I think stacking promotions on siege units from earlier in the game is crucial. Spitting out a couple of catapults at mathematics and making their levelling a priority can get you a couple of 3-range cannons later on that wreck cities quickly in medieval. Admittedly it's a lot harder to do on quick pace as compared to standard.
One thing i dont understand: How comes there are no Danish arty on the field? It is very unlikely that Filthy outteched a Deity AI. When i try this brawl AI kills me with arty spam on turn 110.
- Smaller map (idk how small but based on how close the capitols are I'd say it's tiny lol) means tech advances slower - He is barely keeping up with tech thanks to a mix of things - Denmark clearly doesn't have artillery tech or the cannon in their capitol would have been upgraded with the money they cheat in.

Now when you think about it it doesn't make much sense how a crossbowman can sink a ship, unless it's shooting dynamite?
It's actually 10 giant crossbowmen They're each basically the same size as a ship, so if anything they should be sinking ships more easily

Why didn't he upgrade the crossbows to gatling guns?
They would lose range and no longer be able to safely pick off targets
