premier + CO Venture has a LOT of transfer partners - AS would require 2 cards or Bonvoy transfer but cheapest CX F opportunity
Hey Sebby! Chase said I am at my total limit with them to extend me credit. I moved 10k credit from IHG Grandfathered card to get approved for Hyatt card and am at 5/24 now. Suggestions?
Waller's Wallet, Love the channel. How often do you find yourself using the mobile pay function? I am considering applying for the Altitude Reserve but I find most places have issue with Mobile Pay or simply dont accept it.
@@Alvin_1914 thanks Alvin! I use it all the time. I have a Samsung phone. All Samsung Pay counts as mobile wallet payment. So I'm earning 3x everywhere. I've seen more places taking NFC payments as well. It works well for me.
Thanks a bunch for the video guys. I was gathering up Chase cards and AmEx hit me with a high offer on the SPG Luxury, basic Hilton and the Platinum card at the same time. I couldn't make the Platinum work but I got the SPG and Hilton within a couple weeks of each other so my score took a hit. I've also probably locked myself out of Capitol One and some others but maybe something will work out.
I applied for CSP early this year and got denied, I think I put the income wrong. Month or two later, I applied for the freedom unlimited and was accepted instantly. This was about 4 months ago. When can I reapply for the CSP? Can I upgrade the freedom unlimited to CSP?
Assuming you are under 5/24 you typically want to wait 6 months between apps. You can upgrade the Freedom after 1 year but you would not receive the welcome bonus.
You should change your logo (color at least) it kinda looks like an ad so people may scroll by with out looking
An updated version of this video for 2022 would be great Sebby!
