    My name is Dave and I travel with my dog Bella in a 1990 Fleetwood Bounder Class A Motorhome. This is our tour across America. So join us if you’re open to travel, fun, excitement, hiking & exploring. Wish us luck on this adventure! Maybe we’ll see you down the road sometime. Happy trails!
    My channel is about full time RV Living in an older RV while keeping the wheels rolling on a budget. I do the repairs, updates and upgrades myself. I’ve become my own RV Mechanic/Medic! I seek boondocking opportunities every chance I can and power the RV with 500 watts of solar and approximately 500 amp hours of batteries. RV Resorts are just not our style!

    Dave: you might want to consider for the power supply/converter.... adding some sort of standoff to the mounting points to keep about 1/2" spacing on the back of the unit to keep it away from the wall and allow more airflow around the entire unit. I was having cooling issues with my converter and added some longer bolts and 3/4" spacers to keep it away from the wall... problem solved 2 years ago

    I really like your design, I’m wondering though if you run it while it’s raining - will those fans pull water into the compartment?

  • @richarddeich164
    @richarddeich164 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice job. How did you set it up to fuel the generator without removing it? I would have put the fans in front of the genset myself.Pulling air in from the front of the RV box. Would of course need a mud flap to keep the fans from sucking up to much water driving in rainey conditions. Otherwise I really like your install.

    • @DavesRVLife
      @DavesRVLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I added an electric fuel pump, shut-off valve and switch to the fuel supply of the old generator so that I have mini fueling station right there in the left side of the compartment. If I put the fans as you say, I would need to close off the screened door vent to force the heat down and out of the right side.

  • @edavery1013
    @edavery1013 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Dave, why don't you just wire right to the 12volt plug on the generator? Just get the adapter that plugs into the red and black 12volt DC female recepticle. That way you don't waste amps running an inverter for the fans. Also might be a good idea to have a thermostat for fans so they don't run in cold weather.

    • @DavesRVLife
      @DavesRVLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 12v on the generator only provides 8 amps. The fans need 7 amps each.

  • @capt.sparrow34
    @capt.sparrow34 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought the same generator. I turned my outside cooking station into the generator compartment. There was enough room so that I could have the exhaust pointing out. I have a fan that pushes air to the intake. I also installed a 15 gallon gas tank. A small engine fuel pump was necessary as the tank is below the generator. I use the 12 V supply from the generator to run the fuel pump. Works awesome! Was there a reason you didn't use the 12 V supply on the generator for the fans? I'm marine engineered on commercial fishing boats for years. I noticed you start and stop your generator without shutting the breaker off or unplugging it. You should always shut the breaker off or pull the plug before starting and stopping. I see this video as 2 years old how's that generator working out for you? I've only had mine a couple of months. No issues thus far.

      @@DavesRVLife Excellent. Good piece of mind to have one. I will continue to follow your travels. My wife and I lived/raised our children in Delaware. When i retired from Air Force there, we moved to Florida. After 15 years here, i am ready to move back up there. The PA countryside reminds me of Delaware and we can't wait to get back. Thanks again.

    TH-cam stopped sending notifications of all videos as of August 13 around 1:30 PM. News of it is advertised on Twitter. I have not received one single video notification out of many, mostly technical ones, since August 13 at 1:41 PM which was my last one.

    Dave great job on your install but I must tell you those power supplies are not to be trusted I have personally burned up two of them like fire . I will recommend a 110 relay and hook up to the battery to power the fans if you power the relay with the plug on the gen set it will only run the cooling fan when genny is running

    • @DavesRVLife
      @DavesRVLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that if I keep within the power supply's capacity and make sure it cools properly, that it will work just fine. I do not want to involve any other plugs on the generator as I've seen things vibrate lose from them. I also don't want to involve the house batteries in any way. Any time that I am running the generator, I want to be sending amps to the house batteries, not be using from them.

    Six months later are you still a fan of this generator? My generac one just went out and it’s a 1998 so I have been told that they can no longer get parts for it. Thank you!

    Than gunny has a 12 volt output to fire a 12 volt relay problem solved. You still hook up to the house batteries

    • @DavesRVLife
      @DavesRVLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The house batteries are not involved in the fan system, nor do I want them to be. The generator 12v output is 8 amps. The fans require 7 amp each.

    Nice work! Honest question.....With the screen on the door allowing in air, and the holes in the bottom of the compartment for the fans to push air out....are you able to drive in the rain? Won't rain water come in through the screen in the door and the holes for the fans? I honestly didn't know portable generators like that were allowed to get wet. Again, I'm being very sincere, not being an internet troll jerk. I'm needing a generator solution for my fifth wheel and do not want to spend the money for the Onan 5500 if I can keep from it. Thank you for taking time to reply.

    Dave, the generator has a 12 volt plug in supply. Why not connect 12 volt fans to it and not need a power supply. Generator starts and produces 12 volt that powers fans.

    • @DavesRVLife

    I would of just used usb fans and plugged them directly to the generater. No wiring or converting or any of that
